Abstract

This research aimed to investigate an evaluation of an EFL textbook for senior high school students entitled “Functional English for Senior High Schools” written by Sugeng and Zaimah (2007). The book was published in 2007 by Tiga Serangkai Pustaka Mandiri, Solo. The researchers used a qualitative evaluation checklist, namely “Evaluation of the Fit” by Byrd et al. (2001) by evaluating the fitness of textbooks through three aspects: curriculum, students, and teachers. The evaluation results are: (1) considering the curriculum aspect, the book was categorized as a good fit, (2) considering the fitness of the book with the students’ needs. It was categorized as a good and adequate fit. However, (3) considering the teachers’ aspect, the book was considered a poor fit because it was not completed with supplementary teaching materials, such as cassettes or CDs and manual supports for teachers. The conclusion showed the textbook was categorized as an adequate fit for the curriculum, students, and teachers, and it needed manual and technological support for a more beneficial function.

Abstract

E-learning is an application of information technology in education. Students could communicate at any time and location because digital learning resources were distributed and accessible via the network. This research was to investigate the extent to which students are prepared to participate in e-learning. The research methodology employed was descriptive quantitative. The research sample consisted of 62 students of the English Education Study Program ITP Markandeya Bali. Students answered 27 points of questionnaires based on evaluation models Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP). The distribution of data acquisition was repeated to ensure data consistency. Students’ readiness to participate in e-learning was measured using the CIPP model, with the following results: (1) Context aspects of 84.675% (High), (2) Input aspects of 83.86% (High), (3) Process aspects of 90.6% (Very High), and (4) Product aspects of 91.4% (Very High). Some recommendations are added to this research.

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning is an essential ability that must be possessed by students when studying at university or in real life. Mathematical reasoning ability is one of the material sub-topics tested in the 2019 computer based written exam. In solving mathematical reasoning content questions, students often make mistakes in answering questions. The mistakes made by students occur due to various factors. Therefore, this research aimed to describe student errors and the factors that caused student errors in solving computer based written exam questions on the topic of mathematical reasoning according to Newman's theory. This research used a mixed method with 28 class XII students as the research subjects. The research instruments were written tests and interviews. The factors that caused reading errors were because students could not interpret the questions properly, misunderstandings occurred because students could not determine the necessary information in the problem, transformation errors occurred because students could not determine the correct method to solve the problem, process skill errors occurred because students were less thorough in solving questions and because of previous mistakes, mistakes in writing the final answer occurred because students were not used to writing conclusions and also because they were in a hurry.
