Abstract

Stunting is a condition where a child's height does not match the standard at 2-5 years old. If proper stunting correction is not carried out, it will cause the development and growth of children to be inappropriate for their age. The most appropriate stunting correction is by providing balanced nutrition. Health cadres are elements of society that are expected to be pioneers in improving the healthy behavior of the community. Providing education and training to health cadres on age-appropriate complementary food processing is one step that is expected to improve the ability of cadres to provide a balanced complementary food menu for toddlers.  From the results of this community service, it was found that there was an increase in the knowledge and skills of cadres in processing balanced nutritious local food ingredients for toddlers.

Abstract

Learning videos can be used as a learning tool. Learning videos have several advantages, including providing convenience in undergoing the learning process without being bound by space and time, and material can be repeated independently. Many learning videos can be accessed on social media. To facilitate learners in learning and attract their attention, learning videos must be made creatively and innovatively. One of the applications to create learning videos is Open Broadcaster Software (OBS). This community service uses the application to socialize to educators in the hope that educators can be helped in making interesting learning videos. Previously, OBS had never been used by educators in delivering material. This community service was attended by 40 Muhammadiyah high school teachers in Jakarta. On the first day of community service, the speaker explained about learning videos with OBS. On the second day, participants were asked to make their learning videos with the help of the community service team. Furthermore, participants presented the results of their work. Participants felt that it would be easier to convey material with learning videos and could be more creative with OBS.

Abstract

The government plans to introduce programming languages, commonly called coding. Students must be able to understand how to program an application and not only be a user but it is expected that students have the provision to develop the technology. The utilization of technology encourages humans to use it for the right things. The participatory method is carried out through four stages: focus group discussion (FGD), socialization, training, and evaluation. The subjects of this PKM are teachers and 7th-grade junior high school students in Yogyakarta. Grade 7 students are expected to start learning programming languages as early as possible. Using the Python application, students can learn programming for math learning. Math is often considered a difficult lesson; with this training, students become happy to explore. The training conducted can be used to learn the basics of Python and create formulas to calculate the area of flat buildings.

Abstract

Higher Education Quality Assurance is a systemic activity to improve the quality of Higher Education in a planned and sustainable manner. Quality assurance in higher education is carried out through the establishment, implementation, evaluation, control, and improvement of Higher Education Standards known as the PDCA cycle. In order to implement the Higher Education Quality Assurance System in tertiary institutions, this community service activity provides training and assistance to private universities in Dumai City in the preparation of university internal quality assurance system (SPMI) documents. The Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education does not set a policy of one SPMI implementation model for all Universities, but provides inspiration on the implementation of essential things in SPMI that are required by laws and regulations. Therefore, universities are expected to develop an appropriate SPMI pattern for the state of the university itself. However, not all universities have the same understanding of the implementation of SPMI in accordance with the law. One of them was experienced by partners in this community service activity, namely 7 private universities in Dumai City. The Riau University PKM team participated in helping partner universities to assist in the preparation of SPMI documents based on the condition of partner universities through the Riau University Postgraduate PKM funds. The activity preparation period to activity reporting is 8 weeks. The target of the activity that has been produced is the preparation of the SPMI document at one of the partner universities.

Abstract

Ownership of toilets has long been an environmental sanitation problem in the coastal areas of Sembilan Island which are generally inhabited by residents with improper domestic wastewater (black water) treatment. Most of the people in the area use a “slung” type of toilet in their house, which results in direct contacts of their domestic wastewater, such as black water or feces, with nearby bodies of water. Additionally, these coastal communities openly defecate in the seafront at night. The implementation of community service is carried out in 4 stages, namely: socialization of innovative technology and FGDs, workshops, training in making innovative floating latrine technology, and assistance in installing floating/tidal latrines. The socialization was carried out at the sub-district level by inviting residents and related stakeholders, which was then followed by FGDs to explore problems and find solutions to sanitation-related issues. The workshop was conducted by making a manual for the management of floating/tidal latrines. The training on making floating/tidal latrine technology is only for the residents of Pulau Sembilan. Lastly, assistance was provided for the installation of floating latrines in a predetermined location. This community service resulted in the development of innovative floating / tidal latrine technologies that meet sanitation standards, making it easier for residents of Pulau Sembilan to defecate without violating health and hygiene standards. This technology has also been successfully developed and implemented at a relatively affordable cost with the hope that this innovation can be easily duplicated by other communities in Pulau Sembilan.

Abstract

This community service programme was conducted in the form of an English communication empowerment programme for employees of OHANA, a disability rights organisation based in Yogyakarta. The programme consisted of ten 90-minute meetings conducted from early October 2022 up to mid-November 2022. The materials of this training included self-introduction, introducing others, making small talks with a wide range of topics, as well as job descriptions and job responsibilities. The programme was conducted in response to the need for OHANA employees to make more effective communications with foreign partners concerning their jobs as advocates of the rights of women and persons with disability. Despite the low attendance rate in some of the meetings due to the tight schedules of the OHANA employees in providing services to the community, the language empowerment programme can be considered successful seen from the engagement of the attending participants and the generally positive feedback from them. Several conclusions and recommendations are stated considering the degree of success of this programme for the betterment of future similar programmes.
