Abstract

This study aims to formulate a performance improvement strategy for Indonesian higher education institutions in the digital era. A qualitative approach, using in-depth interviews with 10 purposively selected higher education management experts, was employed. Participants were chosen based on their expertise and experience in autonomous public universities. Data were collected over 81 days via online interviews and analyzed using six-stage thematic analysis. The findings identify three strategic stages. First, institutions should develop digital capability (DC) and organizational agility (OA) as foundational capacities. Second, DC and OA act as key enablers of the digital transformation strategy (DTS). Third, DTS can be strengthened by focusing on electronic customer relationship management (E-CRM) to deliver data-driven, personalized services. This study proposes a structured framework for digital transformation in higher education. However, the findings are limited to expert perspectives and require further validation through broader, longitudinal studies.

Abstract

This study explores the cultural values embedded in Kue Maksuba, a traditional layered cake from Palembang, South Sumatra, and examines their potential application as character education resources for Generation Z. Using a qualitative single instrumental case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation involving eight adult women aged 35 to 65 years, conducted during Ramadan 1447H (February to March 2026) in their domestic production environments in Palembang. Five overarching themes emerged: cultural values as pedagogical resource, philosophical meanings of ingredients for character education, the intergenerational transmission gap and its conditions for repair, modernization challenges to cultural integrity, and preservation strategies for educational integration. Findings demonstrate that patience, perseverance, communal cooperation, and respect are structurally encoded in the Ramadan production process of Kue Maksuba and are enacted with particular intensity during this period of communal spiritual discipline. Adult practitioner informants unanimously identified declining engagement among younger generations as the most urgent challenge facing the tradition, and consistently identified, from their direct family and community experience, the conditions under which intergenerational transmission can be meaningfully restored. This study argues for the development of pedagogical modules grounded in the Ramadan production philosophy of Kue Maksuba as a foundation for Generation Z character education in Indonesian educational settings.

Abstract

Early childhood teachers face significant emotional demands in classroom interactions, emphasizing the value of emotion regulation as a critical professional competency. However, many teachers struggle to manage their emotions, which can affect their well-being and teaching effectiveness, leading to increased stress and burnout in their profession. Self-compassion has been recognized as a personal resource that may support adaptive emotional responses. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-compassion and emotion regulation among early childhood teachers. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, involving 250 teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated self-compassion and emotion regulation scales distributed via an online questionnaire. Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between self-compassion and emotion regulation (r = 0.62, p < 0.001). The findings indicate that teachers with higher self-compassion tend to demonstrate better emotion regulation. These results suggest the importance of incorporating self-compassion into teacher development programs to enhance emotional competence and professional well-being.

Abstract

Digital technology is increasingly important in vocational education, yet many rural schools continue to face challenges in integrating it into teaching and learning. This study explores how teachers in a rural vocational high school in Tanjung Jabung Barat, Jambi, Indonesia, develop and apply digital competence in their professional practice. A qualitative case study design was used, involving semi-structured interviews with seven school stakeholders and an analysis of relevant school documents. The findings show that teachers encounter a range of challenges, including limited infrastructure, uncertainty in using unfamiliar technologies, and restricted access to sustained professional support. At the same time, teachers who received encouragement from school leaders, collaborated with colleagues, and participated in ongoing learning activities demonstrated greater confidence in using digital tools. The study suggests that digital competence develops through the interaction of personal motivation, workplace support, and opportunities for continuous professional learning. Based on these findings, an integrated framework is proposed that connects technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK), human resource development, and digital leadership.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how burnout is positioned as a central mechanism linking job demands and employee performance through a bibliometric review of recent literature. Data were retrieved from the Scopus database, covering peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2021 and 2025. A total of 31 articles were analyzed using bibliometric techniques, including publication trend analysis, authorship and geographical distribution, and keyword co-occurrence mapping with VOSviewer. The analysis suggests that burnout is repeatedly discussed as a key link between different forms of job demands and employee performance outcomes across the reviewed studies. However, employee performance is less explicitly integrated than job demands and burnout, indicating a fragmented research landscape. These findings indicate that future studies may benefit from adopting more comprehensive frameworks that explain how burnout connects job demands with performance. The study provides a systematic foundation for future empirical research and organizational interventions.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between transformational school leadership and learning innovation, as well as the sustainable improvement of educational quality. Using a quantitative design, data were collected from senior high school teachers through a structured questionnaire and analyzed with SmartPLS 4 using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling. The results show that transformational school leadership significantly enhances learning innovation, while learning innovation in turn significantly improves educational quality. In contrast, the direct effect of transformational school leadership on educational quality is positive but not significant. The mediation analysis confirms that learning innovation fully mediates this relationship. These findings suggest that school leadership contributes to educational quality when it is translated into practical innovation in learning materials, teaching methods, classroom culture, and assessment practices. The study recommends that principals strengthen instructional leadership, encourage teacher innovation, and build sustainable professional learning systems to support continuous improvement in educational quality.

Abstract

This study explores how student self-development for character excellence is governed in an Islamic boarding school through the POAC framework: planning, organising, actuating, and controlling. Using a qualitative single-case design, the research was conducted at Pesantren Terpadu Almuslim, Bireuen, Indonesia, through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis involving leaders, teachers, dormitory supervisors, student mentors, students, parents, and alumni. The findings show that self-development is managed as an integrated system of character formation. Planning translates the pesantren’s vision into programmes, indicators, and annual work plans. Organising distributes roles across staff, students, families, and alumni. Actuating is reflected in religious routines, dormitory life, teacher role modelling, student leadership, extracurricular activities, and social service. Controlling is carried out through supervision, evaluation meetings, development records, and corrective guidance. Character excellence grows through this continuous cycle of daily pesantren life.

Abstract

This study aims to conceptualize the implementation of the Merdeka Mengajar Platform (PMM) in vocational education at SMK Negeri 3 Kota Solok from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The research employs a qualitative approach, using a literature review supported by field data collected through observation and documentation. The findings indicate that PMM contributes to improving learning flexibility, access to learning resources, and teachers’ pedagogical competence. However, its implementation still faces several challenges, including limited technological infrastructure, disparities in teachers’ digital competencies, and low levels of optimal use of platform features. These findings highlight that successful PMM implementation is influenced by technological readiness, policy support, and continuous professional development. This study provides a conceptual contribution to the integration of technology into vocational education and practical recommendations for optimizing the implementation of PMM.

Abstract

This study explores the use of creative pedagogy in helping pre-service teachers develop creative thinking and communication skills through a social campaign poster project. The participants were 41 fifth-semester students from the English Education program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang. In this study, students identified social or educational issues and created persuasive posters that reflected values such as empathy, responsibility, cooperation, and ethics. Data were collected through observation, poster evaluation, and reflective questionnaires. The assessment focused on fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration aspects of creative thinking. The results showed that students performed well in fluency and elaboration. However, flexibility and originality were lower, suggesting that students still need more support in developing visual literacy and divergent thinking. The activity also encouraged students to see themselves as future teachers who communicate ethically. Overall, the findings suggest that project-based activities can help students improve both communication skills and awareness of educational values.
