Abstract

This research aims to explore the influence of a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)-based teacher professional development model with the Pentahelix strategy on elementary school students' critical thinking and problem solving abilities. The Pentahelix strategy involves synergy between five main elements: government, academia, industry, community and media, which together support and develop teacher competence. The research method used is a quasi-experimental research method which consists of 2 research groups, namely an experimental group and a control group with nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The sample for this research was students from classes VA and VB at SD Negeri Katulampa 5. Class VA was the experimental group with learning using a STEM approach provided by teachers who had received training, and class VB was the control group with learning without a STEM approach by teachers who had not received training. . The results showed that there was a significant increase in students' critical thinking and problem solving abilities in the experimental group compared to the control group. Teachers trained with a STEM-based professional development model show improvements in conceptual understanding, teaching abilities, and the ability to design learning activities that are challenging and relevant for students. The conclusion of this research is that the STEM-based teacher professional development model with the Pentahelix strategy is effective in improving elementary school students' critical thinking and problem solving skills. The implications of these findings support the importance of collaboration between various parties in improving the quality of education and provide recommendations for policy makers to adopt a similar approach in teacher development programs.

Abstract

Inclusive education was introduced in 2003 as a government initiative to deliver harmonious, equal, and just educational services to Indonesia's heterogeneous population. By 2022, 36,000 educational institutions had embraced it. Regulations are issued regularly to guide its implementation, including Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System (Chapter IV, Articles 5 and 32), Minister of National Education Regulation No. 70 of 2009 on Inclusive Education, and Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Decree No. 56/M/2022 on Curriculum Implementation Guidelines emphasizing diversification. Examining inclusive education in elementary schools is critical to developing a viable model for its implementation in junior and senior high schools. However, field research demonstrates discrepancies between regulations and real practices. This study focuses on public elementary schools in Bandung, with both education providers and recipients. The research takes a qualitative approach, examining regulations and implementation recommendations for inclusive education in elementary schools. The findings indicate that inclusive education in public elementary schools has not been implemented following rules and guidelines.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze changes in students' social attitudes through the use of quizizz-based assessments. Effective learning involves not only the transfer of knowledge, but also the development of social attitudes and interaction skills. The method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design, namely pretest-posttest control group. The study population consisted of students in grades III-VI of SD N Pengkok 3 who were assumed to be able to operate gadgets. The sample taken by random sampling was 20 students from grade V. Data were collected through a validated social attitude questionnaire, and analyzed using a paired sample t-test after going through normality and homogeneity tests. The results of the analysis showed that the significance value of the t-test was 0.041 in the experimental group and 0.005 in the control group, which was smaller than 0.05, indicating a significant difference between social attitudes before and after using quizizz. The N Gain test showed a more significant increase in the experimental class with an average N Gain value of 0.3553 (moderate category), compared to the control class which only reached 0.1235 (low category). The results of the independent t-test showed that social attitudes in the experimental class were better than those in the control class with a significance value of 0.021. Thus, the use of quizizz-based assessments has proven effective in providing changes in students' social attitudes, strengthening interaction and collaboration among students.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a local potential-based learning model to enhance elementary school students' critical thinking skills. Local potential-based learning is expected to utilize the wisdom and resources available in the surrounding environment as relevant and engaging learning materials for students. This learning model is designed to strengthen student involvement in the learning process, foster curiosity, and develop essential analytical and problem-solving skills for critical thinking. The approach involves integrating local materials, such as history, culture, and local social issues, into teaching activities. This study uses a simplified development method divided into three stages: preliminary study, development stage, and model effectiveness testing stage. The development stage begins with needs analysis, design, trial, and model evaluation. The research findings indicate that during the model evaluation stage, the effectiveness test results in SDN Bunikasih 1 as Experiment Class 1 reached an average % N-gain value of 55.05%, and model evaluation in Experiment Class 2 SDN Sukawangi 2 showed an average % N-gain value of 55.09%. Thus, the application of the local potential-based learning model is quite effective in helping improve students' critical thinking skills. The conclusion of this study is expected to contribute significantly to the development of a more contextual curriculum, enhance students' critical thinking skills, and encourage them to better understand and appreciate the local potential in their surroundings.
