Abstract

Every teacher is expected to be an effective teacher because has a direct impact on students' academic performance, learning motivation, socio-emotional competence development, and self-regulated learning. However, there is currently no review that provides insights into teacher effectiveness at the primary school level. For this reason, it is crucial to produce an overview and gain insights into teacher effectiveness in primary schools. We conducted a literature review presented in the form of a systematic literature review, aimed at understanding the factors influencing teacher effectiveness at the primary level. The systematic literature review was conducted on 14 articles sourced from six databases: Scopus, Wiley, Science Direct, Emerald Insight, Taylor & Francis, and Sage Journals. From the literature analysis, we found that the factors influencing elementary school teacher effectiveness can be categorized into internal factors (teacher self-efficacy, self-esteem, teaching experience, and teacher attitude in work) and external factors (training, job relocation, peer recognition and relationships, and leadership style)

Abstract

Based on the results released by the OECD in 2023, literacy in Indonesia has increased in rank but decreased in score. The biggest decline was in the field of science. Facts on the ground also show that students' ability in science literacy is still low. This is evidenced by data from the Regional Competency Test conducted in 2024. To overcome this, researchers try to provide alternatives in the form of developing microsite-based learning media to improve the science literacy skills of elementary school students. The research method used is R n D with the ADDIE model. The result is that microsite-based learning media to improve students' literacy skills in elementary school is feasible to use and preferred by students. With a good level of media feasibility, it is hoped that this microsite-based learning media can be used in learning and can improve the science literacy skills of elementary school students.

Abstract

High graduate unemployment rates from Indonesian vocational high schools highlight a critical mismatch between educational competencies and industry demands. This article investigates the implementation phase of an integrated industrial class program within the Hospitality Skills Program at SMK Negeri 60 Jakarta, designed to address this gap. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were gathered via interviews, observations, and document analysis, focusing on program execution. Findings reveal a "week release" system alternating students between school and partner hotels, involving systematic dispatch, industry induction, and departmental placements for active participation in operational tasks. School-led monitoring and support were integral. This immersive implementation significantly enhanced students' technical and interpersonal skills. However, challenges included student adaptation, logistical issues, and aligning school-industry expectations. The study concludes that successful industrial class implementation, vital for mitigating the competency gap, hinges on strong school-industry collaboration, robust support, and adaptive management, offering insights for effective work-integrated vocational learning.

Abstract

Learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) requires vocabulary mastery, especially for elementary school students. This occurs due to limited teaching time, traditional teaching approaches, and low exposure to English. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this action research at SDN Paji, Lamongan. The purpose of this research is to determine how effective the Word Wall strategy is in improving the vocabulary of fifth-grade students. For six weeks, visuals, definitions, and example sentences were used to display thirty target words related to everyday themes. By reading aloud, using relevant words, and adding new vocabulary, students engaged with the Word Wall. Post-test results showed better recognition and usage of words in both speaking and writing, indicating a significant improvement in vocabulary mastery. Interviews confirmed that this method makes vocabulary learning more enjoyable and easier to remember, and observations showed an increase in students' confidence, participation, and ability to learn independently. According to self-determination theory, word boards also encourage intrinsic motivation. In addition, word boards support various different learning styles. By collaborating between teachers and students and incorporating additional preparation time into lesson plans, such issues can be addressed. Overall, the Word Wall strategy is student-centered and creates an interactive and cost-effective learning environment. This helps students learn vocabulary in an EFL environment with limited resources. Future research should investigate the long-term impact of digital adaptation at various grade levels.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of school climate and work motivation on teacher performance at SMA Negeri 7 Binjai. The research is grounded in the critical role of teacher performance as a measure of professionalism in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, alongside organizational challenges that hinder optimal teaching quality. A quantitative approach with correlational design and multiple linear regression analysis was employed. The research involved all 40 teachers at SMA Negeri 7 Binjai as the sample, using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire consisting of 57 validated and reliable items. The results showed that both school climate and work motivation significantly influence teacher performance, both partially and simultaneously. Individually, school climate accounted for 29.4% of the performance variance, while work motivation contributed 49.7%; together, both variables explained 55.7% of the variance. These findings underscore the importance of building a supportive work environment and enhancing teacher motivation through comprehensive managerial strategies. The study offers practical implications for school leaders, education managers, and policymakers in designing effective, collaborative, and sustainable interventions to improve teacher performance and educational quality in secondary schools.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the application of differentiated instruction and its assessment in Vocational High Schools, focusing on teachers' understanding, challenges in implementation, the use of differentiated assessment, and its impact on student engagement and learning outcomes. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis. Findings indicate that teachers understand the fundamental principles of differentiated instruction and have attempted to apply them through various approaches, such as grouping students based on ability levels and adjusting materials. However, the main challenges faced include time constraints, limited resources, and a lack of training to effectively implement differentiation. Differentiated assessment has also been applied in the form of formative and project-based assessments, though teachers report difficulties in providing in-depth feedback within limited timeframes. Positive impacts from the application of differentiated instruction are seen in increased student interest and motivation, as well as improved learning outcomes. This study provides theoretical contributions by supporting the application of differentiated instruction principles within the vocational education context and offers suggestions to enhance teacher training and resource development for more effective differentiation. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for developing more inclusive and adaptive learning approaches in vocational school and other educational institutions.

Abstract

English is one of the essential subjects that students must master, particularly in writing skill. However, the reality 22 eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Mandrehe Utara still had difficulties in writing good and structured narrative texts. This was due to the lack of learning strategys that support students in organizing their ideas. Therefore, this study aimed to describe students’ ability in writing narrative texts through the implementation of concept mapping that is valid, practical, and effective. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, written tests, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the use of concept mapping helped students to organize ideas systematically, understand the structure of narrative texts, and develop more coherent storylines. The teacher provided sufficient guidance, although written evaluations and individual feedback were not yet optimal. Most students showed improvement in narrative writing, especially in composing orientation, complication, and resolution. However, some students still found it difficult to develop creative conflicts and conclusions. The study concluded that concept mapping is an effective learning strategy to support the process of writing narrative texts. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers consistently apply this strategy and complement it with comprehensive evaluation to achieve better learning outcomes.
