Abstract

In the digital era, the competition of mass media leads to the practice of media economy as well as creativity in presenting news content. On the other hand, the mass media are challenged to deal with hoaxes. This study aims to find out how the management of news production at Tempo through the CekFakta page. This study uses qualitative methods with content analysis data collection techniques and in-depth interviews. Data collection through interviews with CekFakta journalists, article documentation and literature studies since 2021. The results of this study reveal that there are three important aspects that determine news products, namely the format, quality and content leverage. In terms of format, the news on the CekFakta page has a specificity conclusion the information circulating is true or not. There are three charts that make up the body of fact-checking news, first introduction to the viral information, secondly an explanation of the method of finding the truth of the information and the third stage is conclusions related to the information being studied. Consumer can understand easily the content of the information with the guide. In terms of quality, Tempo has a methodology that becomes the basic guideline for journalists to make news. The benefit aspect is done by disseminating the news through social media. In practice, to achieve these three aspects, fact-checking journalists work with the help of tools obtained through collaboration with external participants. In the era of media industrialization, the news agency has become a company that aims to make a profit. News, as a product of mass media companies must also be designed in such a way as to generate profits. Thus, the practice of journalism must also be adapted to the times. Fact-checking journalism exists not only to improve the quality of information, but also to bring financial benefits to the company.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah Covid-19 Command Center (MCCC) is an institution established by the Muhammadiyah Central Board to become the center for handling the Covid-19 pandemic. This institution has effectively become a government collaborator in dealing with the pandemic. MCCC conducts health promotion by utilizing various media, including Youtube. This study found that MCCC has a professional standard in producing Youtube content. MCCC always conducts research before the production process. The research is conducted to determine the needs of the community. In the distribution process, MCCC tries to build interaction with the audience. Interaction is an important aspect of increasing engagement. In the end, this involvement is part of the process so that the public understands Covid-19.

Abstract

Instagram has become a social media with many users. Previous research has shown that Instagram content is often associated with learning media, promotion, entertainment, and politics. The purpose of this study is to see the relationship between Instagram content and people's digital literacy skills. Using the correlational method, the survey respondents were followers of the @jabarsaberhoaks Instagram account, which reached 59.5 thousand. The results showed two main content elements of @jabarsaberhoaks visual aspects of photos and videos, as well as textual elements that accompanied the visuals. While the themes raised consist of seven themes, namely saberinfo, saberliteration, saberbudaya, saberquote, sabertainment, saberquiz, and sabermoment.  The conclusion of this study is that hoax educational content on Instagram @jabarsaberhoaks has an impact on people's digital literacy levels.

Abstract

The Pacitan Local Leaders Election (Pilkada Pacitan) 2020 must both run democratically and prioritize the citizens’ health in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. Besides, Pacitan local online media are firstly allowed under regulations (PKPU No 13, 2020) to achieve the success of the elections. From this first-time involvement, the local online media are dealt with various interests trying to attract journalists or online media to stand with one or the other candidate pairs. To meet the purpose, the researchers employed qualitative research methods using framing analysis. In this case, Edelman framing analysis, with categorization choice by highlighting and eliminating other aspects, aims at building an opinion. In conformity with the results, the local online media are not neutral. Further, the news text framing of the online media professionalism in reporting the Pacitan Pilkada was as follows: 1) political culture in Pacitan, 2) ethical competence, 3) legal competence, 4) knowledge competence. Those competencies must be possessed by a journalist. Even more, they were carrying out political activities such as the 2020 Pilkada. The professionalism of journalists was necessarily needed, especially in Indonesia’s democratic party implementation to elect legislative and executive leaders who were truly coming from the people’s soul.

Abstract

A study on the interpretation of people's dependency behavior on digital technology, one of which is in the financial sector in daily life by adapting the theory of Media Dependency System. This article discusses the application of the theory which consists of (1) an analysis of dependence on fintech based on the social system of womenprenuers in Lombok; and (2) interpretation of media system dependency theory on fintech. A total of 108 samples from the population of womenprenuers in Lombok to test its statistical hypotheses. The results revealed there is a positive correlation between the location of the respondents, the business they were in and the financial platform used simultaneously on their dependence on fintech ecosystem

Abstract

The phenomenon of K-pop idol-roleplaying is on the rise in social media platform, particularly Twitter, among Indonesian youth. Idol-roleplaying refers to the activity where users or role-players create an account under the name and using the identity of their favorite idol, and then using it to interact with other role-players or other fans based on the image and plot that the role-player has determined. This phenomenon evokes question in regards to the identity performed by users or role-players under the veil of their idol’s identity, to the extent of how they interact with fellow role-players using that particular roleplay account. Hence, this research is significant in studying the idol-roleplaying phenomenon and the self-identity performance of fans, particularly in the context of Indonesian youth’s culture. This research is conducted with virtual ethnography method, involving eight role-players as informants. Initial findings highlight the performativity and identity play perform by role-players.

Abstract

Social behavioral change about privacy is phenomenon that we concern in internet user, especially in Anti Pelakor Indonesia (API) Facebook Group. This research studied about women managing private information in social media by observing how members of API Group interpreting of privacy and managing their privacy. This study focuses on the interactivity of members, the meaning of privacy, how manage privacy and what kind of factors make members choose to reveal their privacy in the group. Using a concept of privacy and theoretical approach to Communication Privacy Management (CPM), which is providing assumptions about the system to find out how humans balance decisions about reveal private information. Netnography method used to see virtual activities that occur in groups. The results of the study show that various factors influence the process of privacy disclosure. This research produces a description of how privacy management is carried out by the group members.

Abstract

This paper adopts grounded theory to conduct an exploratory study on the influencing factors of outdoor music festival audience's willingness to consume. First, we used 'music festival' as the search keyword to collect secondary information such as blog posts, online pictures, and news reports related to outdoor music festivals. Then, based on the previous research and the author's experience, this paper conducted ten one-on-one in-depth interviews and a group interview with the Nanjing Forest Music Festival in China as the field research object. On this basis, the article performed word frequency analysis and semantic network analysis on the text data and obtained keywords with high frequency and the core words in focus. Finally, according to the triple coding results of the grounded theory, combined with the cognitive mediation model, a model of influencing factors of the audience's willingness to consume in outdoor music festivals is constructed

Abstract

The postponement of elections became an issue that was widely discussed during President Jokowi's presidency, resulting in increased public distrust of politicians and politics itself and created political cynicism. Meanwhile, public distrust and political cynicism greatly influence public policies created by political leaders. Through discourse network analysis, this study wants to see the relationship between the discourse on postponing elections and the relationship between discourse and public policy. The novelty of the previous research on postponing elections lies in the theory of political cynicism which is very relevant in explaining the process of forming policies on this issue. This research looks at during (January-April 2022), the issue of postponing elections produces conflict discourse, this also explains that conflict discourse often occurs in controversial policies. This controversial policy conflict brought the public to a high level of distrust, directly proportional to the political cynicism that occurred. Finally, the neutral discourse that was present reminded political leaders to focus more on urgent problems because the impact of political cynicism also made it difficult for political leaders to make decisions.

Abstract

Fact-checking practices are one of the initiatives to combat the spread of hoaxes. An organization called MAFINDO is one of Indonesia's pioneers of fact-checking initiatives. Using content analysis, this research was conducted to examine fact-checked articles published by MAFINDO. We classified the results based on themes, platform, and type of content from July 2015 to July 2020, during the first five years where MAFINDO has been operating. Our study found that, the number of hoaxes being checked increased every year during the period of analysis. Secondly, political themes dominate the entire fact-checking articles verified by MAFINDO. Furthermore, the majority of hoaxes circulated and verified by MAFINDO were predominantly found on Facebook. Finally, hoax mostly found in the form of non-video images and text. This study can be seen as part of the illustrations of the spread of hoaxes in Indonesia and used as a basis for various hoax prevention movements
