Abstract

Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) contains flavonoids with antioxidant activity. The present study aimed to examine the characteristics and antioxidant activity index (AAI) of roselle extract (RE) after being modified into nanoparticles chitosan of roselle (NCR). Phytochemical screening indicated that roselle extract contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins and steroid/triterpenoids compounds. The NCR was prepared using a bottom-to-up method from a cross-link reaction between chitosan and tripolyphosphate. The ratio of RE:Chitosan:Tripolyphosphate was 2:1:0.1. NCR characterization showed 464.6 nm of a particle size, 0.849 of a polydispersion index and -6.0 mV of a zeta potential. Antioxidant activity was measured by utilizing the DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 515 nm. IC50 data were analyzed using the One Way Annova test with a confidence level of 95%. Results showed that NCR had an IC50 value of 22.577 ppm (AAI:2.217), which is classified as a very strong antioxidant. The IC50 value of the RE was 77.610 ppm (AAI:0.644), which is categorized as a moderate antioxidant. The results of this study reveal that the modification of roselle extract (RE) into nanoparticles chitosan of roselle (NCR) was proven to enhance the AAI (p<0.05).

Abstract

Insecticides are a type of pesticide that is commonly used by farmers to eradicate insect pests, one of which is the stink bug. Excessive use results in resistance and contamination of soil, water, and air. Another alternative is bioinsecticides which are safe and do not cause resistance. In this study, the samples used were gadung and bintaro root extracts. The method used is maceration, after the maceration process, the filtrate will be tested on the target animal, looking for the best insecticide mortality and screening for phytochemicals. Lastly, the best bioinsecticide solutions were identified using FT-IR and UV-Vis spectrophotometers. The best bioinsecticide solutions with 60% and 40% mortality were bioinsecticides with a concentration of 70% gadung and 30% gadung 20% bintaro. Phytochemical screening tests were carried out on both of them, the results were positive for terpenoids and alkaloids. Identification using the FTIR spectrophotometer showed that the bioinsecticide solution contained secondary metabolites with O-H groups appearing at absorption wave number 3260 cm-1, C=O groups appearing at wave number 1637cm-1,, and C-H groups appearing at wave number 1359 cm-1. The results of the UV-Vis spectrum showed that the bioinsecticide solution had the C=C functional group as indicated by the appearance of peaks at a wavelength of 210 nm, 217 nm, and 223 nm.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease with high morbidity and mortality rates worldwide. Two-fifths of the population lives in areas prone to contracting the dengue virus in tropical and subtropical countries. In Indonesia, dengue disease is an endemic problem that spreads in 33 provinces. One way to prevent the transmission of DHF disease is to kill mosquitoes using mosquito repellent spray, electric or mosquito coils. Regular use of household aerosols for mosquito control is widespread, especially during outbreaks of dengue fever, chikungunya, and Zika. In this study, it will be proven whether, in the use of mosquito repellent made from active transfluthrin, the remaining residue attached to indoor items is still within safe limits if exposed to the skin or inhaled by humans. The purpose of this study was to determine the content of transfluthrin mosquito repellent pesticide residues on the surface of objects in the room still below the maximum limit required using the Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) tool as well as the development of measurement analysis methods for Lienarity, Recovery, Precision/Specivity, Quantitative Limit, and Detection Limit. The study's results on measuring Transfluthrin residues using GCMS with a data collection height of 100-200 cm obtained a concentration range of 22-149 mg/kg. Validation test of the analysis method obtained LOD: 0.005 (µg/ml), LOQ: 0.016 (µg/ml), RSD system conformance test: 0.118%, Linear Regression Linearity (r2): 0.99946, %Recovery: 102.00%, Placebo specificity: does not show a peak at Transfluthrin retention time.

Abstract

Hydrazides have been reported to have a broad spectrum of bioactivities, such as anticancer, antifungal, antibacterial, and antidiabetic. Thus, our work aimed to synthesize N'-arylidene-4-hydroxybenzohydrazides and investigate their α-glucosidase inhibition. Three compounds (AD-H1-3) were synthesized with a yield of product from 33 to 65% and then characterized using 1H-and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The in vitro α-glucosidase inhibition demonstrated that AD-H2 possessing two hydroxy groups on arylidene moiety showed the best inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase enzyme with an IC50 value of 14.4 µM compared with acarbose as a positive control with IC50 value of 93.6 µM. Thus, AD-H2 could be a candidate as a lead compound for antidiabetics.
