Abstract

Agricultural waste in the form of carrot leaves (Daucus carota L) has potential as a source of feed for thin-tailed sheep. Fermented processing of carrot leaves aims to increase feed efficiency, make it last longer and can be used within a certain time. This research aims to add information and references for readers regarding the effect of using fermented carrot leaves (Daucus carota L) in rations on the consumption of organic matter (BO), crude protein (PK), and crude fiber (SK) in thin-tailed sheep. This research was carried out for fifty-six days from December 2022 to January 2023 at Kandang Waris Mendho Farm and at the Integrated Laboratory of Tidar University. The design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 5 replications, P1: 60% concentrate + 40% pakchong forage, P2: 60% concentrate + 10% fermented carrot leaves + 30% pakchong forage, P3: 60% concentrate % + fermented carrot leaves 20% + pakchong forage 20%, P4: concentrate 60% + fermented carrot leaves 30% + pakchong forage 10%, P5: concentrate 60% + fermented carrot leaves 40%. The research results showed that fermented carrot leaves had no effect on (P>0.05) BO consumption and PK consumption, but had a significant effect on (P<0.05) SK consumption. The highest SK consumption was in P1 with a consumption value of 102.44 ± 7.74 g. It can be concluded that fermented carrot leaves do not interfere with PK and SK consumption levels.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of adding Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae flour to the ration on feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion in poultry. The four treatments used were P0 (ration without the addition of BSF flour), P1 (ration + 5% BSF flour), P2 (ration + 10% BSF flour), and P3 (ration + 15% BSF flour), with each treatment repeated four times. The livestock used in this study were 80 broiler chickens, which were distributed in each treatment unit of 5 chickens each. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), with Duncan's further test if there was a significant effect. The results showed that the P3 treatment with the addition of 15% BSF flour produced the lowest feed consumption (1063.44 grams) and the best feed conversion (0.9818), indicating higher feed efficiency. In contrast, the P0 treatment without the addition of BSF flour had the highest feed consumption (1482.20 grams) and the lowest feed conversion (2.5832). Body weight gain increased significantly with increasing proportion of BSF flour, namely P3 had the highest body weight gain (1087.95 grams) compared to other treatments. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the addition of BSF flour up to 15% in the ration has a positive effect on the growth and performance of broiler chickens. The best results for the observed parameters were feed consumption (1063.44 grams), with feed conversion (0.9818), and the best body weight gain (1087.95 grams). The use of BSF flour in poultry rations shows potential as an efficient alternative feed ingredient. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term effects and potential for commercial application.

Abstract

The increasing demand for chicken meat consumption every year drives farmers to optimize the production performance of broiler chickens. The administration of probiotics has become one solution to maximize production. Probiotics are live microorganisms that enhance digestive efficiency. Prebiotics from milk waste and kefir grain starter are used as media for probiotic production, containing bacteria such as Lactobacillus, Bacillus sp., Pediococcus, Streptococcus, and Saccharomyces. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of performance and income over feed cost (IOFC) from probiotic supplementation during the finisher phase of broiler chickens. The research method uses a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications: P0 (without probiotics), P1 (3% probiotics), P2 (5% probiotics), and P3 (7% probiotics). Probiotics were administered in the broilers' drinking water from evening until morning. Statistical testing employed One Way ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. The results showed that the best probiotic dose was P3 (7% probiotics), with 0% mortality, an average feed consumption of 152 g/bird/day, final body weight of 2203 g/bird, average daily weight gain of 257 g/bird, an average Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) of 1.467, and an excellent Performance Index (PI) of 354 (>351-400). The 7% probiotic dose in drinking water provided the highest IOFC, amounting to Rp. 10,263 per bird.

Abstract

This study aims to process chicken feather waste into high-protein feather meal using a completely randomized design (CRD) experimental model. Four processing methods were applied: physical (P1), chemical with 12% HCl (P2), enzymatic with 0.4% proteolytic enzyme (P3), and chemical with 6% NaOH (P4). Proximate analysis included crude fiber, protein, moisture, ash, and fat content. An organoleptic test evaluated the color, texture, and odor of the meal. ANOVA and DMRT at the 5% level indicated significant differences between methods. The chemical method with 6% NaOH yielded the highest protein content (50.1%). Organoleptic data showed that all samples had similar sensory characteristics. The study concludes that the chemical processing method with 6% NaOH is the most effective in enhancing protein content, providing an optimal solution for economically and environmentally utilizing chicken feather waste.
