Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to examine psychological skills and post-traumatic growth (PTG) among athletes experiencing chronic sports injuries. A mixed-methods design was employed involving 95 athletes from various sports. Quantitative data were collected using the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) and the Psychological State Inventory for Sports (PSIS), while qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. The results indicated that athletes with chronic injuries maintained moderate to high levels of psychological skills, with motivation and self-confidence emerging as dominant components. Athletes also reported meaningful levels of PTG, particularly in the domain of relating to others. Correlational analysis revealed a very strong positive relationship between psychological skills and PTG. Qualitative findings further showed that acceptance, social support, and positive meaning-making played a crucial role in psychological adaptation. These findings suggest that chronic sports injury does not inevitably result in psychological decline, but may serve as a context for psychological growth when supported by adequate mental skills and a supportive social environment. Conclusion, The results of this study indicate that athletes who experience chronic sports injuries are able to maintain adaptive psychological function and show significant post-traumatic growth. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of two training models, distance to distance and interval with mini hurdle, in improving the speed and endurance of middle-distance runners. The main problem addressed is the need for a training approach capable of simultaneously optimizing speed and endurance performance through the integration of physiological and biomechanical components. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest two group design. The subjects were 15 male middle-distance athletes (800–1500 m) randomly divided into two groups, each undergoing an eight-week training program with a frequency of three sessions per week. Measurements were conducted using a 30-meter sprint test (speed) and a 1600-meter run test (endurance). Statistical analysis showed that both training models significantly improved speed and endurance variables (p < 0.05). The interval with mini hurdle group demonstrated a higher improvement in speed (10.5%) with a large effect size (d = 1.45), while the distance to distance group achieved a 7–8.5% improvement in endurance. A significant difference between groups was found in the speed variable (p = 0.034; d = 0.91). The study concludes that both training models effectively enhance athlete performance, with interval with mini hurdle being superior in developing speed through neuromuscular stimulation, whereas distance to distance focuses more on improving aerobic endurance. Conclusion, these findings provide a scientific basis for coaches to design evidence-based, efficient, and measurable training programs. Keywords: interval training, speed, endurance, middle-distance running.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of arm muscle strength training on upper passing ability in volleyball games. The research method used an experiment with a pretest-posttest design. The research sample was 15 male volleyball extracurricular students at SMAN 1 Fatuleu Barat using total sampling technique. The research instrument was a test and measurement of upper passing ability, with criterion validity based on predetermined standards. The results showed that there was an increase in the average upper passing score from the pretest of 40.93 to 50.07 in the posttest, with a difference of 9.14. In addition, the statistical test results showed a significance value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is smaller than the significance level of 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. These findings suggest that arm muscle strength training contributes to improving upper passing skills by improving players' propulsion and movement stability. This study provides important implications for volleyball coaches and extracurricular coaches in designing more effective and evidence-based training programs to improve player performance. Thus, arm muscle strength training can be used as one of the recommended training methods to improve the quality of the upper passing technique in volleyball games. Abstract

This study aims to analyze differences in students' physical activity and mental health based on school location, namely rural and urban areas. The study used a quantitative approach with a comparative design. Physical activity data were collected using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Children (PAQ-C), while mental health was measured using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Before inferential analysis was conducted, the data were tested for parametric statistical assumptions through normality tests and homogeneity of variance tests. The Shapiro–Wilk test results showed that the data were normally distributed, while the Levene test showed homogeneous data variances. The analysis results using the Independent Samples T-test showed that students in rural areas had higher levels of physical activity than students in urban areas, and this difference was statistically significant. In addition, the t-test results on mental health scores showed a difference between students in urban and rural areas with a significance value of 0.050. Thus, it can be concluded that there are differences in physical activity and mental health of elementary school students based on school location. Rural areas show more supportive conditions than urban areas. This finding highlights the importance of contextual school education and health policies according to environmental characteristics to optimize student well-being.
