Abstract

This study aims to analyze Islamic Education learning with project-based learning methods and identify obstacles and solutions faced in learning. The research approach used is qualitative with a phenomenological type. Data were collected through interviews, non-participatory observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique in this study follows the steps of Data Reduction, Data Presentation, and Conclusion Drawing. The study results indicate that implementing Islamic Education learning with the project-based learning method is carried out in stages based on the principles of project-based learning, determining the main questions, project planning, making an implementation schedule, creating projects, and evaluating the results. This learning emphasizes students' active involvement in completing projects relevant to the learning material to create a pleasant learning atmosphere and increase motivation, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Some obstacles to implementing the project-based learning method are immature planning, time constraints, and difficulties in managing groups of students. To overcome these obstacles, cooperation is needed from all parties, both teachers, students, and schools. Teachers, as facilitators, can provide appropriate direction for students regarding project planning, condition learning effectively, and create a supportive learning environment.

Abstract

This study explains the role of Islamic Education teachers in efforts to shape the character of student discipline at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta. This study aimed to determine the role of Islamic Education teachers in shaping the character of student discipline and the strategies used at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta. This study is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects of the study were teachers, students, and documentation. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation research. Analysis is conducted through three main stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The study results found that Islamic Education teachers showed their roles as educators, motivators, and facilitators in shaping the character of student discipline through strategies based on Islamic values. Different from other studies that generally discuss discipline in a general context, this study highlights specific approaches such as the 3S habit (Sapa, Senyum, Salam), congregational dhuha and dzuhur prayers, and reading the Qur'an together as a method of forming positive habits. This approach instills academic discipline and builds order and good habits in students' daily lives. This study emphasizes the integration of Islamic values in educational practices, making it more relevant in Islamic schools that seek to balance academic and character aspects. Thus, this study provides a unique contribution to understanding how the role of teachers and Islamic strategies can effectively shape student discipline while also adding insight into a more contextual pedagogical approach to Islamic education.

Abstract

Problems of negative adolescent behaviour, such as violence and delinquency are influenced by internal and external factors. Moral education is considered important in overcoming this problem, but in Indonesia, it tends to be less effective because it focuses more on cognitive aspects than affective ones. KH Ahmad Dahlan's concept of moral education values that emphasise aqidah, sharia, and morals is relevant to overcome this problem. This study aims to describe the practice of the value of moral education of KH Ahmad Dahlan at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta examine its impact, and provide solutions to the problem of adolescent morality. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to understanding the phenomenon of student behaviour. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, passive participation observations, and secondary data. The data analysis used the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis method, which tested its validity through source and time triangulation. The results of this study reveal that KH Ahmad Dahlan's moral education teaches the use of reason based on monotheism to produce good behaviour, with a focus on morality towards Allah, himself, family, society, and the state. Its implementation is through programs such as congregational prayers, counselling, parenting seminars, social services, and flag ceremonies. The impact can be seen in students who are more disciplined, independent, caring, and respectful of the country. KH Ahmad Dahlan's moral education, when applied in schools, is able to suppress the problem of juvenile delinquency, and this method will be effective if accompanied by continuous implementation and supervision.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and explore the phenomenological approach in Islamic Studies from the perspective of Annemarie Schimmel, as well as her contribution to Islamic Studies. It aims to offer a deeper understanding of Islamic beliefs, practices, and spiritual experiences. The research uses a literature review (library research) with a historical figure study approach. The researcher collected data from scientific articles, journals, books, and relevant documents, which were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively using content analysis. The findings of this study reveal that Schimmel's phenomenology is an approach that seeks to understand and penetrate the essence of religion by first examining its phenomena and then delving into the deeper layers of human responses to God until reaching the most profound sacred essence of each religion the centre, the divine, or Deus absconditus. This approach aims to interpret the meaning of Islamic teachings as understood and experienced by its followers rather than based on preconceived notions or the researcher's observations. In practice, this approach employs the concentric ring model theory, which helps create a more empathetic and objective understanding of the religious experiences of Muslims. This theory can serve as a valuable tool for interfaith dialogue and enhancing the image of Islam in the Western world.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the implementation of religious moderation material in Quran Hadith learning and to understand the relationship between Qur’an Hadith learning outcomes and students' attitudes towards religious moderation. This research using a descriptive quantitative approach. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, observations, and documentation. Instrument testing with validity and reliability tests. Data analysis with prerequisite tests (normality, linearity, and homogeneity tests) followed by the pearson correlation test. This test was chosen to examine the hypothesis of whether there is a relationship between Qur’an Hadith learning outcomes and students' attitudes towards religious moderation. The findings indicate that although there is an implementation of religious moderation material in the learning process, no significant relationship was found between the learning outcomes of the Qur’an and Hadith and the religious moderation attitudes of MA Muhammadiyah 3 Ketro students. Significance value: 0.682>0.05 and correlation coefficient: 0.084 indicate no significant relationship and a very weak correlation. It is concluded that the Ho is accepted, meaning there is no significant correlation between Qur’anic hadith learning outcomes and students' attitudes towards religious moderation. The limitation of this study is that it only uses a sample from one institution, so the results cannot be generalized. The implications of this research indicate the need for the development of a more comprehensive curriculum to enhance religious moderation attitudes. The originality of this research lies in its focus on linking the study of the Qur’an and Hadith with the attitude of religious moderation in Muhammadiyah institutions.

Abstract

This research explores the use of the story of Prophet Musa and Khidr in Surah Al-Kahfi as an exploratory learning model to enhance students' critical thinking skills and religious understanding. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving various stakeholders, including teachers, students, and administrative staff. The validity of the data was ensured through triangulation and member checking, while thematic analysis was utilized to interpret the findings. The study reveals that the integration of the story into the learning process fosters an interactive environment where students engage in critical reflection and discussion. Through guided inquiry and collaborative learning, students develop their analytical skills as they navigate religious concepts in a meaningful context. This process encourages students to draw connections between their faith and personal experiences, thereby enhancing their critical thinking capabilities. The originality of this research lies in its innovative adaptation of a traditional narrative into a modern educational framework, offering insights into the practical application of Qur'anic stories in classrooms. By focusing on the process of learning rather than solely on outcomes, this study contributes to the discourse on value-based education in Islamic settings and demonstrates the potential of story-based learning to cultivate critical thinkers in contemporary education.

Abstract

This qualitative phenomenological study examines the role of SD Ulul Albab as an Islamic school in shaping the social identity of urban Muslim communities in Jember. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured, and curriculum document analysis. Using Miles' interactive analysis model and triangulation validation, the findings reveal three key aspects: First, Strengthening collective identity through structured programs (Qur’an memorisation, congregational prayers, family-based activities) that foster social cohesion, consistent with Tajfel & Turner's social identity theory regarding the cognitive-evaluative-affective functions of groups; Second, the dialectic between strong religious identity preservation and adaptation challenges in pluralistic societies, demonstrating the complexity of value internalisation according to Ellemers; Third, the potential for exclusivity as a logical consequence of intensive group identity formation, as anticipated in Tajfel's concept of ingroup favouritism. While providing theoretical contributions to understanding Islamic education as a medium for urban identity construction, the single-case study limitation necessitates follow-up comparative and longitudinal research. Practically, these findings recommend an integrative educational model that maintains Islamic distinctiveness while developing multicultural competencies as a response to the challenges of Indonesia's increasingly pluralistic urban society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse women's leadership in education as a form of cultural revolution both locally and globally. The formulation of the problem in this study is compiled using the PCC formula (Population, Concept, Context), where P (Population) refers to women leaders in education; C (Concept) is women's leadership as the main variable; and C (Context) is the social and educational conditions in the local environment (Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia) and globally (world educational activism). The approach used is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR), with a systematic search strategy through academic databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. Search results are reported using PRISMA diagrams. Nyai Hj. Masriyah Amva, the head of the Kebon Jambu Islamic Boarding School in Cirebon, West Java, as a concrete example of a local figure who promotes gender equality in the Islamic education system. At the global level, the figure studied is Malala Yousafzai, an activist from Pakistan and founder of the Malala Fund, who actively fights for women's education rights through policy advocacy and cooperation with international institutions. The results of the study show that women's leadership is able to increase inclusivity, fight for gender justice, and accelerate social transformation. Local leadership like Bu Nyai stands out in adapting cultural and religious values, while global leadership like Malala focuses on policy-based structural change. Integration between local and global approaches is believed to be a sustainable strategy to create a more equal and transformative education system.
