Abstract

This study examines the trajectory of Indonesian democracy post-New Order, utilizing Jürgen Habermas's theory of deliberative democracy, specifically focusing on discourse ethics, the political public sphere, and popular discursive sovereignty. Through a literature-based analysis, enriched by empirical case studies and textual analysis, the research delineates the varying democratic experiences under the Habibie, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), and Joko Widodo (Jokowi) administrations. The Habibie era witnessed a democratic resurgence, characterized by increased openness and the integration of public deliberation into policy-making. Conversely, the SBY period revealed democratic stagnation, attributed to high-cost politics, a restricted public sphere, and ineffective institutional oversight. The Jokowi era marked a further regression, evidenced by the suppression of dissent, the consolidation of oligarchic power, and the erosion of meaningful public discourse. These findings suggest a concerning trend towards democratic decline in Indonesia, signaling a potential return to authoritarian governance. This research offers a critical analysis of these trends, providing a framework for understanding the challenges facing Indonesian democracy and informing future policy considerations.

Abstract

This article examines the application of the character values of independence and discipline to child rehabilitation in Special Child Development Institutions (LPKA) in Indonesia. Using a systematic literature review (SLR) approach, this study analyzes relevant data to assess the effectiveness of existing programs, which encompass personal, intellectual, skills, physical, and spiritual development, in accordance with national regulations. Although these programs contribute positively to character development, their implementation faces significant challenges, primarily due to limited funding, inadequate facilities, and a lack of qualified human resources. These obstacles directly impact the primary objective of LPKA to prepare children for successful reintegration with a strong sense of independence and community discipline. To address these challenges, this study recommends implementing a collaborative model with the Ministry of Education, modeled after Malaysia, to address human resource limitations. A major limitation of this study is its reliance on secondary data through the SLR method, which does not incorporate empirical evidence from field observations. Therefore, future research should incorporate primary data to provide a more comprehensive understanding of this topic.

Abstract

Indonesia is known for its diversity, both in culture, religion, language, and ethnicity. This diversity needs to be managed to create a harmonious, peaceful, and just society. The development of global awareness from an early age plays a crucial role in achieving this goal. One of the key values taught to children is tolerance. This study aims to improve principals' and educators' understanding of the values of tolerance and diversity through a structured workshop model. This study used a qualitative approach with an intervention in the form of a workshop involving principals, teachers, and education personnel. Workshop activities included presentations, group discussions, case studies, simulations, and the development of a Real Action Plan (RAN) to be implemented in their respective schools. The results showed that the workshop significantly improved participants' competency in managing multicultural learning environments and promoting inclusive values in their schools. Furthermore, this study recommends the importance of policy support from local governments to ensure the continued implementation of values of tolerance and diversity in schools. This study was limited to a relatively small number of participants in Sukabumi Regency, so the generalizability of the findings may be limited. Further research is recommended to involve more participants and use a longitudinal design to assess the long-term impact of the intervention.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the digital rights and responsibilities of students in Padang City in their use of internet technology. The rapid development of technology requires students to be not only active users, but also to understand the ethical norms, rights, and responsibilities inherent in online activities. On one hand, students have the freedom to access internet technology, but on the other, they are required to be responsible and respect the rights of others. This study is a qualitative descriptive research. The authors proposed 24 statements indicating students' digital rights and responsibilities. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, which were then interpreted. The results found that students understood their digital rights and responsibilities and maintained their own and others' digital privacy well. However, their academic ethics tended to be low, as students considered actions like copying material and downloading videos to be a normal practice. In terms of reporting digital rights theft and harassment, the students' awareness was quite good, but they did not know the proper procedures. Therefore, socialization is needed for relevant institutions, such as the Padang City Education Office, school supervisors, and teachers, regarding the digital rights and responsibilities of high school students in using internet technology wisely.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe how the Balinese community in Padang City maintains their cultural identity amid the strong dominance of the local Minangkabau culture. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, religious leaders, and members of the Balinese community. The results of the study show that cultural preservation is carried out through religious practices such as the Manusia Yadnya ceremony, which includes baby birth rituals (otonan), life rituals (pawiwahan and mepandes), and death rituals (ngaben). The community also maintains a patrilineal kinship system, although it has undergone adaptation in the local context. In the field of education, Balinese Hindu values are instilled through non-formal education at Pura Jagadnatha. Adaptation strategies are implemented through active social interaction, participation in interfaith organizations, and integration into community life. This study confirms that the preservation of minority cultural identity can proceed harmoniously when accompanied by an open and collaborative attitude toward the majority environment, and serves as an important contribution to strengthening multicultural values in Indonesia.

Abstract

Indonesia is rich in cultural, ethnic, religious, linguistic, and traditional diversity. This situation demands the presence of a young generation who is inclusive, open, and respect to the differences. This article aims to analyze the process of internalizing multicultural values through Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn) learning at Universitas Negeri Padang. The method used in this article is descriptive qualitative. Data were obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using triangulation techniques to ensure the validity of the findings. This study was conducted on PPKn students at Universitas Negeri Padang. The results show that the internalization of multicultural values occurs through direct experience, personal reflection, and cross-cultural social interactions. Internal factors include motivation, self-awareness, and family background, while external factors include field experience, the role of education, and positive support in developing students' attitudes of tolerance. This attitude is characterized by increased openness, empathy, adaptability, and willingness to establish harmonious relationships amidst diversity. This study confirms that multicultural-based Pancasila and Citizenship Education learning is effective in instilling the value of tolerance. This research is limited to the internalization of values in PPKn students at UNP, so the results may not be directly generalizable to other study programs or universities without further research.

Abstract

Moral degradation among students is a crucial issue in education, demanding the implementation of a character-oriented curriculum, as embodied in the “Curriculum Merdeka” with a focus on the Pancasila Student Profile (P5). This article aims to examine in-depth the implementation of the Curriculum Merdeka in one of the pioneering schools, SDN 12 Karang Tengah. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation analysis. The implementation of the curriculum in this school is analyzed based on four stages: preparation, planning, implementation, and evaluation, and is linked to the three dimensions of Thomas Lickona's moral character: moral knowing, moral loving, and moral doing. The results show that the implementation of P5 is generally effective, although it still faces obstacles, especially related to limited supporting facilities. The main limitation of this study is the scope of the study which only focuses on one school in a specific area, so generalization of the findings needs to be done carefully.
