Abstract

The 21st century is a century that is full of challenges. Advances in technology that are increasingly developing make humans have to be ready to accept various kinds of changes. Various competencies needed by students in the current era of globalization are often referred to as 21st-century skills, and the concept of education is known as 21st-century learning. Based on the times, the current assessment refers to 21st-century learning, which is related to critical thinking, creative thinking, communication skills, and collaboration skills. The application of 21st-century learning cannot be separated from 21st-century assessment. The purpose of the study in this paper is to determine whether the teachers were familiar with and applied 21st-century learning assessment or not, especially in learning English. This research used a descriptive qualitative research method by collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that of the four 21st-century learning indicators, English teachers have started implementing 21st-century learning assessments. It can be concluded that English teachers have begun to adjust their assessment rubrics according to the indicators that exist in each type of skill possessed by students, namely critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills.

Abstract

This paper discusses (1) the role of principals in implementing school-based management (SBM) and (2) the functions, strategies, and supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of SBM. The research is descriptive. The research subjects involved the principal, head of the school committee, and the teachers at SD Negeri 007 Pangkalan Kerinci Pelalawan. Data were collected through interview and documentation methods. Checking the validity of the data used the triangulation technique. Data were analyzed using the descriptive analysis method. The research results indicate (1) SD Negeri 007 has implemented SBM and it can be seen through its independence, either physical or non-physical independence, as well as the active participation of stakeholders. Furthermore, the results imply that (2) the dominant role of the principal in implementing SBM is the managerial role because the principal can directly choose who is in the school’s organizational structure. In addition, the result reveals that (3) the school in the context of SBM is to facilitate people in the school. The people are principals as educators, managers, administrators, supervisors, leaders, entrepreneurs, motivators, and climatologists. Lastly, (4) the inhibiting factor in implementing SBM is communication that has not been applied well in the schools and the lack of socialization for the implementation of SBM. Conversely, the supporting factor comes from the active role of school residents in the implementation of SBM and the granting of great authority or big autonomy from the office to schools.

Abstract

Culture that is inherited hereditarily and takes place in certain local areas is an invaluable heritage, one of which is the weaving culture in Aceh Besar District of Aceh Province. The lack of young generation’s interest to sustain weaving activity is concerned with the existence of Aceh Songket weaving, which contains various philosophical meanings in the future. Through education, it should be a relay to maintain the culture of weaving in Aceh Province so that it becomes the identity of the Aceh people. The research in this article aims to design and determine the feasibility of the media, practicality, and effectiveness of the Aceh Songket Weaving-making textbook media integrated with local wisdom. The development of textbook media uses a 4-D development model. The results of the validity testing validated by material experts and media experts indicate a score of 91.5%, in which the considered aspects are categorized as very valid; the practicality testing indicates 80% in the practical category, and the effectiveness testing on students’ performance aspects indicates a score of 80 in the good criteria. Along with the data, it can be concluded that textbooks are feasible to use in learning.

Abstract

This paper discusses the improvement of students' critical thinking skills through the use of the problem-based learning (PBL) model. The research was conducted at class XI IPS 2 of SMA Negeri 2 Karimun. The approach used is quasi-experimental research with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Data collection techniques used observation sheets and questionnaires. Data on the suitability of the learning process with the model are obtained through observation sheets based on PBL syntax, and the level of students' critical thinking skills is obtained through questionnaires of students' critical thinking skills. Data analysis techniques used t-tests. The results indicate that the use of the PBL model can improve students' critical thinking skills. It is evidenced by the fact that after implementing the PBL model, the students' critical thinking skills increased from the medium category to the high category with a percentage of 53%. Hence, it is expected for teachers to increase the students' critical thinking skills. Thus, it can be applied through appropriate learning models, one of which is the problem-based learning model.

Abstract

This research is qualitative and involves 21 fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 6 Pempatan. Based on interviews with the class IV homeroom teacher, the minimum competency assessment (AKM) for students' literacy and numeracy requires special intervention, resulting in very low learning outcomes, particularly in science subjects. This study aims to improve students’ learning outcomes in the science topic of plant body parts. The research implements differentiated learning that accommodates three learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Data were collected through observations and interviews and analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis. The results indicate that the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 6 Pempatan improved, as evidenced by the increase in scores between learning 1 and learning 2. Moreover, the findings highlight that student-centered learning activities enhance the learning process, providing meaningful experiences and enabling students to develop values from science learning as well as Pancasila student profiles, thereby strengthening character education.

Abstract

Students’ participation in learning is the involvement of all students that is carried out responsibly to support the learning objectives. It can be seen from the indicators, such as asking questions, answering questions, doing assignments, and submitting assignments on time. However, it was found that there is a lack of participation in class XI Science students at a school in Jakarta, especially in the context of post-pandemic adjustment learning where learning is carried out offline and online. The solution implemented as an effort to optimize students’ participation in learning is through applying study in group method. The research method used is descriptive qualitative using an instrument in the form of a portfolio of Field Experience 2 Program activities consisting of observation sheets, mentor feedback, Lesson Plans (RPP), teaching reflections, and students’ assessment recaps. The research results show that student’s participation in learning can be optimized through the application of study in group method. It is seen from the several stages of its implementation, namely conveying procedures and regulations, forming heterogeneous groups with group leaders, delivering material, giving assignments and opportunities for discussion, group presentation sessions, question and answer sessions, and giving awards and conclusions. Suggestions for further research are the need to change the members in the study in group method regularly based on the topics and increase the time allocation for students to work on assignments.

Abstract

This paper addresses the issue of students’ low concentration and learning outcomes at SD Kanisius Demangan Baru 1. The purpose of the study is to improve students’ concentration and learning outcomes through a project-based learning model assisted by the game method. This research uses a classroom action research design. The research subjects were students of class 4A, and the research object was the improvement of students’ concentration and learning outcomes. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and tests, and analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results indicate that before the intervention, students’ concentration was low at 58.33%. After the first cycle, it increased to the moderate category at 69.44%, and after the second cycle, it reached the excellent category at 90.27%. Similarly, students’ learning outcomes improved from a low category average of 57.27 before the intervention to a medium category of 67.72 after the first cycle, and finally to a high category of 84.09 after the second cycle. These findings demonstrate that enhancing students’ concentration directly influences their learning outcomes, as focused attention allows students to optimize their ability to absorb and respond to the lessons learned.
