Abstract

This study examines a community empowerment initiative in Dirgantara Village in Yogyakarta that focuses on producing dry maggots to address challenges in waste management and economic development. The project targets the issue of organic waste by using maggots, specifically the larvae of the Black Soldier Fly, to efficiently decompose organic material. This method not only mitigates environmental pollution but also creates a valuable product that can be sold as animal feed, offering a sustainable income source for the community. The initiative uses a problem-based learning approach, engaging local residents through educational workshops and practical demonstrations to improve their understanding and skills in organic waste management. Results show a significant increase in community members' understanding and awareness of sustainable waste practices. The Dirgantara Village project demonstrates how integrating innovative and sustainable practices can effectively address ecological challenges and enhance economic prospects, serving as a model for other communities facing similar issues.

Abstract

Although entrepreneurship training is commonly conducted for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), entrepreneurship training that integrates digital marketing and technical proficiency with a narrative inquiry approach is rarely implemented in Islamic boarding school or pesantren. This narrative inquiry research for community service program aimed to develop and implement an integrated training program that includes excellent service training, local coffee processing, and digital marketing at entrepreneurship-based Islamic boarding schools. Thirteen participants from a pesantren and a entrepreneurship-partner participated in this study. Data were collected from observation and unstructured interviews spanning five months. Drawing on community engagement theory, the findings identified three micro themes: active participation and community involvement; multidisciplinary collaboration and synergy; and empowerment and self-transformation. The contribution of this present study is to provide empirical and practical evidence regarding how community engagement perspective can describe to what extent digital marketing and technical proficiency help micro, small, and medium enterprises in pesantren.

Abstract

This study examines the role of a community-based coffee shop as an entrepreneurial ecosystems that serve as the hub for economic activities among local citizens. Utilizing an action research approach, the community service team engaged directly in the field, facilitating the coffee shop’s collaboration with various stakeholders to foster value creation. The action research methodology involves an iterative process of planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection, rather than being a one-time intervention. The team worked closely with stakeholders to establish an entrepreneurial ecosystem within the coffee shop venue, aiming to actualize co-value creation. In this context, value creation is collaborative among ecosystem participants and is not merely linear; the coffee shop cannot simply offer products and expect customers to visit. Key stakeholders in this entrepreneurial ecosystem include farmers, government agencies, educational institutions, hobby clubs, training providers, and others. The coffee shop must orchestrate these stakeholders to ensure value creation that benefits the wider community. The enhancement of community economic well-being is evidenced by increased economic activity around the coffee shop area.

Abstract

In the modern era, environmental issues have become a global concern, with waste management emerging as a primary focus. This research aims to analyze the role of communication campaigns in public education, specifically to increase student participation in recycling activities. The study employs a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach with a case study method to explore how communication campaigns can shape public awareness, attitudes, and behaviors towards recycling. The findings indicate that effective communication campaigns, which include the use of social media, direct outreach, and collaboration with local communities, can enhance students' understanding of the importance of recycling and motivate them to actively participate. Additionally, the research reveals that recycling participation increases when communication campaigns are tailored to the local context and involve active student participation. Therefore, this study concludes that public education through communication campaigns is a crucial strategy for increasing recycling participation and can contribute to environmental preservation, particularly at UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan. The implications of these findings suggest the need for more focused and sustainable communication campaigns to maximize the impact of public education on recycling participation.

Abstract

The empowerment of the community in Tunggularum, Wonokerto, aims to optimize lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) cultivation into essential oil products through community-based training and practical skills development. Lemongrass is widely cultivated in the area but is underutilized due to limited knowledge of its potential economic value, particularly in essential oil production. This community service project focused on addressing this gap through two primary activities: a socialization session on the essential oil distillation process and hands-on training in the operation of distillation equipment. The project involved 20–25 local participants, predominantly women, who attended both the theoretical and practical sessions. The results showed significant improvements in the participants' knowledge and skills. Over 70% of participants reported feeling more capable of managing the local lemongrass resources and demonstrated an enhanced understanding of the distillation process. The training also fostered new skills in operating distillation equipment, which further encouraged the participants to explore the business potential of lemongrass essential oil production.

Abstract

The world of education needs to keep up with the development of information technology in providing learning services for students. One of the tools that is currently widely known for its advantages and widely used in developed countries is the electronic portfolio. The background of this program is a problem that is often faced by schools, namely the lack of teacher competence in developing learning by utilizing electronic portfolios in teaching. SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta (SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta), as one of the private schools in Yogyakarta that has a high concern for the application of information technology in learning, in collaboration with the Community Service Team of Ahmad Dahlan University carried out an electronic portfolio-based learning development training which was attended by teachers of various subjects and education staff who served in various school service units. The objective of this activity is to improve teachers' understanding and skills by using electronic portfolios to support the realization of quality learning. The methods used are training and mentoring for teachers to develop electronic portfolio- based learning, improving internet infrastructure, and monitoring and evaluation. This training has resulted in an increase in the trainees' understanding of the concept of electronic portfolios and the improvement of participants' skills as shown by a total of 43 participants who have been able to develop their electronic portfolios. To ensure the implementation of electronic portfolios in schools, the Principal has decided that six classes with IT (Information Technology) specialization consisting of two learning groups from Grade 7, Grade 8, and Grade 9 will implement electronic portfolio-based learning. The impact of this training is that teachers have a positive mindset towards the use of information technology so that it further increases the opportunity for schools to improve the quality of learning in accordance with technological developments.
