Abstract

This study was carried out in perception to the demand that in this 4.0 era, Indonesian students should be proficient in English. Hence, in Indonesia, English has been taught and learnt since elementary school level up to tertiary level of education. This study aims to examine non EFL students' English learning strategies in ESP learning; especially regarding the types of strategies used most often and the tendency of non EFL students to use these strategies. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study method involving 37 Medical Laboratory Technician students. They were selected by stratified random sampling. The instrument used is a questionnaire adapted from Oxford (1990). The results of study showed that non EFL students were not very aware of the use of language learning strategies in learning English as a foreign language because they rarely used them. However, non EFL students had priority affective strategy (24.3%), social strategy (22.3%), followed by compensation strategies (19.3%), cognitive (11.4%), metacognitive (14.3%), and memory strategies (8.4%). Based on the research results, it is expected that non EFL students can recognize and learn foreign language learning strategies comprehensively, which must be applied continuously to achieve success.

Abstract

Transformative learning is a form of education directed at achieving the search for solutions to problems that occur.  Consequently, learning should be based on a critical attitude towards the self and environment of the learners.  Transformative learning makes everyone involved in education aware that learning brings action and reflects effort. This study aims to explain transformative learning management in MIS Islamiyah Muhammadiyah Walikukun Ngawi. This research is field research.  Data analysis is done using the triangulation method by sorting, grouping, and concluding.  The results showed that self-transformation is a fundamental concept of learning applied in MIS Islamiyah Muhammadiyah Walikukun.  This basic foundation encourages schools to change the learning process's structure, characteristics, and substance.  In this case, the educator's function is a facilitator in providing a stimulus for changes in the attitudes and behavior of students in facing and solving problems that exist in themselves and their environment.

Abstract

Online learning is different from offline learning, and the various academic atmosphere, facilities, and infrastructure cause changes in behaviour. By comparing how students learn in the face-to-face learning process to how they learn when using the internet, this study hopes to find and explain the factors that change how students learn when using the internet. This study uses descriptive and quantitative methods, and 99 students at an Islamic university in Lhokseumawe were asked to participate. The results showed that: (1) all indicators of learning behaviour in learning using the internet network decreased in percentage compared to face-to-face learning, but this percentage decrease was still within the range of reasonable interpretation; and (2) every item in the questionnaire showed that there is a change in learning using the internet network, with more answer choices sometimes and less answer choices often or always. This is a sign that learning to use the internet for too long will cause students to change the way they learn in a wrong way or not the way they should.

Abstract

The concept of an independent learning curriculum issued by the government has the aim of liberating education so that students can think and innovate freely. One way to support the independence of student education is to make adjustments in the learning process, especially in elementary schools. Therefore, this study develops learning on a STEM basis to support the profile of Pancasila students. This study uses the ADDIE method, which has five stages: analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate. The results showed that STEM-based learning could support the profile of Pancasila students. The teaching modules developed are on valid criteria, with a score range of 4≤ V 5. Likewise, the practicality of the module is a very practical criterion, with a score of 5. Student responses to STEM-based learning indicate that it can help support the achievement of the Pancasila student profile, namely critical reasoning, cooperation, and independence. In addition, the developed teaching modules can also help the learning process that is meaningful, fun, and interesting so that it can improve students' understanding as evidenced by the percentage of students' completeness that reaches 100% and is in very good criteria. Based on the study results, it can be concluded that the STEM-based learning module has met the valid, practical, and effective criteria for use in student learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

The development of an employment contract-based madrassa principal supervision model is designed with a contract of employment approach for the principal and teachers (the parties) so that the parties share the responsibility and commitment in implementing the academic supervision program at the madrassa. This study aims to develop a model for the supervision of the principal based on a contract of employment. The research uses the Research and Development method by following the steps, including the preliminary study stage, the model development stage, the model validation stage, and the model improvement stage. In the preliminary study stage, the 1st focus group discussion (FGD) and field studies were carried out, in order to obtain factual data on the implementation of academic supervision so far, and continued with literature studies in order to obtain the results of previous research deemed relevant. At the model design development stage, the and FGD activity was carried out to socialize the conceptual model design and ask for suggestions and input from the madrassa principal and supervisor to improve the developed model. At the model validation stage, the and FGD activity was carried out with experts to test the feasibility of the model on a limited basis through the Delphi technique, to find out how far the effectiveness of the model can be carried out by the madrassa principal. At the last stage, undertaking improvements or revisions to the model according to suggestions and input from the head of the madrassa, supervisors and experts to finalize the model. Then, testing the validity of the data through triangulation of sources. The results of this study indicate that: 1) the current implementation of academic supervision has not received serious attention from the madrassa principal, both in terms of planning academic supervision programs and in implementing academic supervision programs as well as evaluating and following up on the results of observation of class visits supervision, 2) development The employment contract-based madrassa principal supervision model can be an alternative academic supervision model with a contract agreement approach for the principal and teachers (the parties) so that they both have the responsibility and commitment in implementing the academic supervision program at the madrassa. Researchers suggest other researchers to conduct trials with a wider scale in order to find out more accurately and validly about the level of effectiveness of this model.

Abstract

This research is driven by the provision of reward and punishment, which influences student psychology in increasing learning motivation. The purpose of this study was to describe the impact of reward and punishment on students' extrinsic motivation. The research used a qualitative descriptive method with the subject of the fourth grade’s homeroom teachers and three students at a state elementary school in Kumantan. Data was collected by observation, interviews and documentation. Triangulation was carried out through focus group discussions between researchers, homeroom teachers and students. The results of the research show that giving rewards and punishment has an impact on student development if it is done properly and appropriately. Rewards are given to instill good values, which is done by habituation and appreciation when doing positive things, but when the students do negative things, the teacher will provide appropriate punishment for them as this punishment aims to prevent students from repeating unacceptable actions. Based on the results of this study, it was concluded that the effectiveness of reward and punishment as an educational tool to get feedback from students will be gained if they are appropriately delivered.
