Abstract

The Bangka Belitung Islands Province has long been known as one of the world's largest tin producers. Currently, many former tin mining areas produce holes or kulongs and are left gaping without any responsibility from mining companies. One of them is located in Perlang Village, Central Bangka Regency. Then, on the initiative of young people who were members of the tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis), this area was transformed into a tourist destination which was then much sought after by tourists, known as Lake Pading. This article discusses the actualization of civic participation carried out by young people in increasing the potential of tourist villages in Perlang Village. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection was carried out through a process of observation, interviews and document study. The results of this research show that youth participation in the revitalization of Pading Lake through voluntary cooperation has produced good results with increasing tourist visits and several awards being won. The actions taken by these young people are in line with the concept of civic participation, a citizenship concept which indicates the contribution of citizens in creating positive and beneficial social change for the wider community. The limitation of this research is that it does not look at the sustainability of revitalization efforts and citizen participation in the long term. Revitalization efforts are only the first step in civic participation, so it is hoped that future research can address these limitations.

Abstract

Community participation in social life is become social capital in the current era of globalization. Social capital, which consists of three main elements, namely: trust, norms and social networks, is an instrument that can be used to promote civic engagement. Islamic boarding schools (Pondok Pesantren) have these three elements which need to be analyzed further. This research adopted a qualitative method with a case study approach at the Pondok Buntet Pesantren in Cirebon Regency. The informants in this research were: Pesantren caregivers, ustadz-ustadzah, and students (santri). Analysis was carried out using the triangulation method. Research findings show that social capital plays a significant role in strengthening students' involvement as citizens. Elements of social capital, such as trust, norms, and social networks, are interrelated in encouraging citizen participation. It can be concluded that the development of social capital by students is the key to promoting civic engagement. However, this research only highlights three elements of social capital, so it is hoped that future research can explore other aspects of social capital that have not been covered in this research.

Abstract

This article presents a systematic literature review analyzing the existing research studies on local wisdom-based citizenship education learning. Local wisdom refers to the knowledge, values, and practices developed by a specific community or culture over generations. Citizenship education learning aims to foster active and responsible citizens who contribute to the betterment of their society. By incorporating local wisdom into citizenship education, educators can enhance students' understanding and appreciation of their local cultural heritage, environmental sustainability, and community engagement. The review focuses on identifying and synthesizing key findings, methodologies, and theoretical perspectives employed in the literature. Additionally, it explores the benefits and challenges associated with implementing local wisdom-based citizenship education learning in diverse educational settings. The review encompasses studies from various countries and contexts, including both formal and informal learning environments. Major findings indicate that local wisdom-based citizenship education enhances students' cultural identity, fosters a sense of belonging, and promotes social cohesion within communities. Moreover, the inclusion of local wisdom in citizenship education programs can facilitate students' critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and active participation in addressing local socio-cultural and environmental challenges. However, the review also highlights several challenges, such as curriculum integration, teacher training, and assessment strategies, which need to be addressed for successful implementation. Additionally, the scarcity of empirical studies and standardized measurement tools pose limitations to the understanding of the impact and efficacy of local wisdom-based citizenship education learning. To promote further research and practice in this area, the review concludes with recommendations for future studies, including the need for longitudinal research, cross-cultural comparisons, and the development of innovative pedagogical approaches. It emphasizes the significance of collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and educators to create an inclusive and culturally responsive citizenship education that draws upon local wisdom to empower students in their journey towards active and responsible citizenship.
