Abstract

Reading is not just as a simply reading but it requires a good understanding to get the meaning of the written text. Some students yet face difficulty in receiving the meaning of the text. So, the aim of this study is to analyze the difficulties faced by the English Department students in mastering reading text, especially about finding and understanding the main idea. It also studies how the students deal with their difficulties in Intensive Reading Comprehension class. To reach the goal, 10 students were taken randomly as the participants. Question sheets were distributed to the participants and also supported with interview. They helped the writer in collecting the data about the students difficulties.  From the gaining data, it is found that most students had problem in mastering reading text especially in understanding main idea that caused by lacking of vocabulary mastery. To deal with this problem, the students tried some ways by practicing reading aloud, having group learning, and asking the lecturer to use the appropriate technique in teaching learning reading comprehension.

Abstract

Information literacy has became a central issue of modern society. The rapid growth of information technology (IL) and the emergence of new digital devices not only require changes in the concept of IL itself, but also in practice. This paper discusses findings of study of design and development research with the goal of study was to develop the development of blended model of information literacy instruction (ILI) for higher education library instruction. Data were collected through a checklist, pretest, posttest, and attitude questionnaire throughout a series of formative evaluation stages. The data obtained were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result showed that the A6S (analyze, select, search, sort, synthesize, share, and self-evaluation) information model effective to enhance students IL. offered recommendation regarding implementation in library instructions

Abstract

The initial study has found several fundamental problems related to the professionalism of vocational teachers. These problems are in the form of 1) unequal teachers in getting the opportunity to participate in competency improvement programs; 2) lack of awareness in conducting research; 2) lack of desire to write articles and teaching materials, and 3) low level of desire to design instructional media in the field of mechanical engineering expertise. The objectives of this study were to 1) test the efficiency and effectiveness of the capacity building model; 2) find the determinants of success in professional development, and 3) produce a model for professional development of vocational teachers in the field of mechanical engineering expertise through effective and efficient capacity building. This study uses the Research and Development method. The subjects in this study were teachers in the field of mechanical engineering expertise in Bireuen Regency, the principal, two education management experts, and two mechanical engineering vocational education experts. Data collection techniques used in this research are through observation, interviews, FGD, documentation and questionnaires. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the teacher capacity building model can improve teacher professionalism. These activities are carried out through the formation of learning communities, virtual self-education, writing, critical development groups, peer assistance, teacher exchanges, further studies, congregational action research, conferences and seminars, and ongoing training.

Abstract

Problems involving mathematical models appear in many scientific disciplines. Complex mathematical models sometimes cannot be solved by analytic methods using standard algebraic formulas. Computers play a major role in the development of the field of numerical methods because the calculation uses numerical methods in the form of arithmetic operations, the number of arithmetic operations is very large and repetitive, so manual calculations are often tedious and errors occur. This study aims to develop software solutions for linear equations by implementing the Gauss-Jordan elimination(GJ-elimination) method, building software for linear equations carried out through five stages, namely: (1) System Modeling (2) Simplification of Models, (3) Numerical Methods and algorithms, (4) programming languages using The Android Studio and (5) Simulation programs. Overall regarding content, proper software that can be used by students and lecturers in implementing numerical methods because there are ways to use the application and steps to solve linear equation problems using the GJ-elimination method.

Abstract

Method is a comprehensive plan to provide language learning materials on a regular basis, with no contradictory part, and all are based on a particular approach. The purpose of this study is to improve the Aeronautical Knowledge of Vocational Education Cadets in the Official Aviation School. The object chosen in this study is the Vocational Education Cadets of Official Aviation School. Based on the results of this study, it is proven that the direct learning model is able to increase Aeronautical Knowledge, which is indicated by the improvement of cadets achievement.

Abstract

The process of developing, becoming self-reliant, self-supporting, and increasing the bargaining position of lower-class groups so that they can become a pressing force in society is known as community empowerment. If community empowerment program participants understand and can perform everything that has been presented in the empowerment program, the empowerment program can run effectively and efficiently. The empowerment program must be evaluated for the program's aims and objectives to be further developed, continued, or even discontinued. This research used the CIPP evaluation model developed by Huberman. The results found that the empowerment program provided many benefits for migrants workers from preventing them back to work as migrant workers abroad but it was also found that some of them go back to work as migrant workers as the business built as a result of the empowerment program did not run as expected.

Abstract

Musrenbangdes consist of formation activities, methods, programs and social movements with the aim of accommodating and identifying problems and needs that exist in each hamlet, Musrenbangdes conducted to filter aspirations and formulate policy directions. So there is a contribution to the role of village deliberation decision making that can increase community participation in rural infrastructure development. However, good planning is not optimal because it can be seen from the weakness of the ability of government officials, the community in implementing Musrenbangdes still has shortcomings, both seen technically and its performance is also not optimal, does not follow the procedures set by the Musrenbangdes stages so that the results obtained are not effective, efficient , not optimal and not in accordance with community needs. Factors hampering the Musrenbangdes, namely: weak capacity of village government in making development planning, cronyism of government and capacity building are weak and institutions that handle Musrenbangdes, weaknesses in identifying problems, and weak government data and information support. Influential actors in the process of preparing village development plans, among others, lack of planning workforce resources, limited time, development planning that is not integrated and the allocation of projects is ineffective and not based on priority scale.

Abstract

Management plays an important role in building the quality of an institution. especially schools, consequently, quality management is needed to achieve these goals. The reality in the field shows that management is a discourse that has not yet received serious attention. Therefore, this study aims to gain a deep perception of the Management of Schools in Islamic Vocational High Schools. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. The results of this study are classified into several steps. First, planning, Second, organizing, Third, mobilizing, Fourth, supervision. The results of the study indicate that in common the management of schools in Panglima Besar (PB)  Soedirman Islamic Vocational School Jakarta takes place following the management functions applied in schools, this can be observed from the curriculum planning process carried out comprehensively and based on Islamic principles. Organizing activities in student affairs by linking all study programs and cross committees, the good student progress, and comprehensive supervision covering all supporting elements as well as supervision involving various stakeholders using the religious-based management approach. The harmonious coordination of the scholarly community-based academic scheme in the four fields of expertise makes Panglima Besar Soedirman Islamic Vocational School Jakarta one of the references to a superior Islamic-based vocational school in the Jakarta community.

Abstract

In teaching and learning process, teacher may use certain learning strategies or methods. Virtual discussion, for instance, it can be done to encourage students cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. This activity provides an opportunity for students to sit and listen as they speak and think critically, logically, and rationally. Moreover, students get better results when they work together than those who study individually. This survey research conducted to find out the correlation among virtual discussion with cognitive, affective, and psychomotor of 110 students in IKIP Budi Utomo Malang. The result shows that the virtual discussion has strong correlation not only in cognitive domain, but also it has strong correlation with affective and psychomotor domain. Almost all significant values are positive. There is only one negative significant value between cognitive and affective. Thus, it illustrates that the increasing of cognitive domain by applying virtual discussion is not always followed by the increasing of affective domain.
