Abstract

This study aims to review studies that use diagnostic tests to identify misconceptions in physics learning and examine the methods used to overcome them. The results of the review can be used by educators in choosing the type of diagnostic test and method to overcome misconceptions. The methods used are PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) and content analysis. A total of 50 articles published in 2018–2023 were analyzed, which focused on the development of diagnostic tests and the application of methods to overcome misconceptions. The results of the study indicate that misconceptions can be identified through various forms of diagnostic tests, such as two-tier, three-tier, four-tier, five-tier, six-tier, and multiple-choice tests. In addition, an educational computing-based approach or computer-assisted learning has proven effective in overcoming misconceptions, especially when supported by the right learning process and model.

Abstract

Phenolics are compounds that have a hydroxyl (OH) group attached to an aromatic ring, and are known for various health benefits such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. This study aims to measure the total phenolic content and characterize the functional groups in Tinospora crispa stem extract using a decoction method, as well as evaluate its potential as a source of bioactive compounds. Extraction was performed by boiling dried Tinospora crispa stems in water. Total phenolic content was quantified using UV-Vis spectrophotometry (λ = 765 nm) via the Folin-Ciocalteu reaction, with a gallic acid calibration curve (R² = 0.998). Functional group analysis was conducted using FTIR (4000–400 cm⁻¹). The extract showed high phenolic content (384.909 mg GAE/g), supported by the identification of characteristic functional groups such as O-H (3255.55 cm⁻¹), C=C (2121.59 cm⁻¹), and C-O (1261.45 cm⁻¹) in the FTIR spectrum. These groups are associated with the presence of bioactive compounds such as phenolics. Therefore, Tinospora crispa has potential as a source of phenolic compounds, one of which can be obtained using the decoction method.

Abstract

Indonesia has a diversity of medicinal plants that are used by the community to treat various diseases. Indonesian people often experience skin problems caused by fungi. The high number of cases of fungal diseases is due to the high air humidity in the tropics, thus supporting the growth of fungi that cause skin infections. This study examines the phytochemical content and antifungal activity of Baccaurea lanceolata (lempaung) plants. The parts of lempaung used as samples are the stem bark and fruit flesh. Samples were taken in Bioa Sengok Village, Rimbo Pengadang District, Lebong Regency. Antifungal testing was conducted at the Chemistry Education Laboratory and Microbiology Laboratory of Bengkulu University (UNIB) from January to June 2022. Antifungal activity testing uses the disc diffusion method by immersing the disc into the ethanol extract of lempaung. The test fungi used were C. albicans, M. furfur, and T. mentagrophytes. The results of phytochemical tests showed that the stem bark and fruit flesh samples of lempaung contained alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids, and terpenoids. The antifungal activity test results showed that the samples had inhibition against C. albicans, M. furfur, and T. mentagrophytes.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of students' creative thinking skills in Physics and analyze their perceptions of Physics learning. The method used is descriptive quantitative involving 59 high school students selected through random sampling techniques. The instruments used include creative thinking skills tests and student response questionnaires that are analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of the study indicate that in general students' creative thinking skills are in the moderate category with an analysis per aspect, where "originality" obtained the highest percentage, while "flexibility" showed the lowest value. There was no significant difference between the creative thinking skills of male and female students. From the results of the questionnaire, some students stated that Physics lessons were still considered difficult and the learning was less innovative. Although most students have experience in working on projects, the implementation of mini projects is still considered necessary to optimize the development of creative thinking skills. These findings can be the basis for further research in developing project-based learning models to improve students' creative thinking skills in Physics learning in high school

Abstract

Rare Earth Elements (REEs) are strategic commodities essential for various high-technology applications, including renewable energy, electronics, and defense systems. However, their uneven global distribution and increasing demand have intensified the need for exploration in undercharacterized regions. This study investigates the REE potential of weathered granitic rocks in the Pamonangan Sub-district, North Sumatra. A total of 200 mesh rock samples from outcrop and subsurface locations were analyzed using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) to determine their elemental composition. The geochemical results show high concentrations of SiO₂ and Al₂O₃ relative to Fe₂O₃, suggesting significant weathering of the granitic parent rocks. The combination of elevated SiO₂ and low P₂O₅ contents indicates a predominance of silica-hosted REE phases over phosphate-hosted minerals. Mineralogical analysis confirms the presence of cassiterite, chlorite, monazite, and zircon as secondary REE carriers, particularly of Ce and La. These findings point to a previously unrecognized potential for REE mineralization in the region. This research provides a geochemical and mineralogical framework for future exploration and highlights the importance of weathered granitoids as prospective REE sources in Indonesia.
