Abstract

Excessive exposure to sunlight can adversely affect the skin and cause various kinds of skin problems. Agarwood leaf extract (Aquilaria malaccensis Lam) contains flavonoid compounds that can protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays. This study aims to formulate a cream from the ethanol extract of agarwood leaves (Aquilaria malaccensis Lam) which can be used as a sunscreen cream. In this study, a cream formula was prepared from ethanol extract of agarwood leaves with 3 variations of different concentrations of the extract, namely F1 2% extract of agarwood leaves, F2 4% extract of agarwood leaves and F3 8% extract of agarwood leaves. Homogeneity tests, pH tests, spreadability tests, adhesion tests, and SPF tests. The results showed that F2 with an extract concentration of 4% was the best formula with a pH of 7.11; spreadability of 6.0 cm; adhesive power of 4.9 seconds and SPF value of 39.22 which is the maximum category as a sunscreen.

Abstract

Dengue fever presents a critical health challenge in Semarang City, marked by a notable increase in cases and fatalities in recent years. Bandarharjo Subdistrict, located along the coast, is particularly vulnerable due to its susceptibility to high tides, which create stagnant water breeding grounds for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, primary vectors of dengue. This study aimed to enhance dengue prevention knowledge among PKK women through Wolbachia-based strategies and ovitrap-making practice. This research was conducted in May 2024 and used a quasi-experimental design with 37 married women participating in pretest-posttest assessments. Results indicated a significant improvement in knowledge scores post-intervention (p-value < 0.001) among PKK women. The study highlights the urgent need for targeted community health interventions amidst rising dengue cases, underscoring the role of education and practical training in mitigating disease transmission. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies to assess the sustainability and broader public health impacts of Wolbachia-based interventions in endemic regions.

Abstract

Chemotherapy is the main therapy in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia and can change the body's hematological parameters during therapy. Haematological side effects that commonly occur after chemotherapy include anemia and neutropenia. The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors for anemia and neutropenia in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia after chemotherapy. This research is retrospective analytic with cross sectional data collection methods. The type of data used is secondary data from medical records of patients diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0. The research results obtained from this study were that there was a significant relationship between chemotherapy regimen and the incidence of anemia in acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients (p=0.001), and a significant relationship was found between age and chemotherapy regimen and the incidence of neutropenia in acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients (p= 0.005 and p=0.011). The conclusion obtained is that risk factors for chemotherapy regimens have a significant relationship between the incidence of anemia. In addition, the risk factors of age and chemotherapy regimen have a significant relationship between the incidence of neutropenia. Risk factors aged 12-25 years have the opportunity to increase the risk of neutropenia by 0.231 times greater than risk factors for chemotherapy regimens.

Abstract

Free radicals are molecules that are inconsistent and reactive because they have a portion of the electron that does not have a mate. Free radicals in the body that exceed their capacity will result in oxidative stress. Oxidative Stress can induce damage to various instruments in cells, such as carbohydrates, proteins, DNA, and fat. If oxidational stress is not handled properly, then it will cause degenerative disease. Free radicals can be overcome with antioxidant compounds. Dayak onions (Eleutherine americana (L.) Merr) are suspected to contain flavonoids and phenolic substances that can be antioxidants. The study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolites, total phenolic levels, as well as the flavonoids of the water extract and the ethanol extract of Dayak onions (Eleutherine americana (L.) Merr) obtained from Tenggarong Seberang (L3), East Kalimantan. The method used to determine total phenolic levels using the Folin-Ciocalteu method, the determination of total flavonoid levels using the colorimetric method, as well as phytochemical screening tests using the tube method. Results obtained at the total phenolic content of dayak onions water extract 0.45±0.07 mg GAE/g and dayak onions ethanol extract 1.21±02.02 mg GAE/g, as well as the total level of flavonoids in dayak onions aquatic extracts 1.17±0.66 mg QE/g and dayak onions etanol extraction 1.33±0.41 mg QE/g, from such results indicate higher total levels of phenolics and flavanoids found in dayak onions ethanol extracted.

Abstract

Indonesia has implemented a decentralization policy since the end of the Soeharto era. Decentralization gives central government tasks to local governments. Local governments are obliged to manage, develop regions, and improve the welfare of their people. Each region has its own policies in improving the health of its people. To monitor the achievement of the success of the health system in each region, a clear and broad picture is needed. One of them is the index. East Java is one of the provinces with the highest population in Indonesia. This study aims to see whether the indicators of Public Health Development in East Java have an influence on life expectancy. The results of the study showed that complete immunization and the proportion of doctors to residents in 1 sub-district have an influence on life expectancy. To improve immunization achievement, the government has launched various programs. The government is also carrying out equal placement of doctors through various health programs. The indicators measured are used as monitoring and evaluation materials for programs that have been carried out. Further research is needed regarding the relationship between regions and life expectancy.

Abstract

Stigma and discrimination (S&D) towards people living with HIV (PLHIV) among healthcare workers (HCWs) in primary care are evidenced by discriminatory attitudes and perceived discrimination by PLHIV. Addressing this issue is crucial for improving patient adherence to treatment plans and achieving the goal of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. This project aims to determine the factors contributing to S&D towards PLHIV among HCWs in primary health care. The study consists of five phases, including four quantitative and one qualitative observation, conducted from September to December 2020. Two phases focused on staff training to measure knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP), concluding with an in-depth interview. An audit of laboratory forms assessed labeling practices, and the ‘My Journey Survey’ identified areas associated with discrimination. Results showed that HCWs without training demonstrated more S&D. Paramedics and pharmacists had moderate to high knowledge scores, but their attitudes and practices were average. The bleeding room and pharmacy were identified as areas with acts of discrimination. Several interventions were implemented to improve HCW knowledge and practices, eliminate labeling practices, and enhance patient education and treatment literacy. Post-intervention surveys revealed significant improvements in most S&D domains among HCWs, with the achievable benefit not achieved (ABNA) gap closed from 19% to 0%. In conclusion, multi-pronged and consistent interventions are necessary to eliminate discrimination among HCWs towards PLHIV, focusing on increasing knowledge, changing work processes, and continuous promotion of awareness.
