Abstract

Obesity among college students poses a significant health concern, as excess weight heightens the risk of various diseases. The study aims to determine the effects of a 12-week resistance band weight training program on weight loss in obese college students. This research employs an experimental method, specifically using a "One Group Pre-Post Test Design." This involves administering a pre-test before the intervention and a post-test after the intervention. The participants in this study are adolescent athletes from the State University of Jakarta. The sample consists of 30 individuals selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria: students from the State University of Jakarta, aged 16-23 years, both male and female. Data collection involves the experimental group and control group, the participant's BMI before and after the 12-week resistance band training program. BMI measurements were conducted using the OMRON brand BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) method. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 21, which includes the normality prerequisite test and is continued with the independent Sample T-Test. The results of the Independent Sample T-Test showed that the Sig value was 0.000 < 0.05. A 12-week resistance band weight training program has a significant effect on weight loss in obese college students. Therefore, the resistance band strength training model significantly influences weight loss more than traditional training methods. This suggests that resistance band training is highly effective for weight loss in adolescents aged 16-23 years and can be incorporated into physical exercise programs for this age group.

Abstract

This study addresses the limited variations in tactile movement learning, mobility, and jumping exercises that support the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective abilities of blind students with special needs. The purpose of this research is to enhance students' movement, mobility, and jumping skills through the use of embossed mat media in a frog-jumping exercise. A development method was employed, involving a small-scale trial with 3 students and a large-scale trial with 11 students. The study utilises descriptive percentage analysis and qualitative analysis methods to examine recommendations and rationales for response selection. Data from the small-scale trials show the following results: adaptive PE expert 1 at 89.33%, adaptive PE expert 2 at 93.33%, and learning expert at 80.00%. On a larger scale, adaptive PE expert 1 rated 93.33%, adaptive PE expert 2 rated 89.33%, and the learning expert rated 82.66%, yielding an average score of 88.44%. The percentage results for the embossed mat indicate that the product meets the "good" criteria based on the data analysis. The study concludes that the embossed mat media can be effectively used to teach frog jumping to blind students with special needs. It is recommended that teachers adopt this media and consider incorporating additional variations in PE learning for students with special needs.

Abstract

Effective physical training is crucial for karate athletes aiming to enhance their techniques and increase the speed of their attacks, particularly gyaku-tsuki. This study investigates the impact of rubber-based exercise on the speed of gyaku-tsuki punches among Gokasi karate athletes in Jember Regency with an age range of 16-20 years, male and female. An experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The population in this study were Gokasi Jember karate athletes in junior to senior classes, with a total of 12 athletes. The sampling technique used in this research is total sampling. Therefore, the entire population was taken as a sample of 12 athletes. Speed measurements of the gyaku-tsuki punch were taken both before and after the rubber training regimen. Data analysis using SPSS 21 covering descriptive analysis, normality test, and Paired sample Test. The paired sample test yielded a significance value of 0.000, which is below the 0.05 threshold. Analysis of the pre-test and post-test averages shows an increase from 30.67 to 31.92. These findings suggest that a four-week rubber training program positively affected Gyaku-Tsuki punch speed. Furthermore, the average results demonstrate an improvement in punch speed. These findings contribute to karate coaches and athletes applying rubber exercises to improve gyaku-tsuki punch speed. The findings also provide valuable insights for karate coaches and athletes, recommending the inclusion of rubber-based training in their routines to enhance the speed and effectiveness of gyaku-tsuki punches.

Abstract

Well-planned and structured physical training is essential for enhancing athletic performance, particularly in sports like beach volleyball that demand strength and power. This research aims to assess the effects of practice methods on the strength and power of female athletes in the Indonesian National Beach Volleyball Team. This research employs an experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design. This study used a total sampling technique to obtain 6 female athletes from the Indonesian National Beach Volleyball Team with an age range of 19-27 years. The practice method is the OPT (Optimum Performance Training) method. This research was carried out for 12 weeks with a training frequency of 3 times a week. Strength was evaluated using the 1 RM test, and power was measured with the RAST test. Analysis of this research data using SPSS 22 includes the normality test and the independent ttest. The independent T-test results indicated that the Sig value for strenght 0.01 and power 0.00 was less than 0.05, demonstrating a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The research concludes that a 12-week OPT training program significantly enhances the strength and power of female athletes on the Indonesian National Beach Volleyball Team. Based on the results of this study, the contribution that can be given to coaches is that they can apply OPT to increase the strength and power of athletes in beach volleyball and other sports.

Abstract

Resistance band training can increase muscle strength in swimmers with physical disabilities, especially because muscle strength problems often hinder achieving optimal performance. This study aimed to determine the effect of resistance band training on the muscle strength of swimmers with physical disabilities number 50 meters freestyle. This research method uses a one-group pretest-posttest design with an experimental approach. This study used a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design research design. This research instrument used a total sampling recruitment technique involving 28 Jakarta Para Swim athletes. PretestPretest and post-test tools, including a 50-meter freestyle swimming course, were used in this study. Using IBM SPSS Statistics version 27, data analysis methods included a t-test at a significant level of 0.05, normality and homogeneity tests, and prerequisite tests. The results of this study state that the average speed of 28 athletes is 42.21 freestyle meters before the test and 38.77 freestyle meters after the test there is an increase in the average speed of 50 meters freestyle by 10%, or 3.44 seconds in resistance band training for swimmers with disabilities number 50 meters freestyle with an increase of 10%, namely 3.44 seconds. These results provide a basis for disability sports coaches and practitioners to integrate resistance band training as part of a training program to improve swimming performance for athletes with physical disabilities.

Abstract

Taekwondo emphasizes kicking techniques, including elgol dollyo chagi, a spinning head kick requiring flexibility, strength, speed, coordination, and precision for optimal effectiveness. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of alternate leg bounding training on the elgol dollyo chagi performance of taekwondo athletes. It employs experimental research with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 30 taekwondo athletes selected through total sampling, meaning the entire population was used as the sample. The research instrument involves an elgol dollyo chagi performance test conducted over a duration of 30 seconds. Data analysis uses descriptive tests, and the analysis prerequisite tests with data normality and data homogeneity, and continued with hypothesis testing using the t-test with the spss program version 23. The results of the t-test value obtained were 15.455, with a pretest mean of 23.83 and a posttest mean value of 36.20. Based on these results, the p-value is greater than 0.05 and has an increase of 12.37%. The results of the study showed a significant increase in the speed of execution of the elgol dollyo chagi kick after following the alternate leg bounding training program. In addition, this research is also useful in terms of athlete physical development, including strength, agility, coordination, and injury prevention.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to see the effect of plyometric box drill innovation on youth players at a leg power in soccer. This study used a quantitative approach, the type of research was experimental research, the research design used a non-rondomized group pretest-posttest, the sample numbered 65 players, while the leg power data was collected using a digital jump meter test instrument. The data gathered from participants were analyzed using SPSS software version 24, applying paired sample t-tests and independent sample t-tests with a significance level of 0.05. The results indicated that the two-tailed significance value was 0.000, which is below 0.05. This outcome suggests that the plyometric box drill innovation for youth soccer players had a statistically significant effect. The conclusion of this study states that the innovative plyometric box drill developed for youth soccer players at soccer schools in Tuban can increase leg power. This study showed that the plyometric box drill significantly improved the leg strength of young soccer players, which can be applied as an innovative training method in local soccer schools. The findings provide a basis for developing plyometric-based training programs that are more effective in preparing young players for the physical challenges in football.

Abstract

Physical fitness is often linked to various cognitive and academic benefits, with numerous studies suggesting that physical ability may influence students' learning outcomes. Understanding this relationship is crucial for promoting holistic education that balances physical and intellectual development. This study investigates the correlation between students' physical ability and academic performance using a quantitative approach and a descriptive research design. The sample was selected through purposive sampling. Data collection involved physical ability tests and academic performance scores obtained from students' reportbooks. The physical ability tests included the Vertical Jump, Sprint, Ruler Drop Test, Zigzag Run Test, Hand Wall Toss Test, and Pacer Test. Data were analyzed using correlation formulas to determine the relationship between each physical ability measure and academic performance. The results revealed varying degrees of correlation: the Vertical Jump test showed a direct correlation (r = 0.0026), the Sprint test indicated no significant correlation (r = -0.065), the Ruler Drop test demonstrated an indirect correlation (r = -0.013), the Hand Wall Toss test indicated a direct correlation (r = 0.009), the Zigzag Run test suggested an indirect correlation (r = -0.062), and the Pacer test showed an indirect correlation (r = -0.008). These findings suggest that some physical abilities may have a small direct or indirect relationship with academic performance, while others show no significant correlation. The findings suggest that creating well-rounded athletes requires attention to intellectual development alongside physical training, ensuring a balanced approach to nurturing future champions.

Abstract

Conventional training models that only focus on repetitive techniques without variety, such as static exercises or monotonous drilling, are often considered inefficient for the 13-15-year-old age group. This approach tends to be boring, lacks motivational aspects, and does not fully develop all-around motor skills as the game-based R.A. model does. This research aims to see how effective the game-based Resistance and Aerobic training (R.A.) physical training model is in the long jump for the 13-15-year-old age group, which has been developed previously. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design (one-group pretest-posttest) to measure the model's effectiveness. The sample consisted of 60 students aged 13-15 years old who were purposively selected. The test instruments used in this research were the physical test of running 30 meters, jumping three times, dynamic balance test, and flexibility. The analysis test uses statistics (t-test) to evaluate the effectiveness of the model. The results showed a significant increase between the pretest and posttest results. These results prove that the R.A. model is more effective than the monotonous conventional method in improving physical abilities and long jump technique. This game-based approach also positively impacted overall motor skill development, making it an innovative and relevant training alternative for the 13-15 age group. These findings make an important contribution to the development of sports training methods, particularly the long jump.

Abstract

Limited diversity in learning approaches frequently results in suboptimal gross motor development among younger students. A play-based approach enhances motor development in a manner that is both more engaging and effective. Exploring a robust game-oriented pedagogical framework aimed at improving the gross motor abilities of elementary students. Utilizing game-based approaches in physical education enhances the engagement and efficacy of the learning experience, particularly in fostering motor development. This study employed a classroom action research methodology, focusing on students from elementary school Unggulan Putra Kaili Permata Bangsa in Palu City. The research utilized total sampling, encompassing a cohort of 25 students from the lower grades. This research instrument employs a performance rubric to analyze gross motor assessment in lower-grade children, a methodology that has been substantiated by experts in their respective fields. Analysis of data using the traditional completeness formula. The findings indicated that the initial percentage prior to the cycle stood at 4%; during cycle I, it escalated to 24%, and in cycle II, it reached an impressive 96%. The results indicated a progressive increase in each cycle, specifically demonstrating an improvement of 92% from the initial cycle to cycle II. The overall proficiency in gross motor skills among the students of Elementary school Unggulan Putra Kaili Permata Bangsa in Palu City is noteworthy. This research presents a novel, more comprehensive, contextualized, and purposeful approach to play-based physical learning aimed at tackling the challenges encountered by low-grade students in their gross motor development.
