Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) was increased in Pontianak. The Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of Puskesmas Perumnas II, as one of the primary health centers in Pontianak, has applied the Diabetes Mellitus Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) to overcome this problem. The Puskesmas Perumnas II involves non-medical workers through training to serve as officers who assist in implementing the Prolanis program. In this program, Pharmacists provide knowledge for non-medical workers through education and counseling related to DM treatment. In this community service activity (PKM), we aim to educate these non-health officers of Prolanis in Puskesmas Perumnas II regarding the knowledge of prevention and management of diabetes mellitus. As the method, we prepared the timeline activity, including orientation and coordination with Puskesmas Perumnas II, selecting the non-health officers of Prolanis as the participants, providing the materials (pocketbook and video), implementation of activities (conducting pre-tests, materials, and media transfers to participants, discussions, debriefings, post-tests, and evaluation through questionnaires), and data analysis. We found that participants' knowledge was increased related to DM and its treatment based on the average of pre-test and post-test results, such as 59.75 and 73.25, respectively. Evaluation of this education method through questionnaires showed that participants felt the material provided was very interesting, and participants gained new knowledge through the educational media provided.

Abstract

The cases of anemia in adolescent women in Indonesia are still relatively high. There was an increase in the prevalence of anemia from 2013 to 2018 among the 15-24 year age group, from 18.4% to 32% or 14.7 million people. Anemia or low Hb levels caused by a lack of nutrients is characterized by a disturbance in hemoglobin synthesis due to a lack of nutrients that play a role in the formation of hemoglobin either due to lack of iron consumption or impaired absorption. The data on the children's health report from the Sumedang Health Office shows that adolescent women in Conggeang Junior High School are the second largest out of 29 sub-districts in the Sumedang area who are at risk of anemia, which is 58 people. The purpose of this community service is to increase the knowledge and understanding of students of Conggeang 1 Junior High School about anemia so that it can prevent anemia and, ultimately, the growth and development of children. The method used is to provide health education about anemia, iron-containing nutrition, and about blood-added tablets. The result of this community service is an increase in knowledge of the pre-test scores of participants in the implementation of health education by 48%, while the post-test scores of as much as 90.28%.

Abstract

Teachers are professional educators with the main task of educating, teaching, guiding, directing, training, assessing, and evaluating students in early childhood education, formal education, basic education, and secondary education. Teachers also have the responsibility to produce professional development works in the form of books, modules, or scientific articles. This is the background for implementing community service at SMPN 3 Saradan, Madiun, by the lecturers of the Mathematics Department, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga. The step of community service activities includes how to write scientific papers, which is followed by assignments for the preparation of scientific papers for teachers as training output. The results of the feedback from the training participants showed a positive response from the participants regarding the selection of topics, the capabilities of the speaker, and the training facilities. Training activities attended by teachers accompanied by assignments and assistance in the preparation of scientific articles have succeeded in increasing teacher competence in making scientific articles. Furthermore, similar programs need to be priority programs for stakeholders, including schools and governments.

Abstract

Reducing the incidence of stunting in Indonesia is a top priority in overcoming health problems. Mesjid Ward, Samarinda City, is one of the areas that has a high prevalence of stunting, with as many as 34 children in 2020. Efforts to overcome this problem need to use unconventional food ingredients that contain adequate nutrition, are affordable, and are easy to obtain. Soybean husk, which has a high protein and fiber content, has the potential to be utilized in efforts to fulfill stunting children's nutrition. Community service activities aim to increase the utilization of soybean husk as processed healthy nuggets, increase public knowledge regarding stunting, and improve community skills in processing soybean husk-based nuggets—activities carried out by providing counseling and training. The results of this activity indicated that there was a significant change in the community's knowledge after giving the material (p-value <0.001). The knowledge about stunting and how to use soybean husk in processed food products has increased among the public.

Abstract

The trend of healthy living has become a choice for the wider community. One way to support a healthy life is by planting various plants, which are a source of natural vitamins and herbal medicines. Communities in the Kupang City area are also moved to follow the growing trend of healthy living, namely, back to nature. In supporting the community's activities of growing plants for daily consumption and sources of herbal medicines, the effort that can be taken is to provide natural fertilizers that can be obtained quickly and cheaply by the community. Therefore, this community service activity responds to the phenomenon by teaching the manufacture of organic fertilizer from wood waste. This activity can be a business option for the community to create a new source of income. The community is also equipped with knowledge about business management so that they can run new types of businesses. The method used in this PKM activity is to conduct initial discussions with people who are willing to produce organic fertilizer from wood waste, conduct surveys of furniture business locations in the Kupang City area to obtain wood sawdust raw materials, carry out the organic fertilizer production process, mentoring product packaging, product labeling, and marketing, as well as explaining simple business management processes that the community can apply. The output of this PKM is wood waste organic fertilizer products, product labeling, and a simple business management model.

Abstract

Hospitals are one of the health services that are required to improve the quality of services that depend on the ability of human resources (HR). Therefore, planning HR needs must be calculated precisely based on needs. There are various approaches to calculating health workers, including the WISN method, where the calculation is based on workload. The purpose of this community service is to socialize the WISN software from WHO. This activity partnered with three hospitals, namely RSUD Subang with 16 people, RSUD Dr Slamet Garut with 18 participants, and RSUD Kota Bandung with 17 people. The activity is in progress from November to December 2023 and is carried out hybridly. The offline meeting was given a pre-test, then WISN socialization was carried out, and at the end, a post-test was given. Meanwhile, the online meeting invited speakers related to the WISN software application technicalities through the Zoom meeting application. Participants who attended were 51 people, consisting of hospital management. The pre-test results showed a mean value of 8.92 while the post-test value was 11.00, and the T-test results obtained a value of 0.02 (sig >0.05), meaning that there was an increase between the pre-test and post-test with an average increase of 2.29. The workshops and trainings went well. The hospital plans to calculate the workload using the WISN software as a comparison with the existing methods in the hospital.

Abstract

Several carbohydrate source plants are well known to the people of Indonesia, seven of which are corn, bananas, sago, cassava, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and taro. Simultaneous efforts by introducing the potential of these plants to be used as culinary products is one thing that can be done. Vocational High Schools (SMK) with culinary expertise can help. Based on this, community service activities were carried out by a team from Palangka Raya University with a target of 40 students and teachers at SMK Negeri 3 Palangka Raya. Activities were carried out by outreach, consultation, interactive discussion, and hands-on practice of introducing and making cakes made from non-rice and wheat, as well as surveys of perceptions. This activity aims to provide socialization about non-rice and wheat carbohydrate source plants, nutritional value, and using safe chemicals for food. After this work was carried out, 51.40% of students were very satisfied, and 90.02% of students understood non-rice and wheat carbohydrate-producing plants and their processing. Students' understanding of the nutrition of non-rice and wheat commodities and the use of safe chemicals increased to 74.85% of the total number of students. Furthermore, guidance is needed so students can promote their culinary products and understand the flow of obtaining SPP-IRT.

Abstract

Gadingkulon Village, Dau District, Malang Regency, is one of the villages producing cow's milk, which is quite productive. To increase the economic value of cow's milk, one way of processing it is to make it into kefir. Kefir is a fermented drink made from cow's milk using kefir seeds, which has the benefit of being a probiotic that is needed to maintain body immunity, especially during a pandemic. Training on making cow's milk kefir for a group of cow's milk farmers in Gadingkulon village can provide another alternative for processing cow's milk to produce a halal probiotic product to increase people's immunity during a pandemic while at the same time increasing the selling value of cow's milk which has the potential to increase the income of cow's milk farmers. This empowerment activity was carried out using the observation and training method with the target of PKK women in Gadingkulon Village. The information results stated that the activity participants needed to become more familiar with the terms and benefits of kefir as a probiotic drink, which helps increase body immunity. The results of the community empowerment showed that the participants could understand and practice how to make cow's milk kefir, pack it aseptically, and form a kefir community in the Gadingkulon village.

Abstract

Partners in this service are MSME Duck Livestock, located in Junrejo, Batu. This partner currently uses conventional methods in carrying out the process of mixing animal feed. Therefore, the purpose of this service is to introduce and implement mechanization in the animal feed mixing process through the use of animal feed mixing machines. The animal feed mixer machine used has a capacity of 10 kg. The motor power used is 0.25 Horsepower (HP). The dimensions of this machine reach 740mm x 310mm x 550mm. This machine is equipped with four straight mixers used in mixing animal feed. Through the evaluation that has been carried out, the use of this animal feed mixing machine is proven to provide significant benefits. Mixing animal feed ingredients, which previously required quite a long time, has been shortened to only 3 minutes for every 10 kg of feed ingredients. This increase in efficiency is significant for MSME Duck Animal Feed. With the animal feed mixing machine, our partners can increase productivity and efficiency in their business. In addition, this machine also helps improve the consistency and quality of mixing feed, thereby positively impacting the growth and health of the ducks they care for. Overall, using animal feed mixing machines in this service has a significant positive impact on MSMEs of Duck Animal Feed. By increasing the productivity, efficiency, and quality of mixing animal feed, it is hoped that our partners can sustainably develop their businesses and increase their income.

Abstract

Stigma in PLHIV is often shown by social rejection, lack of recognition, and discrimination that will cause shame and fear for PLHIV to interact with others. HIV-positive status can lead to a lack of social support, lead to depression, loss of opportunities to work and earn income, and decreased courage to seek medical services. Residents Concerned about AIDS (WPA) of Genuksari Village are one of the PLHIV support groups that have the potential to reduce community stigma. One of the efforts to increase the ability of WPA Genuksari members is to assist. In this assistance, efforts will be made to screen HIV risk in healthy communities, screen stigma in the community, and increase the ability to overcome community stigma through brief psychoeducation.
