Abstract

Research on classroom discussions and dialogues is well-established, however, studies on how classroom dialogue is facilitated in online classrooms remain underexplored. This qualitative case study addresses this gap by examining the experiences of an EFL teacher educator and her 16 students during a twelve-week enacting dialogic pedagogy mediated by Microsoft Teams (MT). Utilizing thematic analysis from thirteen video recordings, four discussion forums, three series of teacher interviews, student feedback, and researchers' observations, the study revealed that the classroom dialogue was facilitated in MT by structuring the online environment, enhancing synchronous video conferencing through ‘meet now,’ extending dialogue through chat-based learning in ‘channel,’ and enriching interaction with multimodal cues. The study suggests that while digital technologies can enhance dialogic activities, it is crucial for teachers and students to enhance and maintain their dialogic stance and digital competence in online classrooms.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out what problems English teachers had in teaching English as local content at primary school and how these problems were addressed. The research employed a case study design grounded in qualitative methods. The participants were four English teachers at two different public primary schools in the subdistrict of Prabumulih Timur. Research data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. In analysing the collected data, percentage analysis was used for questionnaires and thematic analysis for interviews and observations. The questionnaire’s results revealed a number of noteworthy findings, such as the lack of technological knowledge among some teachers and the students' perception of elementary school textbooks as excessively difficult and boring. Interviews and observation also uncovered other difficulties, including work load, time constraints, classroom management, technology use, teaching administration, and the complexity of the topic. These results suggest that in order for EFL teachers to successfully teach English in public elementary schools, they must have techniques to deal with every issue that arises. To help instructors teach as effectively as possible, the government must strike a balance between the amount of time allotted for studying English at SDN/MIN and the subject matter that needs to be covered.

Abstract

In the 3T, Tertinggal, Terluar, Terdepan (Lagging, Outermost, and Frontier) areas, many obstacles and difficulties are faced by educators in Indonesia concerning human resources, infrastructure, and the environment. This study aims to explore how civil servant teachers of English survive teaching in the 3T areas. This study uses a phenomenological design. The data were collected using observation and interview. Three civil servant teachers of English who commuted regularly from the city to the rural area were involved as the participated in this study. Four key themes emerged as findings: teacher motivation, professional development, survival in teaching, and teaching experiences. Teacher motivation was related to their reasons to retain teaching in rural areas. Professional development covered teacher training, further study. Survival teaching included challenges teachers of English encountered, strategies applied, and solutions taken. Teaching experiences covered their opportunity to use more than one language, community bound, and culture adjustment. These elements are critical to fostering a sustainable and impactful educational environment in rural communities.

Abstract

The present study examines challenges and approaches involved in improving character education, namely through the Pancasila Student Profile (P5), at junior high schools located in Semarang City. The data was gathered by employing a qualitative methodology, which involved classroom observations, focus group discussions, and interview. The findings reveal that Junior high schools encounter character challenges such as bullying, minor crimes, disrespect, and internet use are examples. Student discipline, responsibility, social contact, and social media/peer pressure are issues. Academic expectations increase stress. Character education is integrated into the curriculum, teacher training, and extracurricular activities to address these challenges by introducing local wisdom in traditional arts, folk games, and teamwork. Local wisdom-based understanding, role-playing, and social action initiatives are taught. Local wisdom-based character education shapes students' behaviour and attitudes, preparing them for future problems and conserving national traditions. Schools may foster well-rounded students by fostering positive character, student participation, and cultural diversity.

Abstract

To maintain the continuity of the teaching and learning process at State Universities by minimum services, in 2021, the government has launched the state universities operational assistance (BOPTN) policy by providing operational funding assistance to state universities. The education budget allocated by the government does not seem to be the operational needs of a state university, especially those in the DKI Jakarta region. Therefore, evaluation of this policy is necessary. The qualitative research method was carried out by using the Dunn's six evaluation criteria, consisting of effectiveness, efficiency, adequacy, equity, responsiveness, and accuracy. This research was conducted at the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNVJ) and Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ). It indicated that the BOPTN policy was effective, efficient, and appropriate in assisting operations at PTNs in the DKI Jakarta region. However, the amount of assistance provided was still not enough to cover all operational costs, and the amount among PTNs was also not fair, and complaints were still found from students.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the learning outcomes of the students in class VIII-B at SMP Plus Taruna Andalan Pangkalan Kerinci in the Traditional Musical Instrument Classification subject through the Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning model supported by media box instrument. This research uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research results show that the Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning model with a media box instrument can improve students' learning outcomes. In cycle I, 50% of students achieved the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) score, with an average class score of 74.68. This result shows a significant improvement compared to the learning outcomes before the action (pre-cycle), which only reached 25% of students achieving the KKM. This research concludes that the Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning model with the media box instrument is effective in enhancing student understanding and learning outcomes in the Traditional Musical Instrument Classification subject. This learning model encourages students to participate actively, improves learning motivation, and creates a fun and engaging learning environment.
