Abstract

Jam'iyah Mahmudiyah Islamic College (STAI-JM) is located in Tanjung Pura, Langkat district, which has five fields of study. At this high school there has never been any training in writing scientific works, either from within the high school itself or from outside the school. One form of writing scientific works is writing abstracts. An abstract is a short summary of scientific work (such as a thesis, dissertation, or research article). The abstract is a very important part of writing scientific works. The abstract form can be packaged nicely and attractively, so that readers can understand the entire contents of the research. The aim of the community service team (PKM) program activities is to practice writing abstracts of scientific work so that students are able to create abstracts from the results of their research briefly, clearly and measurably. The approach used is to collaborate with partners, the Government and STAI-JM teaching staff with training activities and mentoring methods for writing abstracts of scientific papers. This training was considered successful in increasing partners' knowledge and skills in writing abstracts.

Abstract

Community service is a form of movement in making a real contribution to society which aims to provide solutions to real problems that occur in society. Most of the Indonesian population still relies on the agriculture, plantation and livestock sectors to drive the economy. By-products in the form of waste are generally used as fertilizer which can actually be used as an alternative energy source. Biogas is a renewable energy produced through the process of anaerobic digestion of organic materials which is currently widely used by the community as an alternative energy to replace LPG for cooking and generator fuel to produce electricity. One of the utilization of non-hazardous biomass waste into energy in the form of biogas has been implemented in Tadukan Raga village in Sinembah Tanjung Muda (STM) Hilir District, Deli Serdang Regency which has been operated since 2018 and is equipped with a barn for mushroom cultivation. However, problems arise where the facility is abandoned where there is a lack of maintenance of biogas generation facilities and mushroom barns, lack of human resources and low understanding of the community, especially BUMDes in the management, development and business maintenance of this facility. Therefore, it is necessary to provide counseling and training to the community in the operation of biogas facilities, revitalize mushroom barns in biomass non-b3 waste utilization facilities and modify LPG stoves into biogas stoves and install stoves in residents' homes around Tungkusan hamlet. Tadukan Raga Village itself is a fostered village that has been used as a place for counseling and service from the University of North Sumatra to the community because there are still several things that need to be improved, so counseling is again carried out in this village.

Abstract

The concept of innovative learning has become a major focus in today's education landscape. Innovative learning places an emphasis on relevant strategies and methods to address educational challenges. Two methods that play a significant role in innovative learning are Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Discovery Learning (DL). PBL centers on problem-solving based on real-life situations, while DL involves everyday experiences in finding solutions. At Al Ulum Integrated Islamic Middle School, the primary issue at hand is a high number of students receiving mathematics scores below the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). Contributing factors include unengaging conventional teaching methods, leading to student boredom in mathematics classes. To address this problem, the PBL and DL methods are considered appropriate solutions. Furthermore, the implementation of this innovative learning concept is supported by information technology, both visually and non-visually, as well as the use of teaching aids to aid students in better understanding mathematical concepts. The implementation of the innovative learning concept is expected to resolve the challenges faced at Al Ulum Integrated Islamic Middle School. An evaluation will be conducted, and the outcomes will be published in Abdimas Talenta and online media. These steps are anticipated to provide sustainable benefits for both students and educators at the school.
