Abstract

Extended-spectrum beta lactamase producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-Ec) colonization in poultry worker is one prominent of zoonotic problem, in which of it, daily contact, working period and biosecurity play role. This study aimed to identify association between daily contact, working period and biosecurity to ESBL-Ec’ colonization. Rectal swab was applied to poultry workers to identify phenotypic ESBL-Ec. Duration of contact, working period and biosecurity parameter data was obtained through structured questionnaire. A number of 51 poultry workers with a mean age of 42.7 years, and 54.9% are male. Nineteen poultry workers (37.3%) was tested positive for ESBL-Ec. Daily contact of ≥ 2 hours is not significant (p = 0.291; 95% CI) while working period of ≥ 3 years is significant (p = 0.024; 95% CI) to ESBL-Ec’ colonization. Twenty-one biosecurity parameters were measured, with 3 parameters significant association: sick chicken isolation (p = 0.022), existence of quarantine shed (p = 0.018) and past biosecurity training (p = 0.047). In conclusion, working period ≥ 3 years, sick chicken isolation, existence of quarantine shed and past biosecurity training is associated with ESBL-Ec’ colonization to farmer.

Abstract

In this research, SVM will be used to differentiate between plain nail art designs (class 0), 3D nail art designs (class 1), and hand painting nail art designs (class 2). The dataset used consists of images of nail designs that have been collected and analyzed previously. First, the dataset is divided into three different classes based on the type of nail design. The first class (class 0) includes plain nail art designs, then the second class (class 1) is 3D nail art designs, and the third class (class 2) is hand painting nail art designs. This process is carried out to allow SVM to learn the feature differences between the two types of designs. The data used will be divided into training and testing data and divided into three data division schemes, namely 60/40, 70/30, and 80/20. Based on the results of the research discussed, it can be concluded that classification using the Linear SVM model on three data sharing schemes provides the best level of accuracy on the 80/20 scheme, namely 81.25%. Meanwhile, classification using the non-linear SVM model achieved the highest level of accuracy of 95% in the 80/20 scheme with the RBF Kernel. Thus, the SVM model that is suitable for classifying nail art designs is a non-linear SVM model with the 80/20 scheme. The accuracy results obtained from this research also show that SVM provides good performance in classifying nail art designs.

Abstract

Kamal Beach in the Madura Strait is suspected to have experienced heavy metal contamination due to ship recycling industry activities. Heavy metals have a negative impact on the aquatic environment, aquatic biota and even humans. This study aims to analyze the impact of heavy metal content in Kamal Beach, especially heavy metals Fe, Zn, and Cu as heavy metals found in the region on the histopathological aspects of the gill and liver organs of aquatic biota, namely mullet fish (Crenimugil seheli). The levels of heavy metals Fe, Zn, and Cu were analyzed using the AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectometry) method in accordance with SNI 6989.4:2009. Hiatopathological analysis of the gill and liver organs was carried out using the scoring method where from the results of the analysis it was known that the damage that occurred in the gill organs was in the form of edema, hyperplasia, lamellar fusion, and necrosis while damage to the liver organs included degeneration, necrosis, and congestion. Damage to the gill and liver organs of mullet fish is caused by the high content of Zn and Cu in water and sediment.

Abstract

The purpose of this review is to determine the sugar content profile in various types of honey produced by Apis mellifera, such as monofloral, unifloral, extra-floral, and honeydew. Generally, the goal is to assess the average sugar content parameters within acceptable ranges set by SNI, Codex, and EU as quality and sugar content requirements. Among the honey types studied, monofloral honey met the sugar standards but some samples were found to have low sugar content, ranging from 21.77% to 58.95%, below SNI and Codex standards. In contrast, unifloral, extra-floral, and honeydew honeys exhibited higher sugar levels, in accordance with established standards, ranging from 73.40% to 83.9%. The differences in sugar content among the types of honey produced by A. mellifera are influenced by nectar sources, geography, climate, and vegetation. Monofloral honey tends to have lower sugar content, while unifloral, extra-floral, and honeydew honeys are richer in sugar, making them more compliant with honey quality standards. Further research should focus on identifying plant species and the quantity of nectar that can consistently produce honey with sugar content meeting established quality standards.

Abstract

Haliclona sp. is a genus of demosponges in the family Chalinidae. Demospongiae are a type of sponge that lives in marine environments and is known for its unique, often branching skeletal structure. The use of antibiotics has led to the selection of pathogenic microorganisms in humans that are more resistant to many types of drugs, resulting in poorer treatment outcomes in cases of infection. Bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics due to improper dosing, inaccurate diagnosis, and inappropriate use of antibiotics against the causative bacteria. This study aims to determine the antimicrobial activity of the methanol extract of Haliclona sp. as an inhibitor of pathogenic microbes. This research employs a descriptive method with antagonistic testing. The results of the methanol extraction process of the symbiotic bacteria in Haliclona sp. produced a thick, dark brown extract. The results of the antagonistic test showed that the clear zones formed on the three test microbes were categorized as strong.
