Abstract

Central Lampung Regency is one of the cassava production centers in Lampung Province, which has vast land potential and a climate that supports the development of cassava farming. Cassava production in Central Lampung ranks highest in terms of food production compared to five other potential food commodities, namely corn, soybeans, sweet potatoes, and peanuts. High production does not guarantee high profits for cassava farmers. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence cassava production, the elasticity and scale of cassava farming, as well as the technical and allocative efficiency of cassava farming in Central Lampung Regency. The research was conducted in two subdistricts, namely Seputih Mataram and Terbanggi Besar, using a survey method and random sampling of 60 farmers. The data were analyzed using the Cobb-Douglass production function model and then using the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) tool. The results showed that the factors that significantly influenced cassava production were land area, phonska fertilizer, and organic fertilizer, while seeds, urea fertilizer, pesticides, and labor had no significant effect.  The average technical efficiency value of 0.8595 indicates that cassava farming is fairly efficient. Age and land ownership status were found to reduce technical inefficiency, while experience, education, and access to credit had no significant effect. The production scale value of 0.814953 indicates decreasing returns to scale, which means that additional inputs no longer increase output proportionally.

Abstract

The potential for diversification of processed salted egg products that have high economic value is still wide Diversification of processed salted egg products with higher economic value still holds great potential. This is further enhanced by the advantage of not having a fishy odor. To increase competitiveness and added value, innovations in natural ingredients that enrich flavor and reduce fishy odor are needed. This study assessed the business feasibility of original salted egg products and variants infused with spicy cumin leaves and red chilies. The approach used was descriptive quantitative, with analysis of contribution margin, break-even point, and return on innovation. Data were collected from experiments conducted in the Agribusiness Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Perjuangan University, Tasikmalaya. The salted egg formulation infused with cumin leaves (Coleus amboinicus) and red chilies showed positive effects in three dimensions: sensory, economic, and strategic. Sensorigraphically, there was a significant increase in herbal aroma, spiciness, and aftertaste, while simultaneously reducing the fishy odor, likely caused by volatile compounds in cumin leaves. Economically, this innovation generated net revenue of Rp792,777, a contribution margin of Rp4,409 per unit, a break-even point of only 0.21 eggs, and an ROI of 482.02%. The R/C ratio of 2.70 indicates high efficiency and commercial viability. The results suggest opportunities for premium pricing and/or production scale expansion, as both strategies increase profitability. This product possesses differentiation and comparative advantages, allowing it to be positioned as a gourmet or functional food with a spicy, red chili flavor profile.

Abstract

Mas Kirana banana is one of the leading commodities in Lumajang Regency which has high economic value for organic cultivation. The purpose of this study is to determine the potential mapping, implementation of agribusiness systems, economic value, and strategies for developing organic products of Mas Kirana banana commodities in Lumajang Regency. The research location was selected purposively in the Lumajang Regency area. The sampling method was purposive sampling and snowball sampling. Data collection methods used in this study include observation, interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). Data sources in this study are primary and secondary data. The results show that organic Mas Kirana banana products are very suitable for planting in the districts of Jatiroto, Kedungjajang, Klakah, Kunir, Padang, Pasirian, Randuagung, Sukodono, Tempeh, and Yosowilangun. The application of the agribusiness system in the Mas Kirana banana commodity, namely, the quality of the sapling material is not guaranteed, the materials for making fertilizers and pesticides are not guaranteed to be free from chemical contamination, cultivation, harvesting and post-harvest equipment are used for inorganic activities, limited labor both in quantity and quality (skills), access to capital sources is still limited, the market for organic banana products is limited and consumers do not differentiate between organic and inorganic products, weak management in farmer group institutions and Farmer Group Associations (Gapoktan). Mas Kirana bananas are economically obtained, namely, guaranteed better fruit quality, cost efficiency in purchasing chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and can maintain environmental balance. The priority choice of the organic Mas Kirana banana product development strategy is the importance of strengthening farmer institutions by establishing Farmer-Owned Enterprises (BUMP) in order to increase the entrepreneurial spirit, while strengthening the bargaining position in the organic product market mechanism based on science and technology.

Abstract

Crude palm oil (CPO) is a strategic commodity with significant export potential for Indonesia. This study aims to analyze (1) the structure of the Indonesian CPO market in the global market, (2) comparative advantages, and (3) competitive advantages over Malaysia in relation to major export destination countries. The research used a literature study method with secondary data during the period 2014–2023 on five major export destination countries, namely India, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and China. Data analysis includes market share and concentration ratio methods (market structure), RCA, RSCA and TSI (comparative advantage), as well as ECI, CMSA, and EPD (competitive advantage). The results of the study show that the CPO market structure is a tight oligopoly with a CR5 value of 82.50% in Indonesia and 85.46% in Malaysia, and an HHI of 4,421.88 and 3,802.53, respectively. Indonesia and Malaysia have high comparative advantages (RCA>1; RSCA>0), and Indonesia consistently ranks as a net exporter (TSI=0.9996). Indonesia's competitive advantage remains limited because not all destination countries have an ECI value > 1, with CMSA performance that is relatively lower than Malaysia's. Based on the EPD, Indonesia's export position is in the lost opportunity category (India, China) and retreat category (Netherlands, Italy, Spain), while Malaysia is in the retreat (India and the Netherlands) and lost opportunity quadrant (Italy, Spain, and China).

Abstract

The agricultural sector, particularly rice farming, is a primary source of food and income. However, rice farming faces various challenges in increasing productivity due to the limited awareness of the important role of information related to production. The aim of the research is to analyze the selection of information regarding production risks in rice farming. The research method is a sequential mixed method involving 96 rice paddy farmers. Data analysis using structural equation modeling (SEM) with SMART PLS 3.0 software. The research results indicate that the selection of information, which includes information quality, information benefits, and information sources, significantly affects the management of production risks. Meanwhile, information costs have an insignificant impact on managing production risks in rice farming. Therefore, the government and related institutions need to improve access to quality information that is beneficial and from trustworthy sources. More frequently hold training and outreach programs so that farmers become more active and aware of the importance of information, enabling them to continuously seek information to improve the quality of their decision-making.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to analyze cocoa farming income based on three post-harvest treatments, namely wet, non-fermented, and fermented cocoa beans in Way Lima District, Pesawaran Regency. The research method used a survey with a purposive sampling technique on 30 cocoa farmers. Data were analyzed using a financial income approach and business feasibility through the Benefit Cost (B/C) ratio. The results showed that post-harvest treatments made a significant difference to farmers' income and revenue. The highest income was obtained from fermented cocoa at IDR 57,500,000/hectare/year, followed by non-fermented at IDR 52,542,320.56/hectare/year, and wet cocoa beans at IDR 27,864,192.73/year. The income from fermented cocoa farming is Rp 44,602,761.09/year, higher than non-fermented cocoa at Rp 40,267,179.96/hectare/year and wet beans at Rp 18,435,394.09/hectare/year. The B/C ratio value shows that all post-harvest cocoa treatments are feasible to be cultivated (B/C > 1), with the highest value in fermented cocoa (3.35), then non-fermented cocoa (3.28), and wet cocoa beans (1.96). These results explain that fermented cocoa provides added value, improved quality, and higher income for cocoa farmers, although it requires additional costs and labor. Therefore, the application of fermentation needs to be continuously encouraged as a strategy to improve the welfare of cocoa farmers.
