Abstract

Stem cells are capable of self-regeneration and differentiation into specialized cells, such as adipocytes, chondrocytes, and osteocytes. Stem cells can be cultured in vitro using media-containing serum, such as fetal bovine serum (FBS). However, the cell yield is often lacking, thus the manipulation of the culture medium is needed. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) contains a thousand growth proteins. This study aims to compare the effects of FBS (Gibco), non-commercial PRP, and commercial PLTGold® Human Platelet Lysate (Merck) on the growth and population doubling time (PDT) of stem cells isolated from adipose tissue. Stem cells will be enzymatically isolated from adipose tissue, followed by culture and expansion processes, with subsequent observations of cell morphology, viability, growth rate, and PDT. The results showed that adipose-derived stem cells exhibit fibroblast-like morphology and adhere to the plastic surface. The optimal cell number, PDT and proliferation rate showed in PLTGold®, PRP and FBS respectively. Based on these results, it can be concluded that PLTGold® or PRP can substitute FBS as a growth supplement for stem cell proliferation.  Keywords: Stem Cell, Proliferation, PDT, PRP, PLTGold®

Abstract

Identification, often referred to as determination, is the process of determining whether a plant is identical to a group of plants that have previously been classified and named. When a plant is to be identified, the first step is to thoroughly study the plant. All morphological traits (such as the position, shape, size, and number of parts of leaves, flowers, and fruits) need to be analyzed so that the characteristics of the plant being identified are fully understood. Botanical learning resources encompass everything used to facilitate learning about plants, including their structure, function, classification, and ecological interactions. These resources assist students or researchers in understanding various aspects of botany. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the plant species present. The research method used is descriptive exploratory. The subjects of this study are the plant species found at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) at UNM. Data collection was conducted in two stages: exploration and field observation. The results of this method were then analyzed by listing all identified plant characteristics in tables and photographs, which were then described descriptively. The findings indicate that there are 44 plant species at the Faculty of MIPA-UNM, belonging to the families Arecaceae, Combretaceae, Agavaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Myrtaceae, Iridaceae, Solanaceae, Araliaceae, Liliaceae, Meliaceae, Sapotaceae, Apocynaceae, Malvaceae, Anacardiaceae, Moraceae, Heliconiaceae, Amaranthaceae, Rubiaceae, Cannaceae, Verbenaceae, Rutaceae, Annonaceae, Nytainaceae, Vitaceae, and Crassulaceae. Therefore, the plant species found at the Faculty of MIPA-UNM are well-suited to serve as botanical learning resources.  Keywords: Identification, Plants, Faculty of MIPA-UNM

Abstract

Suplementary feed based on the flesh of tongka langit bananas has never been done, even though tongka langit bananas are very qualified as supplementary feed because there is 55% glucose as a substitute for nectar and other similar ingredients and the presence of β-carotene in these bananas as a precursor of vitamin A which is expected to be present in honey when given additional feed based on tongka langit banana. This study aims to determine the effect of giving tongka langit banana-based supplementary feed on the β-carotene content of Apis cerana (F.) bee honey. The research method used was experimental with a Completely Randomized Design at the A. cerana bee farm to obtain data related to feed consumption in four treatments located in Eri Village, Nusaniwe District, Ambon City, Maluku. Then the composition of honey in the form of β-Carotene and vitamin C was further analyzed using the KCKT method of normal phase chromatography (normal phase chromatography) related to the concentration of the four treatments at the Laboratory of the Bogor Agricultural Postharvest Research and Development Center. The results of the analysis of β-carotene content using the HPLC method showed that the highest β-carotene content was in the tongka langit banana feed of 2.275 mg/100g followed by fresh ripe tongka langit bananas of 2.198 mg/100g while in the water + sugar diet it was 2.075 mg/100g and natural feed without treatment as the lowest β-carotene content, namely 1.975 mg/100g. Abstract

The Rawas River, a tributary of the Musi River in South Sumatra, faces water quality challenges due to various anthropogenic activities such as household waste, industrial discharge, and agricultural runoff. This study aimed to analyze the diversity and abundance of phytoplankton, as well as water parameters, in the Rawas River. Sampling was conducted at three stations from March to June 2023. Phytoplankton identification was performed in the laboratory using a trinocular microscope, and data analysis included diversity index (H’), evenness index (E), dominance index (C), and PCA analysis. Results identified 49 phytoplankton species across 7 classes, with Bacillariophyceae dominating (69.86%). Station II exhibited the highest diversity (H’ = 3.601) due to effective industrial waste management through IPAL, while Station I showed the highest abundance (37.59%) due to household waste input. PCA analysis identified nitrate, phosphate, water transparency, and current velocity as dominant parameters influencing phytoplankton distribution. This study underscores the importance of waste management in maintaining water quality and preserving the Rawas River ecosystem.
