Abstract

Education is crucial for national development, positively impacting socio-cultural, political, economic, and human aspects of nation-building. This research explores strategies to enhance effective learning among children in nursery and primary schools within Ilorin South Local Government, Kwara State, Nigeria. The study employed a descriptive survey method, involving 100 respondents from 10 selected schools. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, validated by experts with a reliability index of 0.72. The findings revealed that effective teaching methods included the play way method, educative rhymes, teacher demonstrations, and storytelling, while music was less effective. Major obstacles identified were the high cost of modern equipment, inadequate teacher training, young age of pupils, inadequate school facilities, lack of experience in handling children, poor teacher remuneration, and lack of interest from teachers. However, the lack of in-service teacher training was not a significant obstacle. It is recommended that schools be equipped with adequate facilities and employ qualified teachers. Additionally, diverse teaching methods should be used to effectively enhance learning in nursery and primary schools. Involving parents in contributing resources to school care centers is also suggested to support the development of these educational institutions.

Abstract

The research aims to describe parents' aspirations of distance learning for children during the pandemic. Aspiration shows an individual's hope to achieve something expected. Aspirations can include theoretical differences between idealistic and realistic levels of aspiration. The aspirations are parents' hopes regarding appropriate learning for their children. These aspirations include learning methods, processes, and behavior in children. The informants are parents of elementary or middle school students who learn through distance learning with consideration that students at the level still need more parental support. The research uses descriptive content analysis methods using information from parents about school learning during the pandemic in online news media between March and November 2020. The search yielded 38 relevant online news articles. Findings include parents hoping that their children will learn face-to-face at school because online learning is considered less effective. Three types of aspirations were obtained: considering distance learning less effective because schools are not ready to carry out online learning, also considering less effective because parents are unable to accompany them and accept distance learning by accompanying children to learn Working status seems less influential because some parents encourage face-to-face meetings and some want to accompany their children to study. This shows that distance learning requires the role of schools and parents to be beneficial for children.

Abstract

Using traditional game media provides several benefits in teaching and learning activities in the classroom. Previous studies found that giving English numeracy material using Dhako games was effective in increasing vocabulary but less effective in arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). This study aimed to determine the modification of the Dhako game on vocabulary mastery and arithmetic operation skills for 5th-grade students of SDN Aengdake I. The research method used was quantitative: one group pretest and posttest design with data analysis using T-Test analysis. Based on the results of the descriptive analysis, the students' mean pretest = 74.47 and posttest = 89.76. Based on the results of descriptive analysis, the students' mean pretest = 69.56 and posttest = 91.35. Thus, it could be concluded that the provision of Dhako games with a PBL approach significantly affected English numeracy skills. Based on the output table of the t-test results, the value of sig = 0.000 is obtained, which means it was smaller than 0.05. Thus Ho was rejected, and H1 was accepted, meaning that there was an effect of the Dhako game with the PBL approach on improving English numeracy skills for fifth graders at SDN Aengdake I.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of differentiated learning management at SMP Negeri 42 Pekanbaru in the context of the Kurikulum Merdeka. This curriculum was launched to address the "learning loss" due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to catch up with Indonesia's educational lag at the international level. Differentiated learning is a strategy that adjusts the learning process to the individual needs of students, taking into account their interests, readiness, and learning profiles. The research method used is a case study with a qualitative approach, involving observations and in-depth interviews with teachers at SMP Negeri 42 Pekanbaru. The results show that most teachers still experience difficulties in implementing differentiated learning according to the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education. The main obstacles include a lack of understanding of the principles of differentiated learning and limited resources. However, some teachers have successfully adapted this method and reported an increase in student learning motivation. The study concludes that further support from the government and ongoing training is needed to optimize the implementation of differentiated learning in schools. The implications of this study are expected to provide insights for the development of more effective educational policies about learning differentiation in the future.
