Abstract

Background: Dictyosphaeria versluysii is a type of green algae that can be consumed. This alga is abundant in the coastal waters of Maluku Province. However, this alga has not been widely explored scientifically. Generally, people who live on the coast of Ambon Island and its surroundings do not know about the potential of Dictyospaheria versluysiii algae. This study aims to determine the chlorophyll content of green algae Dictyospaheria versluysiii and the level of public preference for processed products. Methods: Samples of green algae Dictyospaheria versluysii were taken by purposive sampling. Analysis of chlorophyll content using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry method at wavelengths of 645 nm and 663 nm. Sensory test using questionnaire with Likert scale on 35 panelists in Tulehu District, Central Maluku Regency. Results: Chlorophyll levels in three different samples, namely the untreated wet sample (Dv.2), the untreated dry sample (Dv.1), and the treated wet sample (Dv.3), have different results. The total chlorophyll levels for the three samples were 35.1 mg/L, 59.7 mg/L, and 18.6 mg/L, respectively. Sample Dv.1 had higher chlorophyll levels compared to the other two samples. The results of the sensory test showed that the parameters of color, taste, aroma, and level of liking were in the “Very Like” criteria and texture was in the “Like” criteria. Conclusion: The chlorophyll content of Dictyospaheria versluysiii algae decreased after processing. However, processed Dictyosphaeria versluysii algae products can be accepted by the people of Negeri Tulehu. This algae can be developed into useful alternative and innovative food.

Abstract

Background : Youtefa Bay, located in Jayapura City, Papua, is renowned for its natural beauty and is a conservation area with a mangrove forest ecosystem. The mangroves in Youtefa Bay, such as Rhizophora sp., play a crucial role in maintaining environmental balance and supporting the livelihoods of the surrounding communities. However, the biochemical complexity of these mangrove extracts poses a unique challenge in understanding their health effects. The objective of this research is to explore and elucidate the bioactive complexity of mangrove extracts, particularly Rhizophora sp. Methods: . The analytical method employed in this study is High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The results of this research show that Rhizophora sp. Results: Mangroves in Youtefa Bay, Jayapura City, contain various bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, saponins, and tannins, which are beneficial to health. Alkaloids aid in stimulating the nervous system, regulating blood pressure, and combating microbial infections. Flavonoids function as antibacterial and antioxidant agents, while terpenoids possess anti-inflammatory properties. Saponins are effective for the treatment of leukemia, asthma, rheumatism, and also exhibit anti-inflammatory effects. Tannins serve as anti-diarrheal, antioxidant, antibacterial, and astringent agents. Conclusion: Mangrove Rhizophora sp. has various active compounds which are very beneficial for health, so it is necessary to preserve the mangrove ecosystem in Youtefa Bay, Jayapura City.

Abstract

Background: Genetic variation can share data on genetic diversity in fish populations. mtDNA is used to determine the kinship between grouper fish originating from TPI Gabion Medan Belawan. This study aims to obtain the latest genetic variations found in grouper populations (Epinephelus sp.), analyze for the kinship relationship between grouper populations (Epinephelus sp.), determine for the kinship relationship between grouper fish from TPI Gabion Medan Belawan and grouper fish that already exist in NCBI.Methods: This study used experimental methods. Results: The results of research on species of the genus Epinephelus namely Epinephelus fuscoguttatus, Epinephelus sexfasticus, and Epinephelus areolatus obtained by processing the sequencing data by analyzing nucleotide characters using the Mega 11 application. All three samples have low GC Content, it is said that all three samples have primitive properties. All three samples have the same genetic distance because they have a genetic distance value (Pairwise distance) below 3%.Conclusion: Reconstruction of phylogenetic trees shows that grouper kinship (phylogenetics) originating from TPI Gabion Medan Belawan with grouper fish that already exist in NCBI have close kinship and common ancestor

Abstract

Background: DNA Barcode is a molecular technique using short sequences of nucleotide bases that aims to identify and classify living things. This study aims to obtain nucleotide characters from DNA barcode results from kepah clams using CO1 genes in Sumatran waters, to determine the results of molecular identification of species of kepah clams (Polymesoda sp.) found in North Sumatra waters, and to determine the kinship relationships of kepah clam species (Polymesoda sp.) in North Sumatra waters. Samples were obtained in Bagan Percut and Lake Siombak, carried out from July to August 2023 at the Biomolecular Laboratory, Medan State University. Methods: The method used is to use DNA barcodes with CO1 genes. Results: The results of research of species of the genus Polymesoda sp. namely Polymesoda erosa and Polymesoda expansa obtained from processing sequencing data by analyzing nucleotide characters using the Mega 11 application, namely variations in the percentage of AT content (62.69%), GC content (37.56%) for Polymesoda erosa species and AT content (62.42%), GC content (38.64%) for Polymesoda expansa species, which means both species have primitive properties. Molecular identification of the genus Polymesoda sp. obtained from the results of DNA sequence samples along 369 bp so that it is suitable to be used as DNA barcodes. The genetic distance between the species studied is Polymesoda erosa (0.000) and Polymesoda expansa (0.920) which means they have a close genetic distance. Conclusion: Phylogenetic tree reconstruction carried out using the Neighbour Joining method shows that between the two species Polymesoda erosa (Bagan Percut) and Polymesoda expansa (Lake Siombak) have a close kinship and come from a common ancestor.

Results: The cognitive learning outcomes in the pre-cycle showed an average score of 62.26, with 29% of students meeting the minimum mastery criteria (KKM), while 71% did not. The affective learning outcomes had an average score of 60.93, with 32% mastering the material and 68% not mastering it. In Cycle I, the cognitive average increased to 70.65, with 68% of students meeting the KKM and 32% not. The affective learning average rose to 68.10, with 65% mastering the material and 35% not, though the improvement was not yet optimal. In Cycle II, the cognitive average reached 80.32, with 84% meeting the KKM and 16% not. The affective learning average was 77.42, with 84% mastering the material and 16% not, showing significant improvement in both aspects. Conclusion: The application of the Mind Mapping method supported by Flashcard media and supplemented with LKPD Word Square can improve the learning outcomes of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri Satap Walatungga.

Abstract

Background: The coastline of Negeri Hatu in Central Maluku Regency harbors a diverse tree vegetation ecosystem that plays a critical role in maintaining environmental stability and mitigating coastal erosion. This study aims to analyze the structure and composition of tree vegetation in the Negeri Hatu beach area. Methods: The research employed the quadrat transect method with purposive sampling to observe diversity, density, dominance, and evenness of vegetation. Results: The results showed the presence of 7 tree species from 7 different families, with a Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') value of 3.071, indicating moderate species diversity. Coconut trees (Cocos nucifera) had the highest Importance Value Index (IVI) at 36.39%, signifying their significant ecological role in maintaining the stability of the coastal ecosystem. Species distribution was relatively even, with low dominance levels. Conclusion: The study concludes that conserving coastal vegetation is crucial for maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems and mitigating environmental impacts.
