Abstract

This research is motivated by the low early literacy skills of children at Mentari Bunda Islamic Kindergarten, which is indicated by the large number of children aged 5-6 years who have difficulty recognizing letters, distinguishing similar letter shapes, and composing simple words, while learning is still dominated by conventional media such as letter cards and worksheets. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was used, involving 30 children divided into an experimental class (n=15) using Smart Adventure Box and a control class (n=15) using flashcards and worksheets. Data were collected through observation using a validated five-indicator instrument and analyzed with an Independent Sample t-test after normality and homogeneity assumptions were met. Results showed the experimental class's total score increased from 169 (pretest) to 265 (posttest), higher than the control class's increase from 141 to 212, with a significant difference between groups (Sig. 2-tailed = 0.001 < 0.05). These findings indicate that Smart Adventure Box significantly improves early literacy skills and can be recommended as an interactive alternative learning medium for early childhood education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the dual role of technology in shaping emotional bonding and parenting practices, as well as to assess the effectiveness of parental monitoring strategies in enhancing students' discipline in the digital era through a systematic literature review approach. The study employed the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method based on the PRISMA protocol. A total of 35 articles published in accredited national journals over the last five years (2021–2026) and 5 relevant national books were analyzed using thematic analysis. Data sources were retrieved from the SINTA, Google Scholar, DOAJ, and Garuda databases using the keywords digital parenting, parental monitoring, student discipline, bonding, and educational technology. The analysis revealed three major findings. First, technology functions as a double-edged sword: on the one hand, it facilitates parental monitoring, with 62% of the reviewed studies reporting improved monitoring effectiveness; on the other hand, it has the potential to diminish the quality of physical and emotional interactions when not managed with adequate awareness. Second, effective parental monitoring integrates three essential components, referred to as the 3Cs: consistency in rules, two-way communication, and strong emotional connection. Third, consistent parental monitoring makes a significant contribution to improving students' discipline, achieving an effectiveness rate of 44.1% when combined with a positive school climate (Ngulandari et al., 2024). Furthermore, the effectiveness of parental monitoring in fostering student discipline is determined not merely by the sophistication of the technology employed but rather by the quality of the pre-existing emotional bond between parents and children and the consistency of rule enforcement. Digital parenting classes have also been shown to enhance parents' competencies by up to 61%. Based on these findings, this study recommends strengthening active collaboration between parents and schools, alongside the implementation of continuous digital literacy programs, to optimize the role of technology in contemporary parenting practices.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of fifth-grade students in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject at SDN 17 Batu Gadang, Padang City. These low outcomes were attributed to teacher-centered instruction, a lack of student engagement in the learning process, and the suboptimal use of learning models capable of fostering students' critical thinking abilities and skills. The study employed a mixed-methods approach (qualitative and quantitative) using Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted over two cycles. Each cycle comprised planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were the teacher and 25 fifth-grade students at SDN 17 Batu Gadang, Padang City. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using qualitative and quantitative methods. The average lesson plan (RPM) assessment score increased from 89.25% (good) to 96.40% (excellent). Teacher activity scores rose from 82.75 (good) to 93.75 (excellent), while student activity scores increased from 86.1% (good) to 96.80% (excellent). Furthermore, the students' average learning outcomes improved from 65.71 (fair) in Cycle I to 85.46 (good) in Cycle II. Thus, the Project-Based Learning model proved effective in enhancing IPAS learning outcomes in primary school.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze student participation in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) lessons—specifically floor gymnastics—through the implementation of relay games, utilizing the Academic Learning Time in Physical Education (ALT-PE) instrument as administered by a trainee teacher from the PPG (Teacher Professional Education) program. The study employs a descriptive quantitative approach using a systematic observation method. The research subjects were 7th-grade junior high school students. Data collection was conducted using an ALT-PE observation sheet that classifies learning activities into four categories: activity, instruction, management, and waiting. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods by calculating the frequency and percentage of each activity category. The results indicate that the "activity" category accounted for the highest percentage at 43%, followed by "waiting" at 22%, "instruction" at 20%, and "management" at 15%. These findings demonstrate that relay games can enhance active student participation by providing learning opportunities through movement-based activities to a greater extent than the other categories. The implementation of relay games also supports a learning environment that is more active, enjoyable, and learner-centered, aligning with the characteristics of the *Kurikulum Merdeka* (Independent Curriculum). However, the relatively high percentage of time spent "waiting" suggests that lesson management still requires optimization—such as through game modifications, the addition of equipment, and adjustments to group arrangements—to further increase opportunities for active student learning. Thus, relay games can be recommended as an effective instructional strategy to enhance student participation in PJOK lessons.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of managerial ability, transformational leadership, and work motivation on the performance of PAUD teachers in Ciseeng District. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The study population was 167 non-formal PAUD teachers, with a sample of 118 respondents determined using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire based on a Likert scale that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was carried out through descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests, simple linear regression, multiple linear regression, partial tests, simultaneous tests, and coefficients of determination. The results showed that managerial ability had a positive and significant effect on PAUD teacher performance with a t-value of 5.928 and a significance of 0.000. Transformational leadership had a positive and significant effect with a t-value of 4.194 and a significance of 0.000. Work motivation also had a positive and significant effect with a t-value of 1.982 and a significance of 0.043. Simultaneously, the three variables had a significant effect on PAUD teacher performance with an F-value of 33.631 and a significance of 0.000. The coefficient of determination of 0.470 indicates that these three variables explain 47% of the variation in teacher performance, while 53% is influenced by factors outside the study. This finding suggests that improving early childhood education (PAUD) teacher performance requires strengthening institutional governance, inspiring and change-oriented leadership, and sustainable work motivation. The synergy of these three factors is a strategic aspect in improving the quality of early childhood education services in Ciseeng District.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of preparing Deep Learning Lesson Plans (Rancangan Pembelajaran Mendalam/RPM), the obstacles encountered by teachers, and the strategies applied in developing RPM at Sekolah Dasar Negeri 1 Sukamulia, one of the model schools for deep learning implementation in West Nusa Tenggara Province. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies of RPM that had been prepared by classroom teachers, with the school principal serving as a supporting informant. The results show that the preparation of RPM began with establishing conceptual understanding objectives, understanding CP and ATP before formulating TP, and understanding students' talents and interests, before designing learning activities that incorporate the principles of mindfulness, meaningfulness, and joyfulness. Teachers still faced obstacles in fully understanding the concept of deep learning, formulating learning objectives based on student needs, and developing appropriate assessment techniques, due to the absence of a standardized format from the central government. These obstacles were overcome through strengthening conceptual understanding, collaboration among teachers and learning communities (kombel), mentoring by the school principal as a deep learning facilitator, gradual implementation, designing lesson plans adapted to students' learning experiences and needs, and independent learning by studying RPM examples from other model schools. The results of this study are expected to serve as evaluation material for teachers, schools, and education offices in efforts to improve teacher competence in developing deep learning lesson plans.

Abstract

Language ability is one of the developmental aspects that needs to be stimulated from an early age because it plays an important role in children's communication, understanding of information, and interaction with their environment. Circle time is one of the learning activities that can be used to stimulate children's language ability. This study aims to describe the implementation of circle time, the development of receptive and expressive language ability of children aged 2-3 years, and the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation at KB-TK Labschool Jakarta. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects consisted of the school principal, the classroom teacher, and 11 children aged 2-3 years. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, with source and technique triangulation used to test data validity. The results show that circle time was implemented systematically through opening, core, and closing stages, and was able to stimulate children's receptive language in understanding simple instructions as well as expressive language in answering questions, enriching vocabulary, and forming simple sentences. The success of its implementation was supported by teacher competence, the use of appropriate media, activity routines, children's emotional readiness, and cooperation with parents, while the obstacles encountered included differences in children's language ability, short attention spans, children's emotional conditions, late arrivals, and the need for special assistance. Thus, circle time proved to be an effective learning strategy for stimulating the language ability of children aged 2-3 years.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven social media to transform from merely a means of communication and entertainment into a new learning space for elementary school children. Social media such as WhatsApp, TikTok, and Instagram are now beginning to be utilized in the learning process, both as a medium for delivering material, assignments, and a means of interaction between teachers, students, and parents. This study aims to analyze the role of social media as a learning space for elementary school children in the digital era, examine the pedagogical opportunities it offers in learning, and identify the dilemmas and challenges of supervision faced by teachers and parents. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design and was conducted at SDN Menampu 03. The research subjects included teachers, students, and parents who were selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions using triangulation techniques. The results show that social media is utilized as a learning space through various digital learning products, such as educational videos on TikTok and Instagram, discussion groups and material delivery via WhatsApp, online quizzes, and other interactive digital content. This utilization provides significant pedagogical opportunities to improve students' digital literacy, communication skills, creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning, while expanding access to learning outside the classroom and strengthening student engagement in the learning process. However, the use of social media as a learning space also presents supervisory dilemmas, particularly related to learning distractions and limited teacher and parental control. This study confirms that collaborative supervision between teachers and parents is a key factor in optimizing the function of social media as a safe, meaningful, and sustainable learning space for children.
