Abstract

Background: Many adolescents engage in sexual risk behaviors (SRBs). Purpose: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of SRBs that lead to unintended sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and teen pregnancy. Method: The cross-sectional ‘Global School-Based Health Survey (GSHS)’ was conducted in 2018, with 6,940 Bolivian students aged 11–18 years or older responding to a questionnaire. The GSHS measure used in this survey included topics ranging from demographic information to sexual risk behaviors (SRB). Almost one-third of the students had ever had sex (33.7%), and nearly half of those who had sex had also consumed alcohol. Findings: In adjusted ordinal logistic regression analysis, ever drinking alcohol (AOR = 1.55, 95% CI [1.22, 1.98]) and heavy alcohol use (AOR = 1.34, 95% CI [1.04, 1.74]) were positively associated with SRB. Conclusion: This study highlights the contribution of alcohol and substance use to the increasing prevalence of SRB among Bolivian adolescents. Additionally, 1 out of 3 students engage in SRB, reflecting a lack of sexual health education among adolescents. Implication:  The study shows that nearly one in three adolescents in Bolivia engage in SRB, influenced by alcohol and substance use, school truancy, and lack of parental support. This highlights the urgent need for more comprehensive sexual education programs that address these interconnected issues. Stakeholders are encouraged to develop deeper, integrated approaches that focus on substance use prevention, improving school engagement, and fostering stronger family support to reduce SRB and promote healthier outcomes for adolescents.

Abstract

Background: The development of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) resents challenges in enhancing job performance. While personality traits, particularly conscientiousness, are known to directly influence job performance, there is limited understanding of how job crafting behavior contributes to this relationship.Purpose: This research investigates the role of job crafting (task crafting, elational crafting, & cognitive crafting) in mediating the relationship between conscientiousness and job performance (task & contextual performance).Method: Quantitative research was conducted with 185 participants who are knowledge workers in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company with an average of 29.67 years old (SD = 4.50), with a minimumof 1 year of tenure. Data analysis using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and linear regression. Findings: Results indicated that task crafting, relational crafting, and cognitive crafting worked as a partial mediator in the relationship between conscientiousness and task performance. Meanwhile, the relationship between conscientiousness and contextual performance was insignificant, indicating the need of further study regarding work engagement and job characteristics of FMCG employees. Implication: The result encouraged organizations to support job crafting by providing training and facilitating job modification.

Abstract

Background: First-year undergraduate students face the learning style transition in high schools and universities and struggle to accept a new academic environment. Previous studies found that academic self-efficacy is important in predicting academic achievement among first-year undergraduate students. However, no specific instruments were developed in the Indonesian context. Purpose: This research aimed to develop and test the psychometric properties of The Indonesian Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (TIASS). Method: The scale was developed using Zajacova’s theory on academic self-efficacy. The test tryout involved 251 first-year college students, both female and male, aged 18-22 (M = 19.56, SD = 2.47). Statistical analysis used classical test theory and the Rasch model. Reliability was assessed with Stratified Alpha, Cronbach's Alpha, and the Rasch Model, while validity was evaluated through construct and concurrent validity.Findings: The final 20 items effectively measure academic self-efficacy in first-year undergraduates, demonstrating good reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = .692-.781, Stratified Alpha = .902, Item Separation Reliability = .990, and Person Separation Reliability = .880) and validity (t-value range from 9.779 to 36.323 and λ ranged from -.070 to .774).Implication: TIASS is a reliable and valid scale for assessing academic self-efficacy, providing a baseline for designing interventions to boost first-year student’s academic confidence.

Abstract

Background: Corruption is one of the major inhibitory to various advances. Corruption that was characterized by misuse of public or organizational positions for personal or organizational benefit commonly involved public officials in the form of bribery behavior. Therefore, it is important to investigate factors contributing to bribery behavior in public officials. Purpose: Taking a micro-level perspective, this research aims to extend corruption literature by focusing on the moderating role of ethical leadership in the relationship between descriptive norms and corruption. Method: The study used a quantitative survey approach with 116 participants working in public organizations. Three scales were used to measure descriptive norms, ethical leadership, and corruption. A moderation regression-based analysis was used to analyze the data. Findings: The results showed that descriptive norms have a significant role in predicting corruption. However, ethical leadership has no moderating role in the relationship between descriptive norms and corruption. Implication: These findings provide new insight into the literature by suggesting that ethical leadership might not be effective in reducing followers’ corruption when corruption is widespread. Therefore, corruption intervention programs may emphasize descriptive norms aspect in anti-corruption campaigns to reduce the perception of descriptive norms in order to reduce the possibility of individuals engaging in corruption.

Abstract

Background: The choice of coping strategies by individuals is influenced by a range of internal and external factors. However, there is limited research on how different types of problems affect these preferences. Purpose: We aim to fill this gap by examining the interplay between coping strategies, problem types, and demographic factors. Method: Using a mixed-method approach, we analyzed secondary data from a survey of Indonesian university students. We analyzed 349 valid responses through three analytical methods. Content analysis was used to identify students' coping methods and the types of problems they faced. We then employed contingency tables and logistic regression to explore the associations among these variables.Findings: We found that high-income students are less likely to experience academic and social problems and more likely to use professional mental health services, that academic problems are linked to active and spiritual coping strategies, that female students are more likely to experience stress regulation problems, and that older students are less likely to employ emotion-regulation strategies. Implication: How students cope with their problems are influenced by the problem they experience and their demographic background. Future research should focus on specific problems and coping strategies to gain deep domain-specific insights.

Abstract

Background: The increase in the number of layoffs and periods of recession gave rise to an interesting phenomenon, namely overqualification of employees. Most research on overqualification and perceived overqualification (POQ) so far was conducted to look for negative impacts and was carried out in developed countries.Purpose: This study aims to explore the non-linear relationship and positive influence of POQ on job crafting, as well as the role of psychological capital and work autonomy in strengthening this relationship. Method: Data was collected from 217 employees with tenure ranging from 1 to 5 years, occupying positions at or below the supervisory level.Findings: The result of the main hypothesis showed that POQ has a U-shaped relationship with job crafting, which indicates that there is an optimal POQ level that can increase an employee’s job crafting. The research results also showed that high psychological capital in employees is able to moderate the relationship between POQ and job crafting, thus strengthening the relationship between the two. Work autonomy was found could not moderate the relationship between the two.Implication: It is expected that the results of this research can help companies overcome the negative impact of POQ and instead benefit from the positive impact.
