Abstract

This study aims to analyze differences in athletes' mental toughness based on gender and sports characteristics. The study used a quantitative approach with a comparative design. The participants consisted of 230 athletes from various sports with the characteristics of Game Sports, Accuracy, and Martial Arts. The instrument used was the Indonesian version of the SMTQ, consisting of 14 items across three dimensions: confidence, constancy, and control. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U Test and differences based on sports characteristics were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test; all data processing was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software. The results showed that: (1) there were significant differences based on gender in the confidence and control dimensions and in the total mental toughness score, with male athletes obtaining higher scores of 124.93 (confidence), 126.95 (control), and 124.98 (mental toughness score); (2) no significant difference was found in the constancy dimension based on gender; (3) based on sport characteristics, significant differences were found in the constancy dimension and total mental toughness score, with martial arts athletes showing higher scores than accuracy and game-sport athletes; and (4) the confidence and control dimensions did not show significant differences based on sport characteristics. Although the differences were statistically significant, the small effect sizes indicate that the contribution of gender and sport characteristics to the variation in mental toughness is relatively limited. Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the association between exercise identity, self-control, and cognitive flexibility, while also evaluating the predictive role of exercise identity on both psychological outcomes among sport students. A quantitative non-experimental study with a correlational design was conducted involving 124 sport students selected through purposive sampling. Participants met the inclusion criteria of being actively engaged in structured sports activities at least two to three times per week. Data were collected using three standardized instruments: the Exercise Identity Scale (EIS), the Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS), and the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI), all of which have demonstrated satisfactory validity and reliability in previous studies. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality testing, Spearman correlation analysis, and simple linear regression. The results revealed that exercise identity was positively and significantly associated with both self-control (ρ = 0.311, p < .001) and cognitive flexibility (ρ = 0.408, p < .001). Regression analysis further showed that exercise identity explained 14.4% of the variance in self-control (R² = .144, p < .001) and 12.2% of the variance in cognitive flexibility (R² = .122, p < .001). Overall, the findings suggest that students with a stronger exercise identity tend to exhibit higher levels of self-control and cognitive flexibility. However, these psychological outcomes are also likely to be influenced by other factors beyond the scope of the present study. Therefore, future research is encouraged to incorporate additional psychological and contextual variables to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of the factors associated with self-control and cognitive flexibility among sport students. Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes of volleyball underhand passing skills caused by differences in student abilities that have not been fully accommodated in the learning process. The study aims to determine efforts to improve learning outcomes in volleyball underhand passing skills through the application of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach. The study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, implemented in two cycles with the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 36 eighth-grade students of YASPRI MARIPARI Sukawening Junior High School. The research instrument used the AAHPER Face Wall-Volley Test to measure underhand passing skills. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and the N-Gain test. The results showed an increase in learning outcomes in each cycle. The average student score increased from 8.58 in the pretest to 9.97 in Cycle I and 11.67 in Cycle II. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant improvement in learning outcomes. Learning effectiveness was also demonstrated by the N-Gain value of 0.4449, categorized as moderate. The learning completion percentage increased from 19.4% in the initial conditions to 88.9% in Cycle II. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach is effective in improving learning outcomes in volleyball underhand passing skills through learning tailored to the students' ability levels, making the learning process more adaptive and able to accommodate differences in ability within the class. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of physical fitness and healthy lifestyle on the performance of Indonesian Navy Frogman personnel. The study employed a quantitative causal-associative approach using path analysis and regression with SPSS. The research sample consisted of 20 active Frogman personnel from Indonesian Navy Fleet Command 1 selected through purposive sampling. Physical fitness data were obtained from official Navy physical readiness test documents, including the 12-minute run, pull up, sit up, push up, and shuttle run. Healthy lifestyle data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire, while performance data were obtained from direct supervisor assessments. The results showed that physical fitness did not significantly affect personnel performance, with a significance value of 0.363 > 0.05. Healthy lifestyle also did not significantly affect personnel performance, with a significance value of 0.094 > 0.05. Simultaneously, physical fitness and healthy lifestyle did not significantly affect Frogman personnel performance, with an F value of 1.187 and a significance value of 0.346 > 0.05. The coefficient of determination was 0.182, indicating that both variables explained only 18.2% of the variation in performance, while 81.8% was influenced by other factors. The study concludes that physical fitness and healthy lifestyle were not dominant factors affecting personnel performance in the research sample; therefore, other factors such as operational experience, work environment, training intensity, motivation, and rest patterns should be considered in future studies. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the muscle oxygen saturation (SmO₂) profile of badminton athletes using the Moxy Monitor, to examine its relationship with the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems, and to evaluate its potential as a basis for designing physical conditioning programs. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational method involving 10 badminton athletes from PB Mutiara Cardinal Bandung, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through SmO₂ measurements using the Moxy Monitor during physical testing, along with physical condition measurements based on biomotor parameters. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Pearson correlation, simple linear regression, multiple linear regression, and path analysis. The results showed that the SmO₂ Ratio had a significant relationship with aerobic capacity (r = 0.766; p = 0.010) and physical condition (r = 0.727; p = 0.017), but no significant relationship with anaerobic capacity (r = 0.361; p = 0.305). Aerobic capacity had a very strong relationship with physical condition (r = 0.966; p = 0.000), while anaerobic capacity also showed a significant relationship (r = 0.810; p = 0.004). These findings indicate that an SmO₂-based energy system profile can be used as a physiological indicator for designing more precise physical conditioning programs based on the individual needs of badminton athletes. Abstract

This study aims to determine students' perceptions of the implementation of extracurricular sports activities at SMAN 5 Sukabumi City. This study is important because it provides an overview of the quality of extracurricular sports implementation from the students' perspectives as a basis for evaluating and improving the quality of the program at the school. In addition, this study fills a research gap due to the limited research that specifically examines students' perceptions of the implementation of extracurricular sports at SMAN 5 Sukabumi City based on aspects of materials, facilities and infrastructure, and attention during the activity. The method used is a quantitative approach with a descriptive design. The research sample consisted of 116 students who are active in extracurricular sports activities selected using a total sampling technique. The research instrument was a validated Likert-scale closed questionnaire and covered three indicators: implementation of training, facilities and infrastructure, and student attention. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics by calculating the average and percentage. The results showed that 79.90% of respondents' answers were included in the positive category, while 20.10% were included in the negative category. The three factors measured, namely materials, facilities and infrastructure, and attention, all showed positive perceptions from students. The conclusion of this study is that the implementation of extracurricular sports activities at SMAN 5 Kota Sukabumi was positively assessed by students and was able to support the development of sports skills, discipline, cooperation, and social interaction. The implications of this study are expected to provide evaluation material for schools in improving the quality of coaching, provision of facilities and infrastructure, and management of extracurricular sports programs on an ongoing basis. Abstract

This study aimed to describe the level of physical activity and sedentary behavior among elementary school students in Bandung City. The study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive survey design. The sample consisted of 117 elementary school students selected using cluster sampling with a purposive approach. Physical activity was measured using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Children (PAQ-C), while sedentary behavior was assessed using the Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ). In addition, nutritional status was identified using the Body Mass Index-for-Age (BMI-for-Age) indicator based on the WHO Growth Reference 5–19 Years. Data were analyzed descriptively using mean, standard deviation, frequency, and percentage. The results showed that students' physical activity level was categorized as moderate, with a mean PAQ-C score of 2.91. The average sedentary behavior duration was 688.74 minutes per day, or approximately 11.48 hours per day. The most dominant sedentary activity was watching television or using a mobile phone (1,349.02 minutes/week), followed by sitting and chatting (566.58 minutes/week) and using a computer or laptop for entertainment (556.99 minutes/week). Based on BMI-for-Age nutritional status, most students were classified as having normal nutritional status (61.5%), although overweight (22.2%) and obesity (8.5%) were still observed. Male students demonstrated higher physical activity levels than female students, whereas female students and 12-year-old students exhibited higher sedentary behavior durations. This study concludes that elementary school students in Bandung City have a moderate level of physical activity but are accompanied by high sedentary behavior and a considerable proportion of students with excess nutritional status. Therefore, efforts to improve children's health should focus not only on increasing physical activity but also on reducing sedentary behavior to support optimal health and nutritional status among school-aged children.
