Abstract

Investigation on English foreign language learners’ learning experiences has been discussed by a plethora of studies. The current study presents a survey on the learning motivation and challenges of Indonesian senior high school students. A cohort of approximately 64 students from a private senior high school in Indonesia was invited to participate in two questionnaires. Analysis of the students’ responses showed that their English language learning motivations were affected by both internal and external motivational factors, which were put into four categories; motivation for knowledge, internal fulfilment regulation, motivation to challenge, and external utility regulation. In terms of the challenges, boredom and anxiety were experienced by the students; although the degrees of the challenges were not significant, the students showed some factors that could trigger their anxiety and boredom. These findings suggest English language teachers keep stimulating the students to enhance and sustain their motivations in learning English both externally and internally and directing them to enjoy their learning process through innovative learning resources and activities.

Abstract

The background of this research is related to several deviations in the character of primary school students. Thus, it is necessary to provide educational media that can be imitated. This study analyzes the values of character education from Denias Senandung Di atas Awan movie by John De Rantau that primary school-age students can imitate. Qualitative research is a research approach used with the type of documentary research, which is one type of research in qualitative. Documentation technique is used for collecting data which contain writings related to the plot of the story in the movie under study. Data analysis in this study uses content analysis. Ten character values were found in the movie as the content of character education values which were the character values of honesty, disciplined, creativity, independence, democracy, national spirit, patriotism, friendly/communicative, peace-loving, and responsible. Children from the movie Denias Senandung Di atas Awan can imitate these 10 points of character education

Abstract

Social and cultural changes impact advances in Science and Technology (IPTEK) that occur at any time, especially in communication and information technology. As a result, these advances occurred in community activities in the fields of economy, law, politics, education, and others. This study aims to analyse how the management of improving the quality of Islamic Education (hereafter, PAI) learning in entering socio-cultural changes at two different state senior high schools in Sukabumi City, West Java. This article used a phenomenological study as the research design. Interviews and observations were conducted to collect the data. After that, the data was analysed using three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing and verification/interpretation. Based on the research focus on PAI learning management in entering socio-cultural changes in those two schools, the results of the research, in general, can be concluded that PAI teachers at those schools have understood and implemented PAI learning management in entering the socio-cultural change in accordance with applicable techniques and theories so that the learning process is conducive even though the results have not reached a very satisfactory target.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe the influence of: Organizational Innovation (IO) through Self-Concept (KD) on teacher performance (KG) at SMAN in Kendari City. Technique Probability Sampling using Proportional Stratified Random Sampling. Data retrieval was carried out using instruments developed by the researchers themselves based on theories built by experts by first being tested on 80 teachers empirically to determine validity and reliability, data analysis techniques were: 1) Analyst prerequisite test, namely normality test, evaluation of univariate outliers and multivariate outliers, evaluation of multicollinearity, evaluation of Goodness-of-fit criteria, reliability and variance extract, 2) Structural Equation Modeling was used to test hypotheses. The results of this study indicate that organizational innovation through self-concept on teacher performance has a positive and significant effect. This finding means that the involvement of organizational innovation through self-concept mediation will improve teacher performance. This is also shown by the results of the indirect effect test (indirect effect) that there is a direct influence of organizational innovation on self-concept of 0.255 and a direct effect of self-concept on teacher performance of 0.260., p-value testing both Sobel test (0.033), Aroian test (0.038), goodman test (0.028), all three are less than the value of = 5%. Based on the three tests, the results of the indirect effect test on organizational innovation through self-concept have a significant effect on teacher performance.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of YouTube as an electronic learning resource in English writing learning. An exploratory mixed method was used in this study. Research instruments included tests, observations and questionnaires. The participants in this study were all third-semester English majors at Bina Sarana Informatika University in Jakarta. The participants were 100 students that were taken randomly. The researcher collected the data from September until December 2021. The result of the English essay writing test was analyzed by using a t-test. The observation was be done during the learning process and the questionnaire used to get students' input about the effectiveness of YouTube as an e-resource.    The results of the study concluded that YouTube as an e-resource has a positive impact on the ability to write English essays. The test results before and after implementing YouTube as an e-resource were t-stat (8.76) t-table (2.022), which means Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted. While the Pearson correlation was 0.732. Students also gave a positive view of the use of YouTube during essay writing activities. This can be seen in the average value which was dominated by strongly agreed answers. This study concluded that learning resources for writing should be presented as learning resources that involve audio-visual and interesting so that story ideas can be developed.

Abstract

Academic supervision is a process taken by the principal to assist teachers in increasing their ability to manage the effective learning. This study aims to determine the program, implementation, role of supervisors, supporting and inhibiting factors for the principal's academic supervision in improving online learning during the covid-19 period at SMPN 19 in Banda Aceh. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and documentation study. The research subjects were school principals and teachers. The data analysis used was reduction techniques, data presentation, data interpretation and data verification. The results showed that: the effectiveness of the implementation of academic supervision of school principals in the Covid-19 pandemic at SMPN 19 Percontohan in Banda Aceh was seen from : (1) The planning for the academic supervision of school principal is conducted by cooperating with all education stakeholders in providing quality education as determined by all parties, including teachers and school principal. (2) The implementation of the academic supervision of the principal is conducted by seeing the teacher  perform the distance learning and offline learning through lesson planning which includes competency standards, basic competencies, indicators of success, and teaching materials, the presentation of fun material, the use of appropriate methods, the existence of media to support the learning process and assignments that are able to measure all student abilities. (3) The principal provides guidance, direction, and guidance to teachers who still have weaknesses and deficiencies in managing learning; (4) The supporting factors for academic supervision are the high of teacher awareness, good teacher perceptions of academic supervision, and motivation / support from parents to students.

Abstract

Teaching English drama to multicultural students has the problem of solving the similarities and differences between language and culture. This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of intercultural learning materials (ILM) in English drama at English Department. This study was quantitative research that explored quasi-experimental research. The sample of this research was eleven students in the experimental group and ten in the control group. The sample was taken by using random cluster sampling. The instrument of this research was a test that developed the student drama performance test. The data were analysed by using a T-test. The result shows that the students scored significantly in the experimental group with an average score of 201.85 % (a sig value of 0.003 0.05). Based on the result of this research, there was a significant effect of intercultural learning material in improving students' English drama. Then, the intercultural learning materials were the alternative resources for linking the different languages and cultures in teaching and learning drama.

Abstract

Learning does not always go according to what is expected. The existence of problems during the learning process is a challenge. The subjects of the Qur'an Hadith have been found learning difficulties for students. So to understand the learning difficulties experienced by students and know and analyze the creative efforts of Qur’an teachers Hadith in overcoming learning difficulties, this research was conducted at madrasah International Standard in Mojokerto. The researchers use a qualitative approach, a type of case study using; collects data, analyses, and concludes field data. As for the research findings: 1) Difficulties faced by students include; difficulty reading, writing, memorization, and understanding material 2) While creativity carried out by the Master of the Qur'an Hadith to overcome learning difficulties, namely; a) On the difficulty of reading and writing; Personal approach, Cooperate with the Muadalah program; (a) Reading the Quran with tajwid (b) Providing writing and making up skills in Arabic, b) Difficulty memorizing material; Giving short verses, providing motivation, instructing repeat memorization giving time lag during learning c) Difficulty understanding the material; Giving repetition of the material,  using simple language,  providing motivation, interpreting verse every word.

Abstract

The Komering cultural local content curriculum was adopted at Muhammadiyah Primary School in 2021. The school is using the Komering cultural local content curriculum to help pupils comprehend local culture. However, the development of the local content curriculum in schools has not been founded on a scientific review of the curriculum, thus, teachers who carry out Komering cultural local content are still drawn from general instructors or do not have backgrounds in arts and culture education. As a result, the implementation is incomplete. The goal of this research was to find out what role educators had in the implementation of the Komering Culture Local Content Curriculum at Muhammadiyah Primary School. Local content instructors' grasp of Komering cultural knowledge, the learning process for Komering culture local content, and assessment of learning results. The method utilised is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The instrument employed observation and interviews, which were then evaluated using descriptive qualitative methods using Miles and Huberman’s theory. The findings revealed that the basic concerns of schools in implementing the Komering culture local content curriculum were based on the vision and goal of the local government, which conveyed regional culture and taught students more about Komering culture. Teachers back them as curriculum implementers for commercial, and cultural content in their own communities, and principals recognise them as leaders.

Abstract

This article aims to analyse the task instruction of speaking tasks in an English student’s book for grade X that Balitbang Kemdikbud publishes. As the first edition of the textbook, some inaccuracies might be found especially related to task instruction. This is descriptive research with checklist evaluation as the instrument of the research. The checklist evaluation of task instruction consists of six sub-indicators. Four evaluators, the English teachers who use the book, fulfilled the checklist evaluation. Based on the findings, six chapters of the book have salience task instruction, seven chapters have succinct task instructions, eight chapters have sufficient task instruction, seven chapters in the book have standardised task instruction, and all chapters in the book have the sequence in the task instruction, and also the task instruction in the textbook has a clear target of the task. In short, the task instruction of speaking task already fulfils the criteria of good task instruction. However, several criteria need to be revised.
