Abstract

Students' interest in reading stays low, which is a big problem in education because it can lower the quality of learning and the results students achieve. To tackle this problem, SMAN 3 Karawang started the Friday Literacy Program as a way to build a stronger reading culture and boost students' interest in reading. This study was done to explain how the Friday Literacy Program was carried out, find out what helped and what slowed down its implementation, and look at how much it helped improve students' interest in reading at SMAN 3 Karawang. This study used a qualitative method and followed a descriptive approach. The study included the school principal, teachers, and students, who were chosen using purposive sampling. Data was gathered by watching, talking to people, and keeping records. The data analysis was done using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which involves steps like reducing the data, presenting it in a clear way, and then making final conclusions based on it. The data's accuracy was checked by using different sources and different methods. The study showed that the Friday Literacy Program was carried out in a planned and organized way.It involved reading activities done before regular classes, backed by school rules, with teachers actively taking part and having access to reading materials. The program helped students develop a stronger interest in reading, shown by better reading habits, more excitement about joining literacy events, and improved understanding of what they read. The program still faced some difficulties, like students not being very motivated, not having enough interesting books to read, and not managing their time very well. So, keeping the Friday Literacy Program moving forward with new ideas and having everyone like schools, teachers, students, and parents work together really well is important to keep and improve the school's focus on reading and learning.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low levels of student activity and learning outcomes in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject among Grade VI students at SDN Kelayan Timur 2. The underlying cause was a teaching approach that remained monotonous and one-way. The objective of this study was to improve student activity and learning outcomes. This research was conducted as Classroom Action Research (CAR) in a collaborative manner across two cycles. The subjects of the study were 24 Grade VI students at SDN Kelayan Timur 2. Data collection techniques included observation, learning outcome tests, and documentation. Data analysis was performed using a descriptive-comparative approach by comparing results from the pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The results indicated a significant improvement. During the pre-cycle, student activity was only 38%, and the learning mastery rate was 38%. Following the Cycle I intervention, student activity rose to 58%, and learning mastery reached 63%. In Cycle II, student activity reached 88%, and learning mastery reached 92%. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model proved effective in enhancing the activity and learning outcomes of Grade VI students in the IPAS subject at SDN Kelayan Timur 2.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low mathematics achievement and limited active participation of third-grade students at SDN 1 Jatipuro, characterized by fear of making mistakes, lack of confidence, and teacher dominance in learning activities. The research aimed to improve learning outcomes while fostering a growth mindset, students’ courage to ask questions, willingness to attempt challenging tasks, and active participation in group discussions through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with a growth mindset approach. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection across two cycles. The subjects were 20 third-grade students in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through growth mindset questionnaires, observation sheets of students’ active involvement, learning outcome tests, and documentation, and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively.Findings revealed that the growth mindset-based PBL model not only improved students’ mathematics achievement but also strengthened growth mindset indicators, namely the courage to ask questions, willingness to solve challenging problems, and active participation in discussions. The average score increased from 77.1 in the pre-cycle to 82 in Cycle I and 89 in Cycle II, while classical mastery rose from 65% to 80% and finally 100%. Observation data showed active involvement improved from 60% in the pre-cycle to 80% in Cycle I and 100% in Cycle II. Thus, the growth mindset-based PBL model proved effective in enhancing mathematics learning outcomes while shaping students into more active, confident, and resilient learners in third grade at SDN 1 Jatipuro.

Abstract

Environmental issues have become a global concern that has attracted increasing attention across various disciplines, including literary studies. Ecocriticism has emerged as an important approach to examining the relationship between literature and the environment in order to foster ecological awareness. Poetry, as a literary genre, possesses the ability to represent the relationship between humans and nature through symbolic, aesthetic, and reflective language. This study aims to describe the representation of nature in Indonesian poems using an ecocritical approach and to analyze its relevance as teaching material for literary appreciation in Vocational High Schools (SMK). This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method through library research. The primary data consisted of fifteen selected poems by Sapardi Djoko Damono and several other Indonesian poets chosen purposively based on their ecological themes. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques and analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing within the framework of ecocriticism. The findings reveal four major forms of nature representation: nature as an aesthetic object, a source of life, a representation of the relationship between humans and nature, and a medium for conveying ecological values. Natural elements such as rain, trees, the sea, mountains, and flowers function as symbols representing perseverance, life, harmony, and criticism of environmental degradation. The study also identifies dominant ecological values, including love for nature, environmental awareness, ecological responsibility, harmony, and environmental conservation. These findings indicate that poetry serves not only aesthetic purposes but also educational functions in promoting ecological awareness. Furthermore, nature-themed poems are considered relevant as literary appreciation teaching materials in vocational high schools because they enhance students' interpretive and critical thinking skills while strengthening character education and ecological awareness.

Abstract

The rapid transformation of education in the twenty-first century demands learners who are able to think critically, communicate, collaborate, and generate creative ideas. This study used a systematic literature review to synthesise findings on the implementation of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) and STEM approaches in primary education and their contribution to developing twenty-first century competencies. Twenty-seven publications dated between 2021 and 2026 were selected from academic databases through a keyword search, screening, and eligibility assessment, then analysed thematically. The synthesis indicates that the STEAM/STEM approach consistently strengthens critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and scientific, numeracy, and digital literacy among primary school learners across various instructional designs, including classroom action research, quasi-experiments, research and development, and literature-based studies. The approach also aligns with the Merdeka Curriculum and the Pancasila Student Profile because it positions learners as active constructors of contextual, project-based knowledge. Nevertheless, several persistent obstacles were identified, namely limited teacher competence in integrating multiple disciplines, inadequate learning facilities, and rigid time management in project-based activities. This review recommends sustained professional development for teachers and policy support for infrastructure so that the STEAM/STEM approach can be implemented optimally in primary schools.

Abstract

Natural Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning in elementary schools plays an important role in supporting students’ understanding of natural and social phenomena in their surrounding environment. However, IPAS learning is still frequently presented in an abstract manner and is not sufficiently connected to students’ real-life contexts, resulting in learning experiences that are less meaningful. One approach considered relevant to strengthen contextual learning is the integration of local wisdom into digital learning media. This article aims to analyze the importance of integrating local wisdom into digital learning media for IPAS learning in elementary schools. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review of national journals, educational reference books, and curriculum policy documents published within the last five years. The findings indicate that integrating local wisdom into digital learning media contributes to improving students’ conceptual understanding of IPAS, strengthening character development, and fostering environmental awareness, while also supporting meaningful and deep learning. Therefore, the integration of local wisdom into digital learning media can be regarded as an important and relevant pedagogical approach to enhance the quality of IPAS learning in elementary schools.
