Abstract

This study explores the design elements and crafting techniques of Potimarende Sipaholon guitars. Originating from the rich cultural heritage of Sipoholon village, these guitars bear unique characteristics in both design and sound, attracting attention from local and international music enthusiasts. Through qualitative research methods, including interviews and observations, insights into the intricate processes of guitar crafting were obtained. The study delves into the detailed stages of guitar production, from the selection and preparation of raw materials to the finishing touches. Techniques such as wood processing, body construction, and finishing are meticulously executed to ensure the quality and aesthetic appeal of the final product. By understanding and documenting these practices, the research aims to contribute to the preservation of local craftsmanship while inspiring the development of high-quality, culturally relevant guitar products. This endeavor not only strengthens cultural heritage but also stimulates economic growth in the local community.

Abstract

This study is a systematic literature review utilizing sources from Scopus, DOAJ, and Google Scholar, focusing on publications from 2013 to 2023. The findings assert the significant and relevant role of cultural arts in preserving local identities in the modern era. Cultural arts serve as social cohesion agents, safeguarding local traditions and values amidst the changes and influences of globalization and modernization. Various forms of artistic expression such as painting, music, dance, and literature play a crucial role in strengthening and preserving local identities, fostering awareness of cultural diversity within the dynamics of the modern world. Cultural arts also facilitate dialogue between local traditions and modern innovations, enabling productive interaction between existing and emerging elements, and stimulating critical reflection on the interpretation of traditional values in the evolving context of time. However, there are gaps in this research highlighting the lack of in-depth studies on the impact of modern technology on cultural artistic expression and local identity, which require further attention in the future.

Abstract

Dementia is a symptom of intellectual function decline characterized by impairment in at least four functions: language, memory, visuospatial abilities (such as measuring distance, distinguishing colors and people), and emotional control. One of the symptoms of dementia is forgetfulness, and most people are still unfamiliar with the term dementia. This lack of awareness is due to insufficient education about dementia. This design project is crucial because it can increase literacy about dementia, enabling preventive measures from a young age by training cognitive skills in adolescents so that their cognitive abilities remain intact into adulthood. The design method used is the Design Thinking method, which consists of five stages: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. The main media used is a board game which can train players' memory, focus and concentration. Through this design, it is hoped that it will be able to overcome the symptoms of dementia from the teenage years.

Abstract

Rattan is one of the main materials in simple crafts and a material for interior furniture items. In Indonesia, rattan is very abundant and is one of the largest rattan producing countries in the world. On the other hand, this rattan material is very popular with furniture entrepreneurs because rattan can be made into creative products that have features both in terms of function and aesthetics.. Furniture produced includes chairs, tables, and decorative products. The application of rattan in making table lamps is found on the hood which uses rattan material with a four-axis rattan weaving technique. This technique Arrange the woven material in 4 different directions and will produce a woven pattern with more holes with hexagonal and octagonal pattern shapes. On the lamp body is made of wood glued to the sides of the wood. So the process of making this table lamp is through material observation and experimentation. The purpose of this design is to increase consumer attractiveness to interior needs. The application of rattan material in the design of table lamps produces products that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also pay attention to aspects of sustainability and functionality needs.

Abstract

Nongsa Beach in Batam is an increasingly popular tourist destination, facing challenges in providing an effective signage and wayfinding system. The lack of a clear information system often causes confusion among visitors, especially for first-time visitors. This research aims to design signage and wayfinding systems that not only improve readability and understanding of information, but also enrich the visitor experience by creating a more organized and accessible environment. This study uses the environmental graphic design (EGD) method which is limited to predesign and design. Data collection was taken from observation, interviews and literature studies and analyzed. The results of the data analysis were used to design Signage and Wayfinding at Nongsa Beach, Batam.

Abstract

Art education faces various paradigms and challenges in the modern era, where the integration of moral values, technological development, and multiculturalism is increasingly important. This study aims to examine the challenges and opportunities in integrating moral values, technology, and multiculturalism into art education. This research uses Creswell's naturalistic qualitative method. The results of this study include: First, moral values encompassing ethics, morality, and character are outlined as fundamental foundations in shaping students' personalities. Second, rapid technological development provides both opportunities and challenges in adapting innovative and interactive art learning methods. Third, multiculturalism and cultural diversity are important elements in enriching artistic perspectives and promoting inclusivity. Through this approach, it is hoped that art education can produce creative, critical, and character-driven individuals who are ready to face the ever-changing global dynamics.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology (ICT) has brought significant changes in various aspects of life, including in the world of education. Telkom 1 Medan Vocational School, as one of the leading vocational schools in the city of Medan, needs to formulate appropriate promotional strategies to attract the interest of prospective students in the digital era. This research aims to identify appropriate social media content visualizations to attract prospective students at Telkom 1 Medan Vocational School, especially in the city of Medan. This research uses qualitative research methods with a descriptive approach. Data was collected through observation of Telkom Medan Vocational School's social media, in-depth interviews with prospective students, visual analysis of social media content at other vocational schools, and focus group discussions with social media and education experts. The data analysis techniques used are content analysis and thematic analysis. The research results show that the right visualization of social media content to attract prospective Telkom Medan Vocational School students in the city of Medan must have several characteristics, namely Informative, Interesting, Interactive, Relevant and Building a positive image. Visualization of social media content made capable effective promotional strategy to attract prospective students at SMK Telkom 1 Medan in the digital era.

Abstract

A film poster is the identity of a film which functions as a promotional medium for the film. Promotion of the film Miracle in Cell No.7 by Hanung Bramantyo uses internet marketing techniques, by uploading film posters to social media. This research aims to analyze the various meanings of the signs implied in the film poster Miracle in Cell No.7. This research is qualitative research, the data analysis method consists of four stages of design review, namely, work description, formal analysis, interpretation, and evaluation. The work description describes all the elements contained in the film poster Miracle in Cell No.7. Formal analysis is technically discussing how basic elements such as illustrations, colors, and typography are arranged to form a single unit in an order or layout. Interpretation is interpreting the meaning of signs based on Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic theory which includes icons, indices, and symbols. Evaluation is outlining the conclusions of all the stages that have been passed. The research results found that various signs were in harmony with each other so that they supported the message conveyed in the film poster. It was concluded that the visualization of the main illustrations, supporting visuals, colors, and typography displayed on the visual poster for the film Miracle in Cell No.7 gives an implied picture of a father's love for his daughter, until one day they had to separate because justice was not on his side

Abstract

The redesign of the ‘Hadimu Home Bakery’ logo aims to strengthen the visual identity of one of the cake businesses in Bandung City and raise the brand’s image among the public. ‘Hadimu Home Bakery’ is a business that sells various kinds of cakes in the city of Bandung. ‘Hadimu Home Bakery’ was founded by Hadi Mukhayyar in 2016 by selling various types of cakes such as donuts, bread, pudding and other cakes. ‘Hadimu Home Bakery’ has a visual identity that is not yet represented so that it can affect the brand identity of the business. Therefore, a redesain of the logo for ‘Hadimu Home Bakery’ was carried out. The design method used is Design Thinking which consists of five non-linear stages, namely Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. The data analysis method uses SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats). The main media is a logo with Graphic Standard Manual (GSM), while the supporting media are neon boxes, shop window stickers, packaging, aprons an banners. The final design results are then tested on the client, designer, and target audience based on aspects of color, font readability, and layout arrangement. The overall design of the logo is used to communicate a message which is expected to necome the positioning of the ‘Hadi Home Bakery’ brand.

Abstract

The lion dance is a form of ethnic Chinese culture with a beautiful variety of motion and visual ornaments.  The purpose of this research is to serve as a reminder of cultural preservation and inheritance. The primary reflection resources paired with Feldman's art criticism method include a historical overview, performance dynamics, ritual/celebration procedures, and cultural heritage. This study also provides a glimpse into and description of ethnic Chinese's effort to express cultural arts following a time of prejudice. The dissection is carried out utilising descriptive qualitative methodologies, with data collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Triangulation of sources with ethnomusicologists validates the data analysed using an inter-academic model. Cultural reflection produced by Barongsai arts for ethnic Chinese includes reminders and awareness of evaluative materials related to the struggle for discrimination in the historical context, entertainment and sports functions in the context of performance dynamics, meanings and symbols of happy and sad expressions in the context of ritual / celebration processes, and sorting out incoming outside cultures for the younger generation in the context of cultura. It is critical and beneficial that the findings of this study serve as a vehicle and platform for future attempts to maintain and enhance the Barongsai art form. In addition, there needs to be support between elements of the ethnic Chinese community and the government so that the art of Barongsai can be preserved and developed in the future.
