Abstract

Online learning is often complained about as it makes students uncomfortable and inactive in learning activities because they need to meet face-to-face with classmates and teachers. This article explained how in the online learning model, students could feel involved with all learning components even if they were not face-to-face while using the “deep listening” spiritual pedagogy approach. The practice of “deep listening” pedagogy was carried out on students in the General Basic Course lecture class, namely Religious Education, with 35 students. The goal was to encourage student engagement and the ability to connect with all components in the learning classroom. Data were collected through observation and implementation of “deep listening” practice through focus group discussion, then analyzed with a qualitative approach. The result showed that through observation and practice of “deep listening” in the focus of online group discussions, 1) students could convey their inner voice openly and honestly. 2) It can be observed through conversations that there were changes in students’ perceptions about the meaning of beliefs, human nature, religious experiences, relationships with others, and the development of spirituality. 3) It can be observed that students’ ability to engage and feel connected to all components of learning was a meaning of intersubjectivity through opinions and thoughts conveyed in online learning.

Abstract

West Kalimantan is a province in Indonesia with the longest border with foreign countries. Therefore, education in these areas must be paid close attention to so that students can obtain optimal learning competency results and master basic literacy and character values as catalysts for understanding, awareness, and attitudes toward the pillars of national and state life. This study aims to determine the practicality of developing a multi-split model based on the hands-on-mind approach that can be used to reconstruct basic literacy and character values in the border areas of West Kalimantan and Malaysia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research method used was research and development (R&D). The source of the data in this study was obtained from the results of field trials; thus, the practicality of developing a multi-split model based on the hands-on-mind approach observed by two teachers could be seen. The results of the practicality analysis showed that (1) the implementation of learning using a multi-split model based on a hands-on-mind approach reached an average score of 3.23 with good criteria, (2) student activities got an average score for each activity of at least 3.16 with good criteria and (3) the obstacles experienced by students were not familiar with the pattern of the learning process using this model; consequently several student activities could not run optimally.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the flipped learning model, which was designed according to learning styles in the unit of "Acids, Bases, and Salts," compared to the traditional flipped learning model. For this purpose, the study was conducted in a pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental design with the participation of 37 students who were 10th graders and it lasted for 7 weeks. The students in the experimental group students were taught in the flipped learning model, which was designed according to learning styles. In contrast, the ones in the control group were taught in the traditional flipped learning model. The results demonstrated that the experimental group achieved more success than the control group students taught in traditional flipped models. Besides, it was found through semi-structured interviews with voluntary students that the students generally had a positive perspective of the flipped learning model.

The study also compared pupils’ socio-emotional, peer victimization, extracurricular achievements, academic performance, and career aspirations in three types of schools in Kuantan, Pahang. Data from three different schools were collected using a single cross-sectional with probability sampling design and analyzed using R programming. The result showed that pupils in girls’ schools performed better in mathematics and science than in boys’ and coeducational schools. Furthermore, pupils in boys’ schools were more interested in extracurricular activities than in coeducational schools. However, it was found that pupils in girls’ schools were more inspired to determine their future careers as compared to pupils in boys’ schools. Therefore, the study concluded that single-sex school was better regarding academic performance, career aspiration, peer victimization, and extracurricular activities. The study results suggest that students or parents choose the best path or school for their future endeavors.

Abstract

School is a formal institution that is the right place for students to develop their potential. National education aims to provide space and educational materials for every student, including slow learner students. Religious education material is one of the materials that must be provided. This research aimed to describe the learning strategies used by religious teachers to slow learning students. This qualitative research used a narrative approach. There were eight participants: Islamic religion teachers, special guidance teachers and two school principals. Data collection through in-depth interviews and analysis with the stages of data reduction, presentation and interpretation. This research found peer teaching and repetition models to be the main learning models. It was consistent with the character of slow-learner students with below-average cognitive abilities. Slow learner students tend to accept material slowly and repeatedly. They were also more comfortable when being taught by peers because, psychologically, they felt the same age. Meanwhile, the biggest obstacle for slow learner students in learning was limited cognitive ability, unstable concentration power and negative image of parents towards children's abilities. The findings of this study are interesting to be used as a reference for teachers and parents in educating slow learner children.

Abstract

The presence of bullying within Islamic boarding schools is a serious issue that demands immediate attention and prevention. This research aimed to investigate the factors of bullying, the characteristics of bullying behavior in Islamic boarding schools, and the preventative measures implemented by Islamic boarding schools to shield their students. The research approach employed is a systematic literature review focused on published articles. The data was restricted to articles published from 2013 to 2023. The researchers used PRISMA analysis to analyze the data. The research results found that individual, a supportive environment, parental parenting patterns, particularly authoritarian parenting patterns, and aggressive or violent video or film elements were all factors in bullying. Several strategies had been put into effect, including the following: creating a fun cottage movement (GPM) program, strengthening conflict and emotional management, carrying out regular outreach and training regarding the dangers of bullying, cyber bullying, and legal education for bullies, implementing an anti-bullying curriculum, and others. Besides, more comprehensive research findings indicated that Islamic boarding schools must implement character formation based on Josephson’s “Character Counts” theory with six main pillars to prevent bullying behavior among students.

Abstract

This research aims to understand the fundamental philosophy behind the Aceh Governor’s authority in approving the appointment of the Regional Police Chief. It also aims to define and explore the concept of the Aceh Governor’s authority in approving the appointment of the Regional Police Chief within the framework of the unitary state paradigm. Finally, it seeks to identify the most effective procedure for the Aceh Governor’s approval in appointing the Regional Police Chief. This research follows a normative juridical approach, employing a statutory, conceptual, and historical method. The results of the research in this study show that the authority of the Governor of Aceh in approving the appointment of the Regional Police Chief, in accordance with the unitary state paradigm, can be attached to the provisions of Article 205 of the UUPA, which states that the appointment of the Regional Police Chief must be with the Governor’s approval, which is basically contrary to Article 18 of the 1945 Constitution, which states that regions exercise autonomy as wide as possible but are limited by government affairs regulated by law. There is no synchronization between one law and another, nor is there synchronization of legal regulations regarding the authority of the police and Wilayatul Hisbah.

Abstract

Recently, an intense discussion has developed among religion and social issues researchers on the discourse of spiritualism. The existence of spiritualism has changed parts of human civilization, including religious attitudes and expressions that exist in the public sphere. Therefore, in this study, the authors examined the discourse of spiritualism exemplified by Jamaah Maiyah Cak Nun. The model of spiritualism that the authors adopted was different in context from the cultural spiritualism studied by many scientists. This study sought to elaborate and explore the surge of religious spiritualism promoted by Jamaah Maiyah Cak Nun using a qualitative research framework. In addition, this research leads to a social and religious anthropological research model that combines virtual ethnography and fieldwork. The results of this study revealed the existence of spiritualism promoted by Jamaah Maiyah Cak Nun. Meanwhile, the development of various models of different aspects of spiritualism could not be separated from the support of the community itself. The Jamaah Maiyah's interaction also deserved attention; universal religious expressions and egalitarianism were the domains of the community. This research should be a reference for developing religious and social discourse in the future.
