Abstract

Stomata are important structures in leaves that function in gas exchange and regulating air loss. The research focuses on the characteristics of Rhoeo discolor leaf stomata which are influenced by sampling time, taking into account environmental factors such as light, temperature and humidity. The aim of this research is to provide insight into the physiological adaptation of tropical plants to environmental change. The method used includes observing stomata in the morning (08.00 WIB) and afternoon (16.00 WIB) using a light microscope, where five samples are taken at each observation time to analyze the number of open and closed stomata. The results showed that the average number of open stomata was higher in the morning (24 stomata) than in the afternoon (17 stomata). This results in high stomata density in the morning, while in the afternoon it is low. Not only that, for the characteristics of stomata based on the location of the stomata on the leaf surface, the Rhoeo discolor stomata type is the Amphistomatic type. Meanwhile, based on its shape, the type of stomata that these stomata have is the tetracytic stomata type. In conclusion, sampling time has a significant effect on the characteristics of stomata in Rhoeo discolor, with more stomata opening in the morning associated with higher light intensity, supporting the efficiency of photosynthesis and air use in plants. Abstract

Environmental problems caused by the decrease in green open spaces (RTH) and the increasing land conversion have disrupted the water infiltration system, leading to flooding during the rainy season and droughts during the dry season. One solution that can be implemented is the use of biopore infiltration holes (LRB) as a groundwater conservation method. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of LRB in reducing rainwater runoff at Taman Pengabdian Tiyuh Mulya Jaya, Tulang Bawang Barat Regency. The research method used is quantitative descriptive with data collection techniques through observation, documentation, and rainfall intensity measurement. The research site covers an area of ±2100 m², with 21 LRBs applied. Data analysis was carried out to determine the optimal placement of LRBs, the ideal number of infiltration holes, and the volume of water absorbed. The results show that LRBs are effective in increasing water infiltration into the ground, reducing puddles, and maintaining groundwater availability. In this study, the total rainwater storage volume obtained was approximately ±37745.72 L, the application of LRBs has contributed to addressing rainwater runoff issues and supporting environmental conservation efforts. Therefore, the effectiveness in handling runoff water reached 43%. Keywords: Biopore Infiltration Holes, Water Availability, Runoff Water Management

Abstract

Plant awareness disparity (PAD) is a phenomenon that indicates individuals' lack of attention or awareness towards plants in their surrounding environment. This gap can affect the ability of pre-service biology teachers to identify plant types. This study aims to analyze the correlation between PAD and plant identification skills in preservice teachers. This study aims to analyze the correlation between PAD and plant identification skills in students. The method used is correlational with instruments in the form of PAD questionnaires and local plant identification tests. The research population was all prospective biology teachers at Siliwangi University, totaling 518 people. Samples were taken using purposive sampling techniques, including 200 preservice biology teachers in grades 1 and 2. Data analysis using a simple regression correlation test, and based on the results of the analysis, it was found that PAD has a significant influence on plant identification ability, with a coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.75. This shows that 75% of the variation in plant identification ability can be explained by PAD, while 25% is influenced by other factors outside the measured variables. This finding indicates that increasing awareness of plant diversity can improve the skills of prospective biology teachers in identifying plants. The implications of this study indicate the importance of learning strategies to increase awareness of the existence of plants in biology education and improve the plant identification skills of prospective teachers and enrich the botanical literacy of the next generation. Abstract

Lichen is an indicator plant that is sensitive to air pollution. This sensitivity is indicated by changes in state, body resistance, and reactions to environmental changes. This study aims to evaluate air quality in the University of Jember environment by using lichen as a bioindicator. The selection of the University of Jember as the research site was based on its unique environmental conditions, namely the presence of high motor vehicle activity, the presence of industry, and also the extent of green areas. Data were obtained through lichen sampling in 15 faculties and analyzed using the Air Quality Index of Atmospheric Purify (IAP). The results showed low average IAP values, indicating poor air quality in the campus environment. The Faculty of Computer Science and Faculty of Agriculture had the lowest IAP values, indicating the highest levels of pollution. Correlations between IAP values and the presence of green spaces and human activity showed that these factors significantly affected air quality. A decrease in lichen diversity indicates an increase in air pollutants, especially from vehicle exhaust. This study concludes that lichens can be an effective tool for monitoring air quality in urban environments, particularly in campus areas. Keyword: Air Quality, Bioindicators, Lichen, Pollution

Abstract

Students in learning is still using printed books from the library, this causes students to be passive in learning because the material in the printed books that are causes students to be passive in learning because the material in printed books is too broad, complicated and difficult to carry too extensive. Material that is too broad is often not explained by the teacher due to lack of lesson time. Based on this background, a solution is needed to maximize important material to be discussed and in accordance with the learning objectives at each meeting so that the activities to be carried out in learning can be well allocated. The solution to the problem, namely E-LKPD. The purpose of the study was to determine the perceptions of Biology teachers and students towards the use of E-LKPD in implementing learning with the PjBL model. The research method used was descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were 1 Biology teacher and 30 students at one of the State High Schools in Cirebon Regency. Data collection techniques used interview sheets, teacher needs analysis questionnaires and student needs analysis questionnaires. The results showed that class X students used learning resources derived from textbooks borrowed from the library, students felt that environmental change material in the textbook was difficult to understand because it was too complex a discussion, the teacher found it difficult to summarize a lot of material from the textbook for several learning objectives. So that according to students and teachers, the package book has not supported learning activities so that it requires other teaching materials that are in accordance with learning objectives and effective content and in electronic form for easy access.  Keywords: Requirement Analysis, E-LKPD, PjBL

Abstract

In this study, mango extract was formulated with varying concentrations of paper soap. Assessment of paper soap includes testing organoleptic type, pH value, foam height, and water content. The purpose of the study was to assess and test paper soap formulations containing mango leaf extract (Mangifera indica L.) in inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans. Mango leaves are known to have active connections that may be antiseptic. The inhibition test was performed by the pitting diffusion method. The diameter of the inhibition zone formed around the wells was measured after incubation using a ruler. The results showed that the formulation of mango leaf extract has excellent physical properties and does not cause irritation to the skin at certain concentrations and formulations. Inhibition tests show that soap from mango leaf extract is not effective for inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans with an increase in the inhibition zone as well as an increase in extract concentration with a weak category. Mango leaf extract paper soap cannot be an antiseptic soap on Pseudomonas aeruginosa but can be an antiseptic on Candida albicans.  Keywords: Antiseptic, Candida albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa
