Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur kepribadian tokoh Engtay dan faktor perubahan tipe kepribadian tokoh Engtay. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian kepustakaan. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa kalimat dan kutipan yang diperoleh dari naskah drama Sampek Engtay. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik baca dan catat. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis kualitatif yang terdiri dari tiga alur, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan simpulan. Berdasarkan penelitian maka diperoleh hasil bahwa tidak ada keseimbangan antara id, ego, superego yang dialami Engtay. Engtay cenderung hanya mementingkan keinginannya dari pada aspek biologis yang berkembang di masyarakat, sehingga terjadi ketegangan di dalam diri Engtay. Selain analisis terhadap struktur kepribadian tersebut, dilakukan juga analisis tipe kepribadian tokoh Engtay. Hasil penelitian menyebutkan bahwa tokoh Engtay mengalami konsistensi dari yang sebelumnya dia bertipe phlegmatis setelah mengalami konflik dia tetap dengan tipe phlegmatis. Terdapat tiga faktor yang menyebabkan perubahan kepribadian tokoh Engtay yang meliputi, pertama faktor fisik yang ditandai ketika Engtay yang harus menyamar menjadi seorang laki-laki agar bisa bersekolah di Yayasan Putra Bangsa. Faktor yang kedua ialah faktor lingkungan sosial yang ditandai ketika ibunya yang masih sangat percaya pada larangan bahwa anak perempuan tidak boleh bersekolah dan hanya boleh berdiam diri di rumah. Ketiga faktor diri sendiri ditandai dari diri Engtay yang sangat menginginkan untuk bisa bersekolah karena ia  mau menjadi wanita yang mengetahui betapa luasanya dunia dan memiliki pendidikan agar kaum wanita tidak dipandang sebelah mata.

Abstract

This research discusses magical realism in Neil Gaiman’s The Ocean at the End of the Lane. The purposes of this research are to find out the characteristics and literary techniques and to explain the role of magical realism that is portrayed in the novel. This research uses theories of characteristics of magical realism by Wendy B. Faris and literary techniques and role of magical realism by Anne C. Hegerfeldt. The method that is applied is descriptive qualitative and the approach is post-structuralism. The data are obtained from the dialogues and narrations that relate to the topics that are being analyzed. The result of the analysis shows that the five primary characteristics of magical realism are found in the novel like the irreducible elements of magic, unsettling doubts, phenomenal world, merging realms, and disruption of time/space/identity. It also shows that the five basic literary techniques of magical realism are represented within the novel such as the adaptation of other genres and modes, magical realist focalizer, paradigm of knowledge, strategies of destabilization, and techniques of literalization. The result also shows the role of magical realism that is portrayed through the influence of magical phenomena in the narrator/protagonist’s life.

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to find the femininity characteristics and identity developments as a homosexual in the character of Dante of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secret of Universe novel. This research was categorized as descriptive qualitative research and was using content analysis approach. The researcher used Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secret of Universe novel as the source of data. The data were taken from the dialogues between characters and narrations that indicating Dante’s femininity characteristics based on Bem theory and his identity development as a homosexual based on Cass theory. From the finding of this research, it reveals that the character of Dante possess 16 out of 20 femininity characteristics which are affectionate, cheerful, childlike, compassionate, eager to soothe hurt feelings, feminine, gentle, gullible, sensitive of the needs of others, loyal, soft spoken, sympathetic, tender, understanding, warm, and yielding. Dante also fulfills 4 out of 6 identity developments which are identity of confusion, comparison, tolerance and acceptance. The character of Dante has femininity characteristics and he experiences the identity development phases to be a homosexual.

Abstract

Skripsi ini memfokuskan pada analisis terhadap lirik lagu grup musik Banda Neira dalam album Yang Patah Tumbuh Yang Hilang Berganti. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini, yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk permajasan berupa jenis gaya bahasa, stile dominan, makna dan juga fungsi keindahan pada lirik lagu grup musik Banda Neira. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif yang termasuk dalam jenis penelitian kepustakaan. Data dalam penelitian berupa kata, frasa, dan klausa atau kalimat yang terdapat pada lirik lagu grup musik Banda Neira dalam album Yang Patah Tumbuh Yang Hilang Berganti. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik baca dan catat. Data dianalisis menggunakan metode (1) Reduksi Data, (2) Penyajian Data, dan (3) Penarikan Simpulan. Hasil penelitian ini berupa lirik lagu grup musik Banda Neira dalam album Yang Patah Tumbuh Yang Hilang Berganti. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan makna majas dan stile dominan pada lirik lagu grup musik Banda Neira dalam album Yang Patah Tumbuh Yang Hilang Berganti. Stile dominan berupa majas perbandingan yaitu majas personifikasi dan majas simbolik. Penggunaan kedua majas tersebut merujuk kepada majas fabel yaitu penggunaan nama tumbuh-tumbuhan berlaku seperti manusia. Stile naturalis juga terdapat pada album ini, mengajak seluruh pendengar untuk lebih dekat dan peka terhadap alam sekitar.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Every participant involved in communication process is assumed to be cooperative so that the intentions of verbal activities can be achieved. However, in reality, sending purposes is not always conveyed straightforwardly. In practice, a person may not get to the point of the conversation where s/he is expected to speak honestly, informatively, relevant, and appropriately that are remarkably understood by the interlocutor. In terms of language, this phenomenon is known as the conversational implicature in which participants prefer to imply their extra or hidden meaning that is communicated behind utterances spoken. From that kind of phenomenon, this research aims to examine the  phenomenon in the conversation of the two main characters in the Lady Bird film by applying Grice's theory to determine the implicature form and Searle's illocutionary classification theory to determine the function of the implicatures as the main theories and the supporting theory by Hymes for portraying context of conversation which determines the factors that influence communication. This study also uses qualitative method and content analysis approach to process data in the form of dialogue to identify conversation implicatures which are categorized into two, namely generalized conversation implicature and particularized conversation implicature and the function classification in declarative, representative, directive, expressive and commissive form.Key words: cooperative principle, maxims, conversational implicature, illocutionary actsABSTRAK Dalam proses komunikasi, setiap partisipan diasumsikan bersedia untuk bekerja sama sehingga tujuan diadakannya kegiatan tersebut dapat tercapai. Penyampaian tujuan komunikasi pada kenyataannya tak selalu disampaikan secara lugas. Pada penerapannya, seseorang mungkin saja tidak langsung pada inti pembicaraan dimana si pembicara diharapkan untuk berbicara secara jujur, informatif, relevan, dan sesuai topik yang uniknya dapat dipahami dengan baik oleh lawan bicaranya. Dari sisi kebahasaan, fenomena tersebut dikenal dengan istilah implikatur percakapan dimana partisipan lebih memilih mengimplikasikan pesan mereka dengan mempertimbangkan konteks ujaran. Dengan kata lain, terdapat makna tambahan atau tersembunyi yang coba dikomunikasikan dibalik ujaran yang dituturkan. Berangkat dari fenomena itu, penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengkaji fenomena komunikasi tersebut dalam percakapan dua tokoh utama di film Lady Bird dengan menerapkan teori utama dari Grice untuk mengetahui bentuk implikatur dan teori klasifikasi tindak ilokusi dari Searle untuk menentukan fungsi dari bentuk implikatur yang telah diidentifikasi serta teori pendukung dari Hymes untuk menggambarkan konteks ujaran yang menentukan faktor yang mempengaruhi komunikasi. Metode kualitatif dan pendekatan analisis konten diterapkan dalam kajian ini untuk mengolah data yang berupa dialog untuk mengidentifikasi implikatur percakapan yang dikategorikan menjadi dua yaitu implikatur percakapan umum dan implikatur percakapan khusus dan klasifikasi fungsinya yang berupa deklaratif, representatif, direktif, ekspresif dan komisif.Kata kunci: Implikatur percakapan, prinsip kerjasama, maksim, tindak ilokusi

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pandangan dunia pengarang dalam tiga cerpen karya Okky Madasari yang dimuat dalam kumpulan cerpen Yang Bertahan dan Binasa Perlahan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian sosiologi sastra dengan menerapkan teori Strukturalisme Genetik. Metode analisis data yang digunakan adalah metode dialektik. Adapun tiga cerpen yang dianalisis memuat tema intoleransi, yaitu cerpen (1) “Dua Lelaki”, (2) “Patung Dewa”, dan (3) “Saat Ribuan Manusia Berbaris di kotaku”. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hasil sebagai berikut. Unsur ekstrinsik yang dijabarkan pada ketiga cerpen berupa latar sosial karya dan latar belakang sosial pengarang, yaitu adanya keterkaitan pengarang beserta latar belakang sejarah pada ketiga cerpen. Cerpen “Dua Lelaki” ditulis pada kurun tahun 2010 sampai 2013, menggambarkan konflik Ambon pada tahun 1999; cerpen “Patung Dewa” ditulis pada tahun 2013 merupakan gambaran peristiwa di Surakarta pada tahun 2011; dan cerpen “Saat Ribuan Manusia Berbaris di Kotaku” merupakan gambaran aksi 411 di Jakarta pada tahun 2016. Padangan dunia pengarang yang menjadi dasar terciptanya cerpen yang bertemakan intoleransi ini adalah pandangan humanisme, eksistensialisme dan religiositas. Ketiga pandangan itu adalah keyakinan pengarang terhadap kapasitas manusia sebagai makhluk yang memiliki derajat yang tinggi sebagai individu yang bebas dan merdeka.

Abstract

This study aimed to discuss derivational affixes in The Avengers movie. Derivational affixes was interesting to analyze since it has affect in forming word from simple to more complex. By using descriptive method and qualitative approach, this study has purposes to identify characteristics applied in forming derived words and dictionary information that presented from those derived words in the movie. The data source was taken from The Avengers movie script, primary data were words undergo affixation in the movie script. The characteristics of derivational was analyzed by using Brinton & Brinton(2010) theory and supported theory by Fromkin(2011) in forming derivational affixes, then the dictionary information based on Jackson(1982) and Redman(1997). The result of this study showed that there were four general characteristics applied in forming derived words. First, all words undergo meaning change and word class change or one of those two changes. Second, each prefix and suffix has meaning to indicate new meaning of the base. Third, some words undergo orthographic change when suffix attach to base and change the base form. Fourth, some words undergo phonological change when suffix attach to base and change the pronunciation of the word. Next, all words have dictionary information such as Spelling, Pronunciation, Part of speech, Etymology, Definition, Example of phrase or sentence, Word Opposite, Common Collocation, Usage and Special grammatical. The most dictionary information found are Spelling, Part of speech and Definition.

Abstract

Tradisi lisan dalam bentuk perkawinan merupakan salah satu peristiwa yang sakral dan sangat penting karena menyangkut nilai-nilai kehidupan. Salah satu adat perkawinan sebagai bentuk warisan budaya terdapat pada masyarakat suku Sasak desa Sambera Kabupaten Kutai Kartanegara yaitu adat Sorong Serah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis makna yang terdapat dalam adat perkawinan Sorong Serah suku Sasak. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam jenis penelitian lapangan dan metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang digunakan adalah data lisan. Adapun sumber data yaitu pemangku adat yang menangani adat perkawinan masyarakat suku Sasak, tokoh agama, dan para tokoh masyarakat. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian dalam pembahasan ini bahwa proses upacara adat perkawinan Sorong Serah suku Sasak desa Sambera meliputi : (1) Persiapan Arta Gegawan (seserahan nilai adat), (2) Persiapan Penampi (juru bicara pengantin perempuan), (3) Kedatangan Pisolo (petugas perlengkapan adat dan tamu), (4) Kedatangan Pembayun (juru bicara pengantin laki-laki), (5) Serah Terima Nilai Adat, (6) Megal Tali Jinah (pengesahan nilai adat).

Abstract

This research purposes to find the hero’s struggle and the hero’s journey that appeared in Arthur’s journey. In this research, the researcher analyzed one of the characters from the Aquaman movie. In specific, a character, named Arthur Curry, was analyzed through the hero’s journey theory. The data were analyzed with the hero’s struggle theory by George R. Goethals and Scott T. Allison, as a theory, and hero’s journey theory by Joseph Campbel, as another theory. The data were generated from the actions and dialogues from movie script and Arthur's struggle through his journey to become a hero. In conclusion, the research revealed that Arthur experienced all three struggles that mentioned by Goethals and Allison, those are struggle for something with reason, struggle to fight their weakness, and struggle to face the very evil. It also matched ten stages from seventeen stages of hero’s journey by Joseph Campbell and those are the call to adventure, refusal of the call, supernatural aid, the crossing of the first threshold, the belly of the whale, the road of trials, atonement with the father, apotheosis, the ultimate boon, and the crossing of the return threshold. The conclusion that can be drawn is that although there are several stages that Arthur did not go through, his struggle in the story can be considered as a hero’s journey because he succeeded in achieving his goals.

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to find the class distinction in character of Adam and Lagavulin and the alienation in character of Adam from the Upside Down movie. This research utilized the method of qualitative research with the technique of observing and used content analysis. The data sources of this research were the script and movie of Upside Down. The data were taken from the dialog of each character and some narrations of Adam indicating the characteristics of class distinction and types of alienation based on the theory of Karl Marx. From the findings of this research, the characters in the movie revealed there were 7 characteristics of class distinction by looking at two types of class, bourgeoisie and proletariat, those are brutal exploiter, the ruler, own the means of production, productive force, the oppressed class, have no means of production, the revolutionary. Also, from the character of Adam, he revealed there were 4 types of alienation with the types as follow, the alienation of the worker in his product, the alienation from the act of production, the alienation from the true essence of our species-being, the alienation of a worker from other workers.
