Abstract

Red chilies are one of the leading commodities in the horticultural crop subsector, and they have high economic value in Indonesia. Gunung Tujuh sub-district has the most significant harvest area and chili production in Kerinci Regency but does not yet have the highest level of productivity compared to other sub-districts. This research aims to analyze the efficiency level of red chili farming and identify the factors that influence it. The method used in this research is Stochastic Frontier Analysis with a Cobb-Douglass production function, which consists of two stages: the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method and Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE). Data was collected from 34 red chili farmers selected using a simple random sampling method. The research results show that the average technical efficiency of red chili farming in Gunung Tujuh District is 0.84 or 84%, which means that red chili farming is at an efficient level. Based on the Cobb-Douglass production function analysis using the OLS method, three factors influence red chili production: land, organic fertilizer, and the number of workers. The results of this research can provide opportunities for farmers to continue to increase efficiency by up to 16%.

Abstract

Encroachment and forest fires in Jambi Province have damaged the peat forest ecosystem. One of the peat forest areas that has experienced ecosystem damage is the Bram Hitam peat protected forest, West Tanjung Jabung Regency. In an effort to restore the peat ecosystem that has been converted by the community into oil palm plantations, planting and enrichment were carried out with the Agroforestry model. The development of an agroforestry model on peatlands is not only beneficial for restoring the ecological function of peat but is also beneficial and has economic value for communities that have joined the social forestry scheme. The purpose of this study was to analyze the income of communities that utilize agroforestry patterns in the Bram Hitam HLG. The research was conducted for 8 months from March to October 2023 at the Bram Hitam HLG, West Tanjung Jabung Regency and continued with data analysis at the Forest Management Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jambi. The results of the study showed that there were 6 (six) Forest Farmer Groups (KTH) that were the samples of this study. The various KTHs carry out agroforestry activities by planting different types of plants so that they produce different economic values received by farmers. income of ±21-29 million per hectare per year. The combination of types planted varies from a combination of 2 types to 4 types with the main crop being oil palm. Farmers' motivation in choosing plants and participating in ecosystem restoration activities with agroforestry is based on four aspects, namely product orientation where the types planted have the potential to be economically profitable, appropriate biophysical conditions, farmer knowledge of appropriate types and adequate allocation of time and labor in managing their land

Abstract

This study aims to explore more deeply how the structure and role of Buluttana customary institutions can adapt to existing social, economic, and policy changes, and find solutions that can strengthen the sustainability of their agricultural management amidst globalization and modernization. The type of research is qualitative descriptive, with a historical approach. The source of research data is primary data, namely data sourced from the results of observations, interviews and documentation from customary leaders, community leaders, and the community in Buluttana, Secondary data is data that the author obtained through reading and literature, as well as other information related to this research and using purposive sampling techniques. Data collection methods were obtained using interview methods, observation, documentation, literature studies, and the use of questionnaires. Respondents in this study were 60 farmers. The results of the study showed several substantive things, namely that the determination of planting time in Buluttana traditional farming begins with holding a deliberation, land processing is carried out by mutual cooperation using agricultural tools in the form of hoes and small tractors (dragonfly tractors), seed selection is carried out through a selection process involving traditional elders or senior farmers, Buluttana traditional communities rely more on natural fertilizers sourced from the surrounding environment, such as manure, straw ash, rotten leaves and compost that are processed traditionally, irrigation water management is not only technical, but also social and spiritual through the existence of traditional figures called pinati, determination of harvest time is based on observations of the ripeness of rice grains, which is usually carried out by experienced farmers or traditional figures and the majority of the rice harvest is stored for personal consumption where only a small portion is sold to the local market or through informal channels such as barter or sold to neighbors and relatives. The conclusion of this study is that the rice farming pattern in the Buluttana traditional community shows the full involvement of all respondents in every stage of agricultural activities as a whole..
