Abstract

Students' creative thinking skills are currently generally inadequate because the teaching methodology in many elementary schools does not support the development of these abilities. This study aims to examine how the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach affects the creative thinking skills of students at Mergosono 2 Elementary School. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 20 students from the experimental class with the STEAM approach and 22 students from the control class with the expository approach. Pretest-posttest essay questions were used to collect data, and an independent t-test was used for data analysis. The results showed a value (sig. 2-tailed) with a total of (0.000) < 0.05, which means that the STEAM approach has an impact on students' creative thinking skills. The average score for the posttest of the experimental class, which used the STEAM approach, was 51.95, while the average score for the posttest of the control class, which used the expository approach, was 35.59.

Abstract

This research aims to develop and implement an interactive digital media based on Canva to improve the narrative text comprehension of third-grade elementary school students. The background of this study is the lack of interactive media used in Indonesian language learning, which makes students less motivated and causes difficulties in understanding narrative texts. This research used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, including Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The product developed is an interactive media integrating images, animations, narration, and interactive exercises. The media was validated by material, media, and language experts and tested on 20 students at SDK Harmoni Kupang. Data collection techniques included observation, questionnaires, and pretest-posttest. The results showed a significant increase in students' understanding of narrative text. The average pretest score was 59, while the posttest average rose to 82.5, with an N-Gain score of 0.57 (moderate category). Statistical analysis indicated that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous, and there was a significant linear relationship between media use and learning outcomes. The media not only improved students' comprehension of narrative texts but also increased learning motivation, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the dominant types of Multiple Intelligences in class X-B students of SMAN 6 Bone based on Howard Gardner's theory. Using a non-statistical quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected through a Google Form-based questionnaire with a Likert scale of 1–3 and analyzed by calculating the scores and percentages of each type of intelligence. The study subjects were 30 students. The results showed that interpersonal intelligence was the most dominant type, followed by intrapersonal and verbal-linguistic intelligence. These findings reflect the condition of adolescent social development and demonstrate the importance of a collaborative learning approach. This study provides recommendations for teachers and counselors to design educational strategies that are appropriate to students' dominant potential and support their future career planning.

Abstract

This study attempts to uncover the semantic meaning of the term "Horas" as a symbol of the cultural identity of the Batak Toba people. The context of this study began with concerns about the declining awareness of the younger generation about the cultural meaning contained in traditional greetings. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach using semantic analysis techniques that combine structural semantics and ethnolinguistic perspectives. Data were collected through comprehensive interviews with traditional spokespersons, supplemented by analysis of literature and cultural media. The findings of the study indicate that the term "Horas" not only signifies safety and well-being in the lexical sense, but also carries contextual meanings as prayers, blessings, spiritual support, and representations of social relationships. In various customary settings such as marriage, migration, death, and social events, "Horas" functions as a representation of noble values such as solidarity, respect, and family. The findings of this study emphasize that maintaining the important meaning of "Horas" is very important in order to uphold the cultural identity of the Batak Toba people and must be integrated through education and adaptive cultural media for future generations.

Abstract

In soccer, the ability to kick on goal is a fundamental skill that significantly determines the effectiveness of an attack. This study aims to determine the effect of moving and fixed ball kick training on goal kicking skills in RBS Soccer School players. This study used an experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 34 players aged 13–15 years, divided into two experimental groups. The first group received moving ball kick training, while the second group received fixed ball kick training, each for 16 training sessions. Data were collected through observation and skill tests, and analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and paired sample t-tests. The results showed that moving ball kick training significantly improved goal kicking results compared to fixed ball training. The average post-test score for the moving ball group (10.20) was higher than that for the fixed ball group (9.00), with kicking performance improvements of 50% and 47.5%, respectively. Thus, moving ball kicking practice is more effective in improving goal-kicking skills in RBS Soccer School players.

Abstract

Elementary school students generally have a low level of scientific attitude, often preferring to accept information without questioning or analyzing it. This study aims to explore whether using a guided inquiry-based learning approach can improve the scientific attitudes of fourth-grade students when learning about plant body parts at SDN Mergosono 02. The guided inquiry method encourages students to actively engage in discovering knowledge through structured topics, with the teacher acting as a guide. Scientific attitudes are important for developing students' character and critical thinking during learning. The research uses a quasi-experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group approach. The sample was selected using saturation sampling, where all students in class IV B, consisting of 21 students, were the experimental group using the guided inquiry model, while class IV A, with 20 students, served as the control group following traditional direct instruction. Data was collected through a scientific attitude questionnaire completed by students and observations made by an observer. The analysis, using an independent sample t-test, showed significant results with a p-value of 0. 001, which is less than 0. 05 at the 5% significance level. The experimental group had an average score of 86. 19, while the control group scored 77. 05. This means the null hypothesis was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis was accepted, showing that the guided inquiry learning model positively impacts students' scientific attitudes when studying plant body parts in fourth grade at SDN Mergosono 02.

Abstract

The low critical reading skills are the main background of this research, especially in expository texts and the inaccurate use of learning methods. As an alternative to improve critical reading skills, the SQ3R method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) is the best method chosen because it actively involves students during implementation so they can understand what has been read. This study aims to determine the effect of the SQ3R learning method on students' critical reading skills in expository texts. This research design uses a quantitative research type with a quasi-experimental research method. Non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design was chosen as the research design by involving two classes, namely the experimental class (class V A students) and the control class (class V B students) at SDN Dukuh Menanggal 01/424 Surabaya. Data were collected through the results of the pre-test and post-test which included 10 essay questions. The analysis techniques used were normality test, homogeneity test, and Independent Sample T-Test based on SPSS 25. The study resulted in a statement that the SQ3R learning method has an influence on students' critical reading skills with 0.000 <0.605 as a demonstration of significance value. Comparison of posttest scores between the experimental class with a value of 73.26 while the control class was 47.5 resulting in a difference of 25.76, it can be proven that there is an influence of the SQ3R learning method on critical reading skills of expository texts of fifth grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Many elementary students still struggle to write procedure texts due to limited experience, making them unfamiliar with appropriate text structures and formats. Additionally, the use of less effective learning models contributes to their inability to produce grammatically correct and well-structured texts to clearly convey procedures. This research aims to examine the impact of the Pair Check learning model on fourth-grade students’ ability to write procedure texts. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The population consisted of fourth-grade students at SDN Dukuh Menanggal 01/424 Surabaya, with 49 students from classes IV A and IV B selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via pretests and posttests, then analyzed using an independent samples t-test. The results revealed a significant influence of the Pair Check model on students' writing skills, supported by a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). Furthermore, the experimental class showed an increase in the average score from 41 (pretest) to 53.57 (posttest), marking a 12.57-point improvement.
