Abstract

This study was prompted by the low level of questioning skills among fourth-grade elementary school students. These poor questioning skills stem from the predominance of one-way, teacher-centered instruction; furthermore, students’ lack of self-confidence is also a contributing factor. Data from the pre-cycle phase showed that only 25.93% of students (7 out of 27 children) participated actively, while the remaining 74.07% (20 children) tended to be passive. To address this dynamic, the researcher aimed to improve students’ questioning skills through the implementation of the “Questions Students Have” (QSH) learning method. The methodology used was Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted over two cycles and involving 27 students as formal subjects. Data were collected through observation, diagnostic tests, and field notes, which were subsequently analyzed using qualitative and quantitative descriptive statistical techniques. The research results demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ questioning skills. From the initial condition (pre-cycle) through Cycle I, there was a 34.05% increase, with a classical percentage of 62.96%. To maximize these results, corrective actions were continued in Cycle II. In this final stage, the students’ mastery rate rose again by 37.04%, successfully enabling all research subjects to achieve the target of 100% classical mastery. Thus, the application of the “Question Student Have” (QSH) method is highly effective in creating a comfortable and conducive learning environment.

Abstract

This study is based on the fact that fourth-grade students lack learning media that help them understand the material on effective sentences. This is because the media used by teachers are monotonous and fail to engage students. The purpose of this study is to describe the development, validity testing, and practicality testing of an interactive Flip Flap Book learning medium based on Game-Based Learning that focuses on the material of effective sentences for fourth-grade elementary school students. This study employed a research and development approach using the ADDIE model. The research subjects involved in the pilot test included experts in the fields of media, content, and language; a classroom teacher; and 18 fourth-grade students from SDN 1 Trenceng as users. Data collection techniques utilized several instruments, including questionnaires, observations, and documentation. The media validation result reached 96.1% with a “Highly Valid” rating, the content validation reached 95.1% with a “Highly Appropriate” rating, and the language validation reached 94.8% with a “Highly Appropriate” rating. Meanwhile, the practicality test via the teacher response questionnaire yielded a percentage of 91.6% with a rating of “Very Practical,” and the response questionnaire from the 18 fourth-grade students at SDN 1 Trenceng resulted in an average percentage of 87.5% with a rating of “Very Practical.” The final results of the study demonstrate that the interactive Flip Flap Book medium, based on Game-Based Learning and designed for teaching effective sentences, is highly valid and very practical for use in the learning process at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to describe forms of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, learning discipline patterns, and perceptions of environmental support, as well as the dominant factors that teachers consider most influential in maintaining achievement motivation in the top 1–3 students of grade V at SDN Kartini in Cirebon City. This research uses a qualitative method in the form of a case study, involving twelve high-achieving students and four grade V teachers. Data were collected through motivation questionnaires, student interviews, and teacher interviews, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña with a triangulation approach of sources and techniques. The results show that both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are always present together in all students, with varying degrees of dominance. Learning discipline was found in three variants: structured-external, active learning strategy-based, and autonomous-internal, all of which are associated with consistent achievement. Data triangulation also revealed gaps between students' self-perceptions and teachers' assessments in some cases, indicating that the process of internalizing motivation is not yet fully complete at the elementary school age. Teachers identified supportive parental involvement, family learning culture, students' personal ambitions, classroom appreciation systems, and successful experiences in competitions as the key factors that help maintain students' achievement motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to emphasize a student-centered learning approach that is more responsive to current trends and the curriculum. In this context, it focuses on integrating the WordWall game with the anchored instruction model into the Merdeka Curriculum—which is based on deep learning—for elementary school mathematics lessons. This study also aims to explore the relevance, potential, and empirical basis of this integration through a qualitative descriptive literature review. Peer-reviewed scientific studies published in nationally recognized academic journals between 2018 and 2026 were analyzed as empirical evidence. The findings indicate that the WordWall game, when combined with the anchored instruction model, effectively enhances student learning outcomes and deep understanding, particularly at the elementary school level. Furthermore, the WordWall game demonstrates high effectiveness when used in conjunction with the anchored instruction model as a contextual learning tool that fosters cognitive development as well as social values such as cooperation, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship. This approach focuses learning on students in alignment with the “Merdeka” curriculum framework based on deep learning—that is, learning that is active, in-depth, meaningful, and enjoyable.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the narrative writing skills of fifth-grade students at SDN Duren Sawit 13 through the card-sort type of the Quantum Learning model. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model. Each cycle included the planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The results showed that in Cycle I, 44% of students achieved a score of ≥70 in narrative writing, with teacher actions at 85% and student activities at 70%. After improvements in Cycle II, there was a significant increase: 85% of students achieved a score of ≥70, while teacher actions reached 95% and student activities reached 90%. This improvement indicates that the card-sort type of the Quantum Learning model is effective in improving students’ narrative writing skills. This model provides students with opportunities to think creatively, discuss, exchange ideas, and develop their imagination before writing. Thus, the implementation of the card-sort type of the quantum learning model through the “Rainbow of Imagination” card game has proven to be a relevant learning strategy within the Merdeka Curriculum for improving elementary school students’ short-story narrative writing skills. This study recommends the use of this learning model as an alternative for teachers in creating an active, creative, innovative, enjoyable, and meaningful Indonesian language learning process, thereby optimizing students’ short-story narrative writing skills.

Abstract

The low level of problem-solving skills among elementary school students, along with the implementation of coding education in schools, presents a challenge to achieving 21st-century learning objectives. One alternative instructional approach is unplugged coding based on the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, which integrates problem-solving activities with computational thinking concepts without relying on digital devices. This study aimed to examine the effect of unplugged coding based on the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on elementary school students' problem-solving skills. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 38 fifth-grade elementary school students selected through purposive sampling, with 19 students assigned to the experimental group and 19 students to the control group. Data were collected through problem-solving skill tests (pre-test and post-test) and classroom implementation observation sheets. Data analysis included normality and homogeneity tests, followed by an Independent Sample t-Test. The findings revealed that unplugged coding based on the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model was more effective than conventional instruction in improving students' problem-solving skills. The experimental group obtained a mean post-test score of 85.42, while the control group achieved 63.42. Furthermore, the Independent Sample t-Test yielded a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in learning outcomes between the two groups after the treatment. Therefore unplugged coding based on the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model significantly improves elementary school students' problem-solving skills and can serve as an alternative approach to coding instruction that supports the development of 21st-century skills.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low ability of students to write advertising texts and their lack of self-confidence during the learning process. One approach to addressing these issues is the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model, which enables students to learn actively through meaningful project activities. This study aimed to determine the impact of the PjBL model on the advertising text writing skills and self-confidence of fifth-grade elementary school students in Cimalaka District. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The research subjects comprised two classes: an experimental class taught using the PjBL model and a control class taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through advertising text writing tests and self-confidence questionnaires. Data analysis involved normality testing, the Mann-Whitney U test, and hypothesis testing. The results indicated no significant difference in initial ability between the experimental and control classes; this was confirmed by the Mann-Whitney test on pretest scores, which yielded a significance value of 0.694 (p > 0.05). Following the intervention, a significant difference was observed between the posttest results of the experimental and control classes, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings demonstrate that the PjBL model is effective in influencing the advertising text writing skills of fifth-grade elementary students. Furthermore, the implementation of the PjBL model had a positive impact on student self-confidence, evidenced by increased willingness to express opinions, collaborate in groups, and present completed projects.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) on the food chain material in grade V of SD Negeri Tuak Daun Merah. The main cause is the conventional and teacher-centered learning process through lecture methods, so that students become passive and quickly bored. This study aims to test the significance of the effect of the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in improving student learning outcomes on the material. This type of research is quantitative with a pre-experimental design approach of one-group pre-test–post-test type. The study population includes all grade V students totaling 67 people. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, so that class VB, totaling 23 people, was selected as the sample. Data collection used an objective multiple-choice test instrument of 20 questions through pre-test and post-test. The instrument was declared reliable with a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.960. The data were analyzed using prerequisite tests in the form of the Shapiro-Wilk normality test with a pre-test significance value of 0.178 and a post-test of 0.116 (normally distributed), as well as the Levene Statistic homogeneity test with a significance value of 0.143 (homogeneous). Based on the hypothesis test using the Paired Samples T-Test assisted by SPSS version 27, a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.001 was obtained. Because 0.001 < 0.05, H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted, proving an empirically significant effect. The increase in learning outcomes was indicated by the average pre-test value of 58.26 which increased to 86.74 in the post-test. In addition, the results of the effect size test using Cohen's d obtained a value of 2.744, which is included in the very large effect category. These results indicate that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model not only has a statistically significant effect but is also highly effective in improving student learning outcomes in the food chain topic. In conclusion, the PBL model has a positive, significant, and highly significant effect on improving student learning outcomes in the sciences subject of the food chain. Keywords: Problem-Based Learning, learning outcomes, food chain.
