Abstract

Seaweed cultivation is one of the leading commodities in the fishing sector and is still occupied by most coastal communities. One of the types of seaweed that can be cultivated is Eucheuma cottonii. One of the areas in Badung Regency that was once a place for seaweed cultivation is the South Kuta District, Badung Regency, Pandawa Beach, to be exact. The problem most often faced by seaweed cultivators is that seaweed cannot grow properly. The cause of seaweed not being able to grow properly occurs due to predators eating the seaweed thallus. Therefore, a study was conducted to determine the appropriate location on the Pandawa Beach for the cultivation of seaweed Eucheuma cottonii. The research method was carried out by planting Eucheuma cottonii seaweed in 3 different locations seen from the distance from the tourism position (water sport) in the waters of Pandawa Beach, first location in the water sport area, second location is 100 m to the west of the one location, third location is 100 m to the west of two location. The results of this study indicate that the average weight of seaweed at location 1 in the first to sixth week range 119,6 g – 399,7 g, location 2 range 121,80 g – 413,5 g, and at location 3 it ranged 123,35 g – 430,75 g. The Growth Rate (SGR) at Location 1 is 3,3%, Location 2 is 3,37%, and Location 3 is 3,47.%.

Abstract

Vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) has advantages, such as being more responsive to feed, resistant to diseases and poor environmental conditions, fast growth, high survival rate, and high stocking density. This study aims to examine the effects of different stocking densities on the growth, survival rate, and feed efficiency of vaname shrimp. Vaname shrimp (±0.6 g/shrimp). were stocked in fiber tanks with a volume of 500 liters and filled with seawater with a salinity of 35 ppt. This study used an experimental method with 3 different stocking density treatments: 200 individual/m3 (A), 400 individual/m3 (B), and 600 individual/m3 (C), repeated three times per treatment. The shrimps were cultivated for 60 days and fed at a rate of 5% of their body weight/day four times a day. The results showed that average growth shrimp in treatment A, B, and C were 12.10 g, 10.14 g, and 7.37 g, respectively. The survival rate of shrimp in the treatmen A. B, and C were: 72%, 46,3%, and 56%, respectively. The FCR in the treatment A, B, and C were 0.95; 1.4; and 1.26. One Way ANOVA statistical analysis indicated significant differences (P<0,05) between treatments A dan C in terms of mean body weight growth, as well as between treatments A and B in terms of FCR. This study indicated that different stocking densities affect the growth, survival rates, feed efficiency, and water quality of vaname shrimp.

Abstract

The bacteria Vibrio parahaemolyticus and V. campbellii are the pathogens of Vibriosis in various marine cultured organisms. Moreover, Aeromonas hydrophila is the pathogen of the Motile Aeromonad Septicemia (MAS) disease. Therefore, it is needed to inhibit these bacteria's activity. Studies showed that the extract of seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii could hinder the growth of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria; however, the antibacterial activities against V. parahaemolyticus, V. campbellii, and Aeromonas hydrophila remain unknown. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the antibacterial activity, and the minimum inhibitory concentration of K. alvarezii extract against V. parahaemolyticus, V. campbellii, and A. hydrophila. K. alvarezii was collected from the cultured in the Geger Beach area, Badung Regency. The methanol K. alvarezii extracts with different concentrations (10, 5, 1, 0.05%) were dropped to the paper disk and placed on the bacterial tested cultures. Inhibition zone measurements were carried out every 6 hours during the 24-hour incubation period. Chloramphenicol and methanol were also tested as the positive and negative control, respectively. Results showed that the antibacterial activity was only demonstrated in 10% extract against V. campbellii with an inhibition zone of 12.5 mm.

Abstract

Abstract

White Feces Disease (WFD), which infects Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), poses a serious challenge in aquaculture due to its potential to cause mass mortality and substantial economic losses. One of the main causes of this disease is bacterial infection from the genus Vibrio. The use of natural substances, such as garlic (Allium sativum) extract, is considered a more environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative for disease control. This study aimed to examine the effect and determine the optimal concentration of garlic extract in inhibiting the growth of Vibrio sp. isolated from WFD-infected L. vannamei ponds, cultured on TCBS media. The study was conducted in vitro using the disc diffusion method with four extract concentrations (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) against two bacterial isolates, designated as isolate A and isolate B. The results showed that garlic extract was able to inhibit the growth of Vibrio sp., with the largest inhibition zone observed in isolate A at 75% concentration (14.8 mm) and in isolate B at 100% concentration (19.3 mm). These findings indicate the potential of garlic as a natural antibacterial agent to inhibit pathogenic bacteria and support the sustainability of shrimp aquaculture.

Abstract

Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries number 56 of 2014 and Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries number 10 of 2015 help realize responsible fisheries management and combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing in Fisheries Management Area of the Republic of Indonesia (WPP NRI). The policy of temporarily stopping permits (moratorium) for ships manufactured overseas (ex-foreign vessels) directly impacts fishermen working on ex-foreign vessels in the form of reduced income to loss of livelihoods. The research used a retrospective approach where policy analysis is carried out on the consequences of a policy after the policy is implemented. It is usually referred to as an evaluative analysis model, so it is expected to produce information that can improve the quality of the policies implemented by the government. The study aimed to determine the moratorium's impact on capture fisheries licensing on business activities, especially on fishing effort, catch per unit effort (CPUE), and socioeconomic conditions of fisheries at Benoa Harbor, Bali. This research was conducted from March to October 2022 in the Benoa Harbor Area, Bali. The data in this study were obtained from observation, interviews, questionnaires, and literature/document studies. The moratorium policy for ex-foreign vessels, followed by a ban on transshipment, significantly changed the pattern of trade, particularly for tuna, which was dominated initially by fresh tuna to frozen tuna with a lower value. The longline catches are dominated by Thunnus alalunga, followed by Thunnus maccoyii, Thunnus albacares, and Thunnus obesus. The total of ships in 2014 was 915 units, and only 246 ships remained in 2018. The significant decrease in fish landings in 2015-2017 is a real impact of the moratorium on ex-foreigners in Benoa. The results of the data analysis show that in 2014 the number of attempts was 2,264, which continued to decline until 2018, with only 697 trips.

Abstract

Budikdamber (fish farming in buckets) is an innovation from the aquaponics system that is carried out to keep catfish (C. gariepinus) and plants in the same container. In the Budikdamber system, it is important to pay attention to the high and low density of fish stocking because the rearing container used is a bucket. The purpose of this research was to determine the growth rate and survival rate of catfish at different stocking densities. This research was conducted with 3 treatments and each treatment had 3 repetitions, treatment A (40 fish/m3), treatment B (80 fish/m3), and treatment C (120 fish/m3). The observations showed that the highest specific growth rate of catfish was found in treatment A with a value of 12.74%, followed by treatment B 12.55% and treatment C 12.20%. The highest survival rate of catfish was found in treatment A, which was 90.8%, followed by treatment B at 87.9%, and treatment C at 86.7%. The highest feed conversion ratio (FCR) of catfish was found in treatment B, which was 0.475, followed by treatment A at 0.445, and the lowest FCR value was found in treatment C, which was 0.368. Water quality parameters measured during observations included dissolved oxygen (DO), temperature, acidity (pH), nitrite and nitrate, where all water quality parameters were still considered optimal for growth and survival of catfish.

Abstract

One of the shrimp commodities in high demand on the global market is the vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), and Indonesia is one of the leading countries in shrimp production. To improve the growth and quality of vannamei shrimp production, farming techniques continue to be developed. The practice of eye-stalk cutting on shrimp, also known as eyestalk-cutting, has become a technique actively employed in shrimp farming. However, it is considered a violation of animal welfare regulations. Anti-dopamine is another alternative that can inhibit the gonad maturation inhibiting hormone and improve shrimp reproductive performance. This study aims to determine the effect of eye stalk and anti-dopamine injection on the comparison of egg and nauplii production as well as the hatching rate carried out at Balai Produksi Induk Udang Unggul dan Kekerangan (BPIU2K) in Karangasem, Bali. The research method employed was experimental, with data analysis conducted using an independent t-test. The results showed that eye-stalk produces ±269,000 eggs with a hatching rate (HR) of 26.13%, while anti-dopamine can produce up to ±91,600 eggs with an HR of 83.31%. Total nauplii production from eye-stalk treatment reached ±75,000, and anti-dopamine nauplii production reached ±77,100. T-test results with a 95% significance level indicate a difference in the number of eggs but no significant difference in total nauplii production

Abstract

Giant prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) is a potential fishery commodity. Recently, the commercial aquaculture of giant prawn has developed quite rapidly, especially in the rearing sector, due to its high economic value and accessible cultivation technology application. Low survival and growth are the causes of delays in the cultivation of giant prawns. The quality of the food for giant prawns is important to support the survival of the prawns during aquaculture activities. This study looks at how adding vitamins E and K to artificial food affects the growth and survival of giant prawn larvae from the Galah Prawn Seed Center (BBUG) in Klungkung, Bali. The results show that vitamin E had the highest influence on the growth and survival of giant prawn larvae, with 35.55% survival and a 4.727 growth index. Meanwhile, vitamin K in the prawn feed has no effect due to poor water quality and high mortality. The range of measured water quality was temperature (26-31°C), pH (7.5-7.8), and salinity (5-20 ppt). In general, this study shows that vitamin E had a positive effect on the growth and survival of giant prawn larvae.
