Abstract

The physically, mentally and intellectually limited conditions of students with disabilities result in them being more dependent on the environment around them. Therefore, a teaching model and mentoring by diligent teachers (teacher grit) are needed to help students. This research aims to find a teacher grit model in teaching and mentoring students with disabilities. The method used in this research is a qualitative research approach with a phenomenological model. The research respondents were two male and three female teachers with at least two years of teaching in inclusive schools. The research results show that the teacher grit model was obtained through factors supporting two aspects of grit: Consistency of Interest, including goal setting, initiative, self-care, and optimism. Meanwhile, the Perseverance of effort aspect includes self-acceptance, emotional bonding, social and psychological support, interpersonal communication, and proactive coping. Looking at the teacher grit model, it confirms that it is important for teachers to have perseverance and consistency to support the independence of students with disabilities.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the influence of three personality dimensions (Extraversion, Neuroticism, and Psychoticism) on impulse buying based on gender and the role of self-control as a moderator variable. The research method used is quantitative, with a sample of students from one of the Islamic Universities in Bandung. The measuring instruments used in this research were the Buying Impulsiveness Scale (BIS), Short-scale Eysenck Personality Question-Revised (EPQ-R), and Brief Self Control Scale (BSCS). This research had 254 respondents among students and e-commerce users, of which 173 were female. The results of this study revealed that self-control cannot moderate the influence between the three personality dimensions and impulsive buying in female and male students. Still, this research found a negative and significant impact on self-control on impulsive buying in female students, which can be interpreted as the higher self-control in female students, the lower their impulsive buying. Then, there is a positive and significant influence on the personality dimensions of Extraversion and Neuroticism on impulsive buying in male students, which means that the higher the dominance of the Extraversion and Neuroticism personality in male students, the higher the impulsive buying will be. This research proves that the factors that influence impulse buying are different between men and women.

Abstract

This introductory section highlights the contributions featured in this edition of MediaPsi. The 10(2) 2024 issue presents five articles written in Indonesian, showcasing scientific research conducted through both quantitative and qualitative approaches. These studies explore diverse life phenomena, addressing topics such as education, consumer behavior, post-traumatic experiences following parental divorce, and the role of social capital in multicultural societies. Life's events often evoke unique human responses, as ideal conditions are not always guaranteed. For instance, no individual chooses to experience the challenges of being a child affected by parental divorce, which can lead to post-traumatic growth. Similarly, children born with physical, mental, or intellectual limitations face unique hurdles, yet schools employing effective teaching models with dedicated, teachers grit can help unlock their potential. Another scenario involves students balancing education with employment. Those who demonstrate high levels of grit often develop greater mindfulness, enabling them to manage distractions and excel academically. Other articles examine the impact of technological advancements, such as the ease of online shopping, which has contributed to a rise in impulsive buying behaviors. Additionally, the dynamics of multicultural societies present both challenges and opportunities. While high diversity serves as valuable social capital, it also requires a collective commitment to fostering harmony among citizens. Ultimately, these studies underscore the importance of human agency in managing psychological states and behavioral choices amid varying life circumstances. The breadth of topics in this edition of MediaPsi aims to provide theoretical insights and practical contributions, paving the way for further research in the field.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of cognitive reappraisal as a mediator between social identity and community involvement with subjective well-being among otaku. Otaku, known for their deep interest in Japanese pop culture such as anime and manga, often face challenges related to psychological well-being. Based on social identity theory and emotion regulation, this study examines how social identity and involvement in the otaku community can enhance subjective well-being through cognitive reappraisal. Using SEM-PLS analysis, this study involved 377 participants identified as otaku. The results indicate that social identity and community involvement are positively and significantly related to cognitive reappraisal, which, in turn, is closely related to subjective well-being. These findings highlight the importance of cognitive reappraisal as a mediator in improving the subjective well-being of otaku. The implications of these findings provide insights for practitioners to design more effective interventions to enhance the psychological well-being of otaku.
