Abstract

Education inequality between villages and cities is a common issue, with villages often experiencing difficulties in accessing adequate education facilities. Village governments have an important role in improving the quality of education. This article uses qualitative research methods to understand the context, dynamics and complexities of education policies and their impact on communities. The Surabaya village government has developed an education policy that focuses on improving education in its area. This policy has shown positive impacts, but education policy evaluation is crucial to ensure sustainability and continuous improvement. Evaluations help identify weaknesses and challenges faced in implementing education policies so that improvements can be made and more effective strategies can be developed. Limited resources, facilities and competent teaching staff are some of the most significant challenges in improving the quality of education in Surabaya Village. PMM played a crucial role in the evaluation of the village's education policy, assisting in data collection and analysis, direct observation, community empowerment, and the development of recommendations for improvement. With the involvement of independent student exchanges, the village administration gains a more in-depth and comprehensive view of the effectiveness of education policies, which ultimately contributes to improving the quality of education in the village.

Abstract

Students' anxiety in speaking English has become a major concern in the context of second language learning. This research aims to identify factors that influence students' anxiety when speaking English and its impact on their speaking abilities. The research focused on grade 9 junior high school students in Indonesia. selected based on their experiences in speaking English during English class. The research method involves surveys and interviews with English students at various school levels. Using a comprehensive approach, this research aims to understand the internal and external factors contributing to students' anxiety levels when communicating in English. The findings highlight the prevalence of internal factors, notably fear of making mistakes (69.6%), and external factors like limited vocabulary (87%). This anxiety correlates with students' diminished speaking skills, evident in avoidance behaviors and less coherent speech. To mitigate these challenges, tailored learning strategies are imperative to boost students' confidence in English. Proactive measures should target building self-assurance, overcoming fear of errors, and actively expanding vocabulary. By addressing these concerns, educators can foster an environment conducive to enhanced English communication skills among students’.

Abstract

One part of the avocado (Persea americana Mill.) that is often unused and considered waste is the avocado seed. Avocado seeds have the potential to be made into an extract because they contain antioxidant compounds. The aim of this research was to determine the highest antioxidant activity, total phenolic and total flavonoid content in methanol and chloroform extracts, and to determine the relationship between total phenolic and total flavonoid content on the IC50values of methanol and chloroform extracts. Antioxidant activity was tested using the DPPH method. Data analysis used the classic assumption test, independent sample t-test, and Pearson correlation test. The results showed that the highest IC50 was found in the chloroform extract at 349.28 ± 137.29 µg/mL DW. The highest phenolic content was found in the methanol extract at 2,419.51 ± 389.54 mgGAE/g DW. The highest total flavonoid content was found in the chloroform extract at 232.13 ± 54.32 mgQE/g DW. Based on the Pearson correlation test, the total flavonoid content had a correlation (0.028<0.05) with the IC50 value of methanol and chloroform extracts of avocado seeds, while the total phenolic content had no correlation (0.749>0.05) with the IC50 value of methanol and chloroform extracts of avocado seeds
