Abstract

This study was motivated by the fact that students’ character formation is not only influenced by the family environment but is also strongly determined by the condition of the school environment. In reality, various character-related problems are still found, including low discipline, lack of responsibility, dishonesty, and a lack of care among students. This study aimed to analyze the influence of the school environment on students’ character formation, to measure the magnitude of its contribution, and to identify efforts to build character through the school environment. This research applied a quantitative approach with a descriptive-correlational design using a cross-sectional method. The population consisted of 186 students of SMP Bina Pangudi Luhur, East Jakarta, while the sample consisted of 65 students determined through the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error and selected using simple random sampling. Data were obtained through observation, questionnaires, and documentation, then analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The results showed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), so the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected. The correlation coefficient (rxy) was 0.784, indicating a strong positive relationship, while the coefficient of determination (R Square) was 0.614, meaning that the school environment contributed 61.4% to students’ character formation, while the remaining 38.6% was influenced by other factors outside this study. Character-building efforts were realized through teachers’ exemplary behavior, habituation of positive conduct, a conducive learning atmosphere, positive teacher-student interaction, and adequate facilities. Therefore, the better the quality of the school environment, the more it will support the successful formation of students’ character.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the importance of forming santri's social ethics as an integral part of Qur'an tahfidz learning. Tahfidz activities are not merely oriented toward memorization achievement, but are also directed at internalizing Qur'anic values into santri's social behavior. In practice, however, learning still tends to emphasize memorization targets over the formation of social ethics. This study aims to describe the process of forming santri's social ethics in the tahfidz class, to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors, and to describe the implementation of santri's social ethics in daily life at Rumah Tahfidz Daarul Qur'an Wa Aimmah, Rawamangun, East Jakarta. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the foundation's management, ustadz, and santri, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was tested through source, method, time, and theory triangulation. The results show that social ethics formation occurs through the internalization of Qur'anic values, habituation of muroja'ah and sima'an among santri, and the provision of advice and supervision involving ustadz, the foundation's management, and parents. Supporting factors include the ustadz's exemplary conduct, a conducive learning environment, routine tahfidz activities, and synergy between the foundation and the family, while inhibiting factors consist of internal aspects such as laziness and fatigue, and external aspects such as uncontrolled gadget use. The implementation of santri's social ethics is reflected in humility (tawadhu'), respect for teachers and parents, discipline, responsibility, and concern for others.

Abstract

This study seeks to portray the extent to which student comprehend mathematical concepts when confronted with algebra problems set within a maritime context, focusing specifically on the topic of Three Variable Linear Equation Systems (SPLTV), and examines through the climbers category of the adversity quotient (AQ) framework. The concern motivating this investigation stems from the persistent difficulties faced by student at SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungpinang in working with mathematical notation, linking concepts to the situations described in problems, and piecing together information presented in word-based questions. Adopting a qualitative descriptive design, the study centered on two students identified as belonging to the climbers category, drawn from a group of 37 students in class X.12 through an AQ questionnaire, a written test, and semi-structured interviews; the collected data were then processed through the stages of reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results indicate that climbers student demonstrated a fairly strong and steady level of conceptual understanding, particularly in carrying out procedures algorithmically and expressing concepts through mathematical representations, such as formulating SPLTV models from maritime-related data. Even so, these students still encountered obstacles when requites to concepts in their own terms or to distinguish between examples and non-examples, as they tended to treat variables as names of commodities rather as unknown quantities to be determined. These outcomes point to the fact that a high adversity quotient does not automatically ensure equal mastery across all indicators of conceptual understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of qaulan-based educational communication in teacher-child interactions at RA Asy’ Syamsu, Bulukumba Regency, and to identify the forms of communication used by teachers to support early childhood development. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Participants included three teachers, while 12 children were observed during teaching and learning activities. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate that teachers implemented the six qaulan principles in learning activities by conveying honest information, using polite and comprehensible language, respecting children’s opinions, and providing motivation and positive reinforcement. These communication practices positively contributed to children’s language skills, self-confidence, social-emotional development, and character formation. However, implementation was constrained by teachers’ emotional conditions, differences in children’s characteristics, and limited continuity of communication between school and family. Therefore, qaulan-based educational communication can serve as an approach to creating a conducive learning environment and supporting the holistic development of early childhood.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model through a diorama project in encouraging student engagement in a Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) lesson. The research was motivated by the demand of the Kurikulum Merdeka for student-centred learning that actively involves learners, whereas classroom practice still tends to be teacher-dominated. This study aims to describe the implementation of PBL through the diorama project and to analyse the forms of behavioural, emotional, and cognitive engagement that emerge among students. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case-study design was used, and data were collected through direct observation of guided teaching practice in a fourth-grade class of 20 students at SD Negeri Trangsan 01. The results show that PBL, combined with the "Environmental Hero" diorama project, encouraged student engagement through orientation and apperception activities, problem identification from video stimuli, group investigation in constructing the diorama, presentation of group work, and closing reflection. Students demonstrated active participation, positive enthusiasm, cooperation, and critical thinking, although time management during the presentation and educational-game sessions still needs improvement. This study concludes that the PBL model through project-based, hands-on media such as dioramas is effective in fostering multidimensional student engagement in elementary science learning

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low short-story writing ability of fifth-grade students at MI Rahmatullah, Jambi City. Students experienced difficulties in determining themes, developing characters and characterization, organizing plots, determining settings, and conveying messages. This study aimed to improve students' short-story writing ability through the implementation of the Outing Class method. The study employed Classroom Action Research using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research involved 20 fifth-grade students and was conducted in two cycles. Data were collected through writing tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. Students' writing ability was assessed using five indicators: theme, characters and characterization, plot, setting, and message. The results showed a gradual improvement. In the pre-cycle, the total score was 1,350, the mean score was 67.50, and learning mastery was 30% (6 students). In Cycle I, the total score increased to 1,485, the mean score to 74.25, and mastery to 50% (10 students). In Cycle II, the total score increased to 1,585, the mean score to 79.25, and mastery reached 85% (17 students). Teacher activity increased from 55% in Cycle I to 95% in Cycle II, while student activity also improved. These findings indicate that the Outing Class method provides direct learning experiences that help students generate ideas, develop story elements, and transform observations into short stories. Therefore, Outing Class can be used as an alternative method for improving short-story writing ability in elementary and madrasah education.
