Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationships between exercise frequency and sleep duration with cognitive inhibition and information processing speed among sport science undergraduates. A cross-sectional design was employed involving 45 sport science undergraduates (28 males, 17 females; mean age 19.62 ± 0.72 years; mean BMI 21.79 ± 2.49 kg/m²). Exercise frequency (sessions/week) and sleep duration (hours/night) were self-reported. Neurocognitive function was assessed using the Stroop Color-Word Test (inhibitory control) and the Trail Making Test (processing speed). Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression analyses were used to determine the associations. The results showed that: (1) exercise frequency had a significant positive correlation with Stroop scores (r = 0.545, p < 0.001); (2) sleep duration was significantly correlated with both Stroop scores (r = 0.479, p = 0.001) and TMT performance (r = -0.356, p = 0.016); (3) exercise frequency and sleep duration jointly explained 29.3% of the variance in inhibitory control (R² = 0.325, R²adj = 0.293); and (4) both variables explained 9.0% of the variance in processing speed (R² = 0.132, R²adj = 0.090). It can be concluded that exercise frequency and sleep duration are positively associated with cognitive inhibition among sport science undergraduates, while sleep duration alone predicts processing speed. These findings support the integration of sleep hygiene education and structured exercise programs into sport science curricula to optimize students' neurocognitive performance. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the influence of hydration status (HS) and the exercise-induced muscle oxygen desaturation ratio (SmO2 Ratio) on physical performance, represented by VO2Max, in adolescent badminton club athletes. Method: A quantitative correlational approach with multiple linear regression and path analysis was used. Ten adolescent athletes (aged 12–15 years) from PB. Mutiara Cardinal Bandung participated as research subjects, selected through purposive sampling. Hydration status was measured post-exercise using a Tanita Body Composition Analyzer (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis/BIA), while muscle oxygen desaturation was monitored in real time using a Moxy Monitor (Near-Infrared Spectroscopy/NIRS) during a standardized Beep Test. Data were analyzed using correlation, regression, and path analysis. Results: Hydration status showed no significant relationship with either the SmO2 Ratio (r = -0.302, p = 0.396) or VO2Max (r = -0.240, p = 0.505). In contrast, the SmO2 Ratio showed a very strong and significant correlation with VO2Max (r = 0.859, p = 0.001), explaining 73.8% of its variance. Path analysis showed that hydration status influenced VO2Max mainly through the SmO2 Ratio. Muscle oxygen utilization efficiency, as measured by the SmO2 Ratio, is the dominant physiological determinant of aerobic performance in adolescent badminton athletes, surpassing the contribution of hydration status when athletes maintain normal hydration levels. These findings support the integration of NIRS-based monitoring into badminton training practice. Keywords: Badminton, Muscle Oxygen Desaturation, Athletic Performance, Hydration Status, VO2max

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the physical fitness levels of 10th-grade high school students in the Bekasi Utara Subdistrict using the TKPN (Tes Kebugaran Pelajar Nusantara) instrument. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of tests and measurements. The population consisted of 10th-grade students from SMAN 4 Bekasi, SMAN 20 Bekasi, and SMAN 14 Bekasi. The sampling technique used was proportionate stratified random sampling with a total sample of 100 students. The research instrument used was the TKPN (Tes Kebugaran Pelajar Nusantara), which includes Body Mass Index (BMI), V-Sit and Reach, 60-second Sit-Up, 30-second Squat Thrust, and PACER test measurements. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics in the form of percentages. The results showed that most students were in the poor category with 93 students (93%), followed by the fair category with 6 students (6%), and the very poor category with 1 student (1%). No students were classified into the good or excellent categories. The BMI results indicated that the majority of students were in the normal category with 77 students (77%), mildly underweight with 6 students (6%), severely underweight with 3 students (3%), mildly overweight with 5 students (5%), and severely obese with 9 students (9%). Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the physical fitness levels of 10th-grade high school students in the Bekasi Utara Subdistrict are still relatively low, although most students have normal nutritional status. Therefore, increased physical activity and more structured sports programs are needed to improve students' physical fitness levels. Abstract

Monitoring physiological responses in badminton athletes remains challenging because conventional methods are often unable to provide real-time information regarding local muscle oxygen utilization and fatigue development. This study aimed to examine the relationships among muscle oxygen saturation ratio (SmO₂ Ratio), Fatigue Index, and maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂Max) in badminton athletes using real-time muscle oxygenation monitoring. A quantitative correlational design was employed involving 10 competitive badminton athletes from PB Mutiara Cardinal, Bandung, Indonesia. Muscle oxygen saturation was measured using the MOXY Monitor based on Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) technology, Fatigue Index was assessed through the Running Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST), and VO₂Max was estimated using the 20-meter Multistage Shuttle Run Test. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, simple linear regression, multiple linear regression, and path analysis. The results showed that (1) SmO₂ Ratio was not significantly related to Fatigue Index (r = 0.463, p = 0.177); (2) SmO₂ Ratio was significantly associated with VO₂Max (r = 0.859, p = 0.001), explaining 73.8% of its variance; (3) Fatigue Index was also significantly related to VO₂Max (r = 0.763, p = 0.010); and (4) SmO₂ Ratio and Fatigue Index jointly explained 90.8% of the variance in VO₂Max. It can be concluded that SmO₂ Ratio is a strong physiological predictor of aerobic capacity and that real-time MOXY monitoring provides a practical approach for evaluating physiological status and supporting performance optimization in badminton athletes. Abstract

This study aims to explore the subjective experiences, phenomenological meanings, and motives for the involvement of the people of Bandung City in the sport of padel. Using a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, this study involved 50 informants consisting of 20 active players, 10 coaches, 10 field managers, and 10 non-participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, passive participatory observation, and digital documentation studies, then analyzed using NVivo software through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding stages. The study found four main findings: (1) The construction of meaning of padel is formed through four dimensions health, recreation, social space, and urban lifestyle identity; (2) Players lived experience is built through a process of social introduction, regular playing routines, community interaction, and internalization of padel as a lifestyle; (3) Involvement is driven by because motive (social homophily and FOMO) that transitions into in-order-to motive (networking, health, personal branding); (4) There are massive symbolic consumption practices and social distinctions that create upper-middle-class exclusivity. It is concluded that padel in Bandung City is not merely a temporal sports trend, but rather an arena of lifestyle commodification that reproduces the social boundaries of urban communities.
