Abstract

This study aims to analyze psychological factors contributing to deviant behavior among sixth-grade elementary students and to examine religious character development strategies implemented by schools to address such behavior, with the goal of identifying effective and sustainable approaches for guiding students toward positive behavioral and character development. The research employed a qualitative case study design using purposive sampling, with data collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and documentation studies involving school leaders, teachers, students, and parents, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion verification procedures. The findings reveal that students’ deviant behaviors are influenced by emotional pressure, family relationship issues, the need for peer recognition, weak emotional regulation, and exposure to digital media, while strategies such as empathetic communication, teacher role modeling, structured worship habituation, personal mentoring, and collaboration between school and parents effectively reduce behavioral problems and improve students’ discipline and self-control. The study results can be applied in elementary education settings, character education programs, counseling services, and school management practices, providing practical guidance for teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents in developing preventive and corrective strategies for student behavioral issues while strengthening character education programs. The originality of this study lies in its integrated analysis combining psychological factors and religious character development strategies, demonstrating how spiritual habituation, empathetic guidance, and parental involvement collectively support behavioral improvement, thereby contributing new practical insights for advancing character education and student behavior management research in elementary school contexts.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to develop and evaluate an ADDIE-based training management model to improve school librarians’ competencies in supporting the achievement of excellent library accreditation standards in senior high schools in Binjai City. Methodology: This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) methodology based on the ADDIE model. Data collection techniques comprised interviews, observations, expert validation instruments, and competency assessments. The data were analyzed statistically using the Shapiro–Wilk test for normality, paired sample t-test, and N-Gain score analysis with the assistance of SPSS software. Main Findings: The developed model was validated as feasible by experts and demonstrated significant effectiveness. Pretest and posttest scores increased substantially in both limited and large group trials. Statistical testing confirmed significant differences, and N-Gain results indicated high effectiveness categories. Applications of this study: The training model can be applied in educational institutions, school systems, and librarian professional development programs. It is particularly useful for schools preparing library accreditation and for education authorities seeking structured competency improvement strategies. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study provides an empirically tested ADDIE-based training management model specifically designed for school librarians and linked to accreditation standards. The research integrates instructional design theory, professional competency development, and accreditation requirements within a single framework.

Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach supported by word card media in enhancing the beginning reading abilities of second-grade students at SD Negeri 18 Vega, Selimbau District. A quantitative methodology was adopted, utilizing a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest framework. The participants comprised 17 second-grade students, all of whom were included in the study through a saturated sampling technique. Data were gathered through reading tests, classroom observations, and documentation. The validity of the research instrument was evaluated using the Pearson Product Moment correlation, while reliability was measured through Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. Data analysis involved both descriptive and inferential statistics, including a paired-samples t-test performed using IBM SPSS Statistics 27. The findings demonstrated that all test items satisfied the required validity standards, although the reliability values did not fully reach the generally recommended level. The descriptive analysis indicated an increase in the average score from 57.64 in the pretest to 78.82 in the posttest. Furthermore, the paired-samples t-test revealed a significant difference between students’ scores before and after the intervention (Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05), accompanied by a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.85). These results suggest that the application of the CTL model in combination with word card media contributed positively to the improvement of students’ early reading performance. Consequently, the study offers initial empirical support for the use of CTL and word card media as an instructional strategy to foster beginning reading skills in elementary school learners.
