Abstract

Learning Indonesian and English in Madrassa Ibtidaiyah often faces various challenges. Many students find Indonesian boring due to monotonous and less interactive teaching methods. Whereas English, students have difficulty memorizing and understanding foreign languages. This study aims to analyze the application of the singing method in language subjects as a deepening of students' memory cognition through material adaptation by changing the subject matter into song lyrics to create a pleasant atmosphere and stimulate students' brains to make it easier for students to remember and memorize the material. This research was conducted at MI Al-Ma'arif Karangrejo, Gumukmas District, Jember Regency. The method used in this study is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data sources were collected through observation, interviews and documentation with subject teachers, homeroom teachers and students in grades 1 and 2, other data sources were books and journals, analyzed using data reduction techniques, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study showed that the adaptation of material through the singing method was applied in the form of familiar songs such as "kring kring kring ada sepeda", "pelangi", "miss manis seorang punya", "twinkle twinkle little star", and changing the lyrics into Indonesian and English learning materials. The singing method was proven to be a learning method that was able to create a fun atmosphere, 73 out of 81 students in grades 1 and 2 were enthusiastic and active in class, and stimulated students' brains in remembering and memorizing learning materials so that daily test scores increased by 25% and the percentage of completeness scores also increased by 75%. This study contributed practically to become a reference for learning methods in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah.

Abstract

This study addresses the low engagement and suboptimal learning outcomes in Natural Sciences (IPA) among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 73 Maluku Tengah, particularly on the ecosystem food chain material, which stemmed from monotonous, teacher-centered instructional methods. The objective was to determine the effect of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model on students’ learning outcomes. Employing a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach, the research involved 25 fifth-grade students as the sample. Data were collected through pretest and posttest instruments, observations, and documentation. The analysis utilized descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, and a paired sample t-test to examine the hypothesis. The results indicated a significant improvement in learning outcomes: the pretest mean score was 61.44 with only six students meeting the completion criteria, whereas the posttest mean rose to 83.72 with 24 students achieving the criteria. The paired sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), confirming a statistically significant effect. Consequently, the application of the PjBL model effectively enhances fifth-grade students’ understanding and academic achievement in IPA, specifically on food chain concepts, by fostering active, collaborative, and project-based learning experiences.

Abstract

The process of Islam’s arrival in the Maluku Islands and Papua is a crucial element in the history of the spread of Islam in eastern Indonesia, which occurred gradually and peacefully. This study aims to analyze the routes, key figures, and social and cultural dynamics that influenced the spread of Islam in these two regions. The method employed is a literature review using a historical approach, through the analysis of various references and findings from previous research. The findings indicate that Islam began to appear in the Moluccas as early as the 13th century via trade routes involving merchants from Arabia, Gujarat, and other parts of the Indonesian archipelago. The role of kingdoms such as Ternate and Tidore proved to be crucial in accelerating the spread of Islam in the region.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the standards, performance, and discrepancies in the process of teaching nahwu at MA Ar-Risalah Padang based on Malcolm Provus’ Discrepancy Evaluation Model. This research employs a qualitative design with a case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the vice principal for the Middle Eastern division, subject teachers, and students. In addition, participatory observation was conducted during the learning process, and supporting documents were collected. Data analysis followed the model of Miles and Huberman, while data validity was ensured through triangulation techniques. The findings reveal that MA Ar-Risalah Padang exhibits several discrepancies, particularly in the dimension of teaching methods, which are still dominated by teacher-centered approaches through lectures. There is also limited student participation in the learning process, the four language skills are not consistently emphasized, and the implementation of communicative and deep learning approaches has not been optimal. The implications of this study suggest that, based on Malcolm Provus’ evaluation model, continuous evaluation is necessary to minimize the gap between standards and instructional practices. Teachers are encouraged to adopt more varied methods and media and to move away from lecture-based instruction. Furthermore, the institution should provide specialized training for Arabic language teachers.

Abstract

Hair perming is a hair styling technique aimed at creating curls or waves to enhance aesthetic value. One commonly used method is the vertical design technique, which involves wrapping the hair in a vertical direction following its natural fall. This study aims to examine the implementation process of the vertical perming technique and the results obtained in hair styling practice. The method used is descriptive observation through direct observation during the perming process. The results show that the vertical design technique produces curls that are more natural, soft, and well-directed, while providing balanced volume without making the hair appear overly bulky. In addition, this technique creates a more elegant look that aligns with modern hair styling trends. Therefore, the vertical perming technique can be used as an alternative method to achieve natural and aesthetically pleasing hairstyles.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance of natural lighting in residential houses located in Abiansemal District, Bali, by considering the influence of building orientation, opening configuration, and light distribution within the room. Natural lighting is an important aspect in improving visual comfort as well as energy efficiency in residential buildings. The research method used is a quantitative approach with descriptive techniques through direct measurements using a lux meter at three observation times, namely 08.00, 12.00, and 15.00 WITA. The data obtained were processed by calculating the average illuminance value in each room, then compared with the natural lighting standard based on SNI 6197:2020. The results showed a significant variation in lighting levels between rooms, where the living room and kitchen had an average illuminance value of 168.1 lux and 136.7 lux, respectively, thus meeting the established standards, while the front bedroom and back bedroom showed an average value of 97.2 lux and 50.0 lux, respectively, which were still below the standard. This difference is influenced by the position of the room relative to the natural light source and the type of lighting access, both direct and indirect. These findings confirm that rooms with direct openings to the outside environment have more optimal lighting performance than rooms that rely on internal openings. Therefore, designing effective openings and adjusting building orientation are crucial factors in improving the quality of natural lighting in residential homes.

Abstract

The transmission of values is an important process in Islamic education that focuses not only on the transfer of knowledge, but also on the formation of character, manners, and spiritual awareness of students integrated with local culture. This study aims to analyze the role of teachers and ulama as agents of value transmission in the Malay Islamic educational tradition. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method, through a review of various relevant literature related to the concept of Islamic education, the role of teachers, and the contribution of ulama in Malay society. The results of the study indicate that the transmission of values in Malay Islamic education is based on the integration of the concepts of ta'lim, tarbiyah, and ta'dib which form a holistic education system. Teachers play a primary role in formal education with multidimensional functions as mu'allim, murabbi, mu'addib, muddaris, and mursyid who not only transmit knowledge, but also foster the character and spirituality of students. Meanwhile, ulama play a role in non-formal education through da'wah, recitation, and role models that contribute to maintaining and developing Islamic values in the life of Malay society. In conclusion, the transmission of values in Malay Islamic education is a process involving synergy between teachers and religious scholars in shaping a generation that is knowledgeable, moral, and possesses a strong Islamic and cultural identity. Therefore, strengthening both of these agents is crucial in facing the challenges of modern development, ensuring that Islamic values remain relevant and sustainable.
