Abstract

Green or environmentally friendly entrepreneurial behaviour is independent business behaviour whose practices pay attention to the balance between economic aspects, organizational aspects and community aspects. The degradation of the quality of life's welfare forces humans to pay full attention to social, environmental and economic aspects as an embodiment of the concept of sustainable development, namely efforts to fulfil the needs of life today so as not to ignore the ability of future generations to be able to meet their needs. The aim of this activity is to improve technical and managerial skills in environmentally friendly entrepreneurs, build self-confidence, and empower women who work in the green economy sector in Batu City. Through the use of workshop-based methods, participants were trained to enhance environmental awareness and to manage their businesses in a more environmentally friendly manner. The outcomes of the activity included a significant improvement in participants' understanding of the importance of applying sustainability principles in business operations. Furthermore, the program successfully empowered women entrepreneurs by instilling a green entrepreneurship mindset that can drive economic growth, create job opportunities, and deliver substantial benefits to both society and the environment. This was reflected in the participants' enthusiasm during discussion sessions and their active engagement through questions, which facilitated a deeper understanding of the topics presented. The conclusion from this activity is that environmentally friendly entrepreneurship has a strategic role in supporting sustainable practices through a balance between economic, social and environmental aspects.

Abstract

The rapid growth of startups in Indonesia, particularly in the Malang Raya, continues to be accompanied by a high rate of business failure, largely due to low financial management literacy. Limited knowledge in financial management remains a major contributing factor to bankruptcy. This activity aims to enhance the understanding and skills of startup actors in detecting financial distress through financial performance assessment within the startup community in Malang Raya. The methods employed in this activity are service learning and community development, implemented through training and mentoring in the form of workshops. The workshop covers topics such as Financial Accounting Standards (SAK), Micro, Small, and Medium Entities (EMKM), cash management, and bankruptcy detection techniques, alongside practical sessions on financial statement preparation. The results of the activity show a significant increase in participants' understanding of the importance of sound financial management and early detection of financial distress. Most participants expressed high satisfaction and a strong willingness to apply the knowledge gained to the management of their businesses. These outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of the workshop approach in strengthening startups’ financial managerial capacity, reducing bankruptcy risks, and promoting business sustainability in the Malang Raya. In conclusion, the training successfully addresses the urgent need of startup communities to improve their financial competencies. It is recommended that similar activities be conducted regularly, foster networking among entrepreneurs, and incorporate innovative financial materials to build a resilient and sustainable startup ecosystem.

Abstract

The tourism sector plays a strategic role in Indonesia’s economy, including in East Java Province, which holds significant potential but whose contribution to the Regional Gross Domestic Product (RGDP) remains limited. This activity aims to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of MSMEs in the tourism sector through service excellence training and social media marketing mentoring. The method involves several stages: problem identification through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), training sessions, mentoring, and evaluation of MSME progress. The FGDs revealed two primary challenges: low service quality and limited utilisation of social media for marketing. The service excellence training focused on improving customer service capabilities, while the social media marketing mentoring emphasised practical skills in creating digital content and using analytical tools. The results demonstrated increased knowledge and understanding among participants regarding the importance of service quality and digital marketing strategies. However, regular activity on social media remains limited due to time constraints and resource limitations. Enhancing the understanding of service excellence and boosting marketing efforts via social media are essential for helping tourism-related MSMEs in East Java to survive and grow. In conclusion, the training and mentoring initiatives proved effective in strengthening the capacity of tourism MSMEs. It is recommended that follow-up actions include advanced training and ongoing technical support to ensure the sustainability of digital transformation and service quality improvement, which in turn will contribute to competitive tourism and local economic growth.

Abstract

The main risk factor for cervical cancer is Human Pappiloma Virus (HPV) infection. One of the primary prevention efforts that can be done is HPV vaccination, which has been proven effective in reducing the risk of women being exposed to HPV infection. In Indonesia, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women after breast cancer. West Sumatra Province has the highest prevalence of cervical cancer, which is ranked second in Indonesia at 2.47 per 1000 population. The government has made it mandatory to provide free HPV vaccination for school children to prevent cervical cancer in the future, but the vaccination coverage is still low due to various anti-vaccine stigmas, many refusals from parents for vaccines. The existence of this rejection and stigma is a lack of information to the public about the effectiveness of the HPV vaccine. Therefore, it is necessary to socialize and educate the target of HPV vaccination to elementary school children in grades 5 and 6. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge of school students about cervical cancer and its prevention with health education. The activity was held at SDN 44 Kalumbuk, Padang. The method in service begins with situation analysis, preparation and planning of activities, implementation, and evaluation. The results of the activity were an increase in the average knowledge of participants from 62.5 to 76.3 with an average increase of 13.8 points. This educational activity can increase participants' knowledge about cancer.

Abstract

Today's adolescents face serious challenges related to smoking behavior. This is a crucial issue that requires immediate action through effective educational methods. An interactive educational approach that actively involves adolescents is considered more successful in addressing this issue. This community service activity aims to increase motivation to quit smoking and prevent students of SMPN 23 Padang from starting to smoke for the first time. The aim is to enhance students' understanding of the dangers of smoking through an engaging educational approach. The program will be implemented from October to December 2024, adopting interactive methods such as counseling, emotionally arousing demonstrations, group discussions, experiments, and educational games. The active involvement of students, teachers, and school student organizations (OSIS) will ensure the creation of a school environment that supports a healthy lifestyle. The success of this program is expected to be seen from the high enthusiasm of students and the active participation of teachers. To ensure sustainability, Anti-Smoking Ambassadors will be established, who will continue the prevention and education efforts after the main program ends. The results of this initiative show that a participatory education approach is a practical strategic solution in reducing smoking prevalence among adolescents. It is also an essential step in creating a smoking-free younger generation. It is hoped that this program can be continued sustainably. In addition, it is hoped that this activity can be developed and implemented in the broader area to provide a greater positive impact in preventing smoking among adolescents.

Abstract

Stunting represents a critical public health issue that significantly impairs children's growth and development, particularly during the golden window of the first 1,000 days of life. One of the major contributing factors to the high prevalence of stunting in Indonesia is the limited maternal knowledge and inadequate early detection of child development. This community engagement initiative aimed to enhance maternal awareness regarding stunting prevention and to conduct early developmental screening using the Pre-Screening Developmental Questionnaire (Kuesioner Pra-Skrining Perkembangan/KPSP) at community health posts (Posyandu) in RW 8, 9, and 10 of Korong Gadang Sub-district, Padang City. The methods employed included health education through interactive discussions supported by leaflets, assessment of maternal knowledge via pre-test and post-test questionnaires, and developmental observation of children using the KPSP tool. The target participants were mothers of children under five years of age. The results indicated a significant increase in maternal knowledge, with the average score rising from 79.7 in the pre-test to 86.5 in the post-test. Additionally, early developmental screening revealed that the majority of children were within the age-appropriate development category. The findings suggest that nutrition and health education can effectively enhance maternal knowledge and support stunting prevention at the community level. Furthermore, the educational intervention demonstrated a positive impact on stunting prevention and the optimisation of child growth and development.

Abstract

Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) still poses a health concern in Indonesia, including in Tarakan, some cases are caused by infections and diarrhea. Exclusive breastfeeding can help prevent these conditions in infants. The extent of this practice can be observed through exclusive breastfeeding coverage in the community. Limited maternal understanding of the advantages of breastfeeding for both the baby and the mother is frequently linked to low coverage. One effective strategy to address this issue is providing structured and effective education. This activity aimed to improve pregnant women’s understanding of exclusive breastfeeding. It was conducted on August 23, 2024, at the home of a community health volunteer in Juata Laut Subdistrict, North Tarakan. The method was a lecture combined with a health education approach and was attended by seven pregnant women and held alongside a routine antenatal class. The assessment instrument used was a 15-item questionnaire on exclusive breastfeeding, with a validity score of 0.973. Three stages made up the activity: preparation, carrying out the activity, and post-test evaluation. Results showed that 5 out of 7 participants (71%) had good knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding. However, 4 participants (57%) believed that breastfeeding leads to weight gain, 1 participant (14%) did not recognize its role in preventing breast cancer, and 5 participants (71%) were unaware of its contraceptive function. Health education proved effective in increasing knowledge, though continued and comprehensive efforts during pregnancy are needed to support optimal breastfeeding practices.

Abstract

Basic life skills serve as a fundamental pillar in shaping students' character to become healthy, independent, and empowered from an early age. This programme aimed to enhance students’ basic life skills through the implementation of the Healthy School Programme at SDN 2 Petuk Katimpun, Palangka Raya. Activities were conducted over a three-month period, from August to October 2024, encompassing the following stages: problem identification, socialisation, focus group discussions, training, mentoring, and evaluation. The interventions included the formation of peer support groups, education on balanced nutrition, life skills training, waste management based on the 3R principles (reduce, reuse, recycle), and the organisation of the Healthy and Creative Children’s Festival. The results indicated a significant improvement in students' knowledge scores (from 65.1 to 73.6) and attitudes (from 55.2 to 70.4) regarding healthy behaviours. The establishment of peer groups as educators proved effective in supporting behavioural changes, particularly in promoting healthy packed meals and waste sorting. Educational activities such as the nutrition-themed snakes and ladders game and crafts made from plastic waste successfully increased students’ engagement in an enjoyable and participatory manner. In conclusion, an educational and participatory approach grounded in life skills development was found to be effective in supporting the implementation of a healthy school environment. Sustainability of the programme is recommended through cross-sectoral collaboration and the development of replicable educational media. This model may serve as a reference for similar initiatives in other schools, particularly in areas facing environmental and behavioural challenges.
