Abstract

This study aims to examine the intensity and patterns of mobile phone use among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Jaya Bakti, South Buton Regency, as well as to analyze the role of technology in shaping and transforming students' social behavior, encompassing both its positive and negative impacts on social interaction and the learning process at school. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design, which allowed for an in-depth and contextual exploration of phenomena in accordance with the social and geographical characteristics of the South Buton archipelago. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, with validity established through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that students use mobile phones an average of two to five hours per day, predominantly engaging with entertainment content such as games and social media, with minimal parental supervision. These conditions have had a tangible impact on the weakening of direct social interaction among students, a decline in collaborative skills, reduced social awareness, and disrupted concentration during classroom learning. On the other hand, a small number of students utilized mobile phones constructively as tools for academic information retrieval, and teacher guidance proved effective in redirecting students' social behavior in a more constructive direction. These findings have direct implications for the achievement of SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities, given that children in archipelagic regions are at greater risk of experiencing deeper social developmental disparities without concrete and structured digital policy interventions.

Abstract

Instructional media are a key element in supporting the success of the learning process, particularly in enhancing students’ motivation to learn Arabic. However, the use of limited media, such as blackboards, tends to make students bored, passive, and unmotivated during lessons. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing strip story media on improving students’ motivation to learn Arabic at SMP N 1 Hiliran Gumanti, West Sumatra. The method used was an experiment with a quasi-experimental design involving two classes: Class VIII 1 as the control group and Class VIII 3 as the experimental group. Data analysis techniques included descriptive statistics, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that the use of strip story media had a significant effect on students’ learning motivation, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), thus accepting Ha and rejecting H0. Additionally, there was an increase in the average student learning motivation from 24.48 (45%) in the “moderate” category to 39.85 (75%) in the “high” category. Thus, the strip story medium proved effective in enhancing students’ motivation to learn Arabic.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a strategic role in shaping students who are not only religious but also capable of living harmoniously in a pluralistic society. However, in practice, PAI learning often emphasizes cognitive aspects and pays less attention to affective dimensions and the development of moderate religious attitudes. This condition may lead to exclusive and less tolerant religious understanding. Therefore, an innovative approach is needed through inclusive Islamic Religious Education that integrates local wisdom values, particularly Malay Islamic values, to strengthen religious moderation. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research. The data were collected from various relevant sources, including academic journals, books, and official documents related to religious moderation, inclusive Islamic education, and Malay Islamic values. Data collection was conducted through documentation techniques, while data analysis used content analysis methods involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. This approach aims to explore concepts, strategies, and the relevance of internalizing Malay Islamic values in education. The findings reveal that Malay Islamic values such as tolerance, moderation, justice, and social harmony are highly relevant in strengthening religious moderation through inclusive PAI. The internalization process is carried out through three stages: value transformation, value transaction, and transinternalization, which effectively shape students’ tolerant and open-minded character. This approach not only impacts individuals but also contributes to creating an inclusive educational environment, strengthening social cohesion, and preventing radicalism. Thus, integrating Malay Islamic values into inclusive Islamic Religious Education is an effective strategy for developing moderate and civilized education.

Abstract

Increasingly complex environmental issues demand a shift in economic approaches moving beyond a singular focus on profit toward long-term sustainability. The concept of a green economy has emerged as a highly relevant framework for integration into the educational sphere, particularly through contextual learning. This study aims to analyze how the application of green economy principles within school cooperatives can contribute to enhancing students’ environmental awareness. The methodology employed is a qualitative approach using descriptive analysis based on literature reviews and observations of contextual learning practices. The findings indicate that integrating a green economy into school cooperative activities facilitates a more meaningful learning experience. Students do not merely grasp economic concepts theoretically but are also able to correlate them with environmental impacts in their daily lives. Furthermore, direct student involvement in sustainability-based economic activities fosters pro-environmental attitudes and more responsible decision-making skills. This aligns with the concept of sustainable education, which emphasizes the importance of instilling eco-friendly values and behaviors from an early age. Consequently, school cooperatives can be developed as effective pedagogical tools to support the sustainable cultivation of ecological awareness among students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of interpersonal communication in the social rehabilitation process at the Bekasi City Social Service Shelter. Interpersonal communication plays a crucial role in building trust between staff members, including part-time government employees (P3K) and daily contract workers (PHL), and beneficiaries known as People with Social Welfare Problems (PPKS), such as street children, homeless individuals, beggars, and other vulnerable groups. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, employing in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings indicate that the effectiveness of social rehabilitation is strongly influenced by the quality of interpersonal communication, which includes openness, empathy, supportiveness, positive attitudes, and equality. The shelter employs 18 staff members, consisting of 13 part-time P3K workers and 5 daily contract workers. The Social Service has implemented various development programs, including mental, physical, and spiritual guidance, delivered by qualified professionals. Although the service duration is set at a maximum of seven days, in practice it often exceeds this limit due to challenges in tracing personal data and identifying beneficiaries. During this process, the Social Service conducts referrals and collaborates with various institutions, including other regional governments and the Ministry of Social Affairs. The main obstacles include limited budget, suboptimal coordination, limited human resources, and communication difficulties with certain beneficiaries. Efforts to address these challenges include maximizing service delivery, strengthening collaboration, and expanding networks with relevant institutions. In conclusion, effective interpersonal communication significantly enhances the success of social rehabilitation and promotes behavioral change and independence among beneficiaries.

Abstract

Vocational High School (SMK) students' work readiness remains a significant concern due to the high rate of salary reductions and the increasingly competitive demands of the industrial world. This study focused on analyzing the influence of self-efficacy, career guidance, and communication skills on students' job readiness in the Accounting and Financial Institutions expertise program. The approach used in this study was a quantitative approach with a survey method involving 108 grade XII students at SMK Negeri 2 Semarang. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that the three variables had a positive and significant effect on students' job readiness. Self-efficacy had the most dominant influence, followed by career guidance and communication skills. Simultaneously, the three variables were able to explain 54.1% of the variation in students' job readiness. These findings confirm that job readiness is not only determined by technical aspects, but is also influenced by psychological factors and non-technical skills. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase self-confidence, optimize career guidance services, and strengthen communication skills to improve the job readiness of vocational high school students.

Abstract

Understanding scientific concepts is an essential component in physics learning, yet many students still experience difficulties in comprehending abstract concepts, particularly in wave material. This study aims to determine the effect of the discovery learning model on students’ conceptual understanding in wave material in grade VIII of SMP Negeri 5 Putussibau. The research employed a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design involving an experimental class and a control class. The experimental class was taught using the discovery learning model, while the control class used the direct instruction model. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test instruments designed to measure students’ conceptual understanding. The results of the study indicate that students taught using the discovery learning model experienced a greater improvement in conceptual understanding compared to those taught using direct instruction. This improvement is reflected in the higher N-Gain value obtained by the experimental class. The findings suggest that discovery learning encourages students to actively explore, analyze, and construct their own understanding of concepts through observation and discussion. Therefore, the discovery learning model can be considered an effective instructional strategy to enhance students’ conceptual understanding in physics learning, particularly in topics that require deeper conceptual comprehension such as wave material.
