Abstract

Mangrove forests serve as a natural barrier against storm surges, tsunamis and coastal erosion. Their complex root systems dissipate wave energy, protecting coastal areas from the effects of severe weather. This article serves to evaluate the tourism potential of the Lubuk Kertang mangrove area, highlight its ecological and community significance, identify challenges, and propose sustainable management strategies to enhance ecotourism opportunities. Mangrove observation using the transectional square methodology was used to assess mangrove density. It involves establishing transect squares consisting of 20 units, each measuring 10 x 10 meters, starting from the coastal area and extending inland. The study found that the mangrove area consisted mainly of Avicennia marina species, with a density of 1860 individuals per hectare (18.6 individuals per 100 m²). The tourism suitability index results for the Lubuk Kertang mangrove forest area were very high at 87.5%, categorizing it as “very suitable” for ecotourism development. This indicates a strong potential to attract tourists and promote sustainable tourism practices in the region

Abstract

In the learning process, properly empowering students' environmental care character is a crucial endeavor. This study was conducted to analyze the effectiveness of empowering students' environmental care character, as measured by the environmental care character profile. This quantitative descriptive study used a student environmental care character questionnaire instrument. The results showed that the average value of students' environmental care character was 64.34, which was in the sufficient category. Out of the 52 participants in this study, only 14.29 demonstrated an average level of environmental care character in the good category. Other respondents, specifically 77.55 % and 8.16 %, had average values in the sufficient and less categories. This shows that the conventional approach has not been effective in empowering students' environmental care character. Other efforts are needed, namely 1) school commitment to integrate character values into the school's vision and mission including the implementation of various school activities, 2) teacher commitment to select, develop and implement learning models that provide opportunities for students to be actively involved in learning, for example problem-based learning models, project-based learning models, contextual learning models and outdoor learning, 3) Development and use of ICT-based media and learning resources that are integrated with environmental literacy and 4) increasing the involvement of relevant stakeholders such as parents, government and the community in efforts to empower students' environmentally conscious character

Abstract

Shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) is one of the important commodities in Indonesia. The main obstacle that is often faced is moler disease caused by Fusarium sp. Bacillus sp. bacteria have the potential to control Fusarium sp. The purpose of study was to determine the ability of Bacillus sp. in controlling moler disease and its effect on the growth and production of onion plants. The study used a factorial completely randomized design with three replications and nine treatments, so there were 27 experimental units. The observation variables included incubation period, disease intensity, plant height, number of leaves, and tuber wet weight. The research data were analyzed using the ANOVA analysis of variance procedure to determine whether there was an effect of each treatment. If it is known that there is a significantly different effect from the treatment, it will be continued with the DMRT test at the 5 % level. The results showed that the combination of Bacillus sp. isolate bcz 16 and dosage 35 ml/polybag was the longest delaying the incubation period of 15 day and could suppress moler disease by 50 %. The treatment of Bacillus sp. isolate bcz 16 and dosage 35 ml also gave the highest results in plant length, number of leaves, and wet weight of shallot bulbs

Abstract

Low rice productivity due to the use of low-grade seeds. The quality of the seeds can suffer a decrease caused by the attack of pathogenic fungi carried by the seeds both at the time of planting and storage, which will have an impact on the disruption of plant growth. Biopriming using Trichoderma sp. be an effort to control because it is antagonistic to pathogens. The success of biopriming is also influenced by the duration of seed priming. This study aims to examine the duration of soaking rice seeds with Trichoderma sp. the most effective for lowering seed-borne pathogenic infections. The study was conducted by providing seed soaking treatment using Trichoderma sp. suspension for 6 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours with PDA medium incubation test method and Growing on Test. The parameters tested are the percentage of infection rate and the percentage of germination. Identification results showed that pathogenic fungi carried by seeds included Rhizopus sp., Fusarium sp., Aspergillus sp., and Mucor sp. The results showed the duration of soaking rice seeds with Trichoderma sp. more effective in decreasing the infection rate is at a 24-hour duration. However, the duration of soaking rice seeds with Trichoderma sp. there was no noticeable difference for the percentage parameter of seed germination.

Abstract

Water quality analysis plays an important role in understanding the environmental factors that affect aquatic life, especially during critical periods such as fish spawning. The purpose of this study was to investigate several aspects related to water quality and its impact on hilsa fish species during their life cycle period. The study was conducted in Sungai Bilah over a four-month period in 2023, focusing on three specialized stations to assess water quality during the peak season of hilsa fish spawning. This study uses the descriptive method, with strategic sampling locations determined through interviews with fishermen. This method is crucial for understanding the impact of water quality on fish spawning activities. The results of the water quality analysis showed that each station had an average value of Temperature 26.625 °C, Turbidity 86.033, Total Suspended Solid (TSS) 88.75, Dissolved Oxygen (DO) 6.75, Nitrate 2.50, and Phosphate 0.002. Overall, these results indicate that the water quality in the observation area is in a condition that supports the successful spawning of hilsa fish, with stable temperature and adequate dissolved oxygen levels, while other parameters such as turbidity and TSS remain within acceptable limits
