Abstract

Online media play a significant role in shaping public understanding through the framing of issues and public figures. This study addresses the limited attention to how media framing constructs legitimacy and public image in Indonesian digital journalism by analyzing the coverage of Kompas.com on Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa using Robert N. Entman’s framing model. The research employs a qualitative approach with framing analysis of ten news articles published in October 2025. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed based on four elements: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgments, and treatment recommendations. The findings indicate that Kompas.com constructs Purbaya’s image dynamically through patterns of legitimacy, criticism, conflict neutralization, and positioning as a problem-solving actor. He is portrayed as a professional and rational figure, while also receiving critical framing related to authority and communication style. The framing tends to maintain balance by providing space for clarification and multiple perspectives. These results demonstrate that media framing functions not only as a mechanism of selection and emphasis but also as a process of negotiating public legitimacy in digital journalism. The study contributes to the development of Entman’s framing model by highlighting its contextual application in Indonesian online media.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Instagram as a digital promotional medium in increasing the interest and number of new student applicants at Vocational High School Tritech Informatika, Medan. The study addresses the growing competition among secondary education institutions and investigates how social media–based educational promotion influences school visibility and enrollment decisions. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observations of Instagram promotional content, in-depth interviews with key informants—including the school principal, public relations staff, educators, parents of graduating students, and surrounding community members—and documentation of digital promotional materials and student admission records. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns in promotional strategies and their perceived impacts. The findings indicate that Instagram-based promotion plays a significant role in enhancing public awareness of the school, strengthening its institutional image, and stimulating prospective students’ interest through visually engaging, informative, and consistently managed content. This study contributes to the literature on educational communication by demonstrating the effectiveness of digital school marketing strategies in student recruitment and offers practical insights for vocational schools seeking to optimize social media platforms for sustainable enrollment growth.

Abstract

Rapid urban transformation has increased the need for non-formal Islamic educational institutions that strengthen both religious values and social cohesion. This study examines the history and development of the Darusshofa Majelis Taklim in Medan, the implementation of its da'wah activities, and its significance as a religious institution amid modernization. Employing a qualitative descriptive-analytical design, the research applies a historical approach to reconstruct the institution's development through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, with data analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The novelty of this study lies in integrating historical reconstruction with an analysis of the institutional development and socio-religious contribution of the Darusshofa Majelis Taklim within an urban context. The findings show that the institution originated from a local da'wah initiative pioneered by KH. Mufty Ahmad Nasichin, who successfully integrated Islamic teachings with community realities. Its activities promote spiritual education, strengthen social solidarity, and reinforce religious identity. Despite challenges arising from social change, urban lifestyles, and limited youth participation, the Darusshofa Majelis Taklim has remained a sustainable model of community-based da'wah and non-formal Islamic education in Medan.

Abstract

This study examines how Mount Kemukus is represented in TikTok content produced by content creators and explores how audiences interpret these representations. The study addresses the persistent tension between cultural-religious narratives and the negative stereotypes that continue to shape the site's public image. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach grounded in Stuart Hall’s theory of representation, data were collected through observations of TikTok content, documentation, interviews with content creators and audiences, and analyses of user comments. The findings reveal three dominant representations of Mount Kemukus: a site of religious, cultural, and historical tourism; a family tourism destination; and a location associated with pesugihan rituals. These representations are constructed through visual imagery, captions, narration, music, and symbolic elements embedded in creators’ encoding practices. Audience interpretations vary across dominant-hegemonic, negotiated, and oppositional readings. While some audiences reproduce the site's negative stigma, others reinterpret it based on personal experience, and local communities largely reject the stigmatizing narratives by emphasizing Mount Kemukus as a religious, cultural, and historical heritage destination. The study argues that social media functions not merely as a platform for information dissemination but also as a dynamic arena for constructing, contesting, and reproducing cultural meanings, stereotypes, and collective identities.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of learning motivation among fifth-grade students in Pancasila Education classes at Sungai Lung Public Elementary School. The study aimed to describe the implementation of the educational game “HAKASI” (Pancasila Treasure Hunt) and to examine its effectiveness in enhancing students’ learning motivation through Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. The research involved 17 fifth-grade students, while the instruments consisted of observation sheets and a learning motivation questionnaire developed based on Hamzah B. Uno’s indicators. The findings revealed that the implementation of the HAKASI game through collaborative activities and Pancasila-based problem-solving tasks significantly improved students’ enthusiasm, cooperation, critical thinking, and active participation in learning. The average learning motivation score increased from 39 in Cycle I (high category) to 45.88 in Cycle II (very high category). All students also achieved scores above the minimum passing grade (KKM) of 75 in Pancasila Education. These findings indicate that the HAKASI game serves as an effective and innovative game-based learning strategy to strengthen students’ motivation and facilitate a contextual understanding of Pancasila values in elementary education.

Abstract

This study examines Restorasi Indonesia as a political vision articulated through the political communication strategy of Surya Paloh in the digital era, in response to the increasing mediatization of political discourse within Indonesia’s contemporary democratic landscape. The research addresses how the vision of national restoration is constructed, disseminated, and transformed through digital political communication practices to influence public perception and political engagement. Employing a qualitative approach, this study utilizes discourse analysis to investigate Surya Paloh’s communication strategies across digital platforms, including speeches, social media narratives, and mediated political messaging. The findings indicate that the articulation of Restorasi Indonesia operates not merely as an ideological construct but as a communicative framework that adapts to the dynamics of digital media through symbolic narratives, strategic framing, and audience-oriented messaging. This transformation reflects a shift from conventional political mobilization toward digitally mediated persuasion, enabling the political vision to maintain relevance in a rapidly evolving information ecosystem. The study argues that the effectiveness of Restorasi Indonesia as a political vision is closely linked to its communicative adaptability, where strategic digital engagement becomes central to shaping political legitimacy and sustaining ideological resonance in the public sphere.

Abstract

Mosques have long played a strategic role in shaping Muslim character through Islamic Religious Education (IRE). In many rural contexts, however, including Sukadono Village, Deli Serdang Regency, the educational function of mosques has gradually declined and become less responsive to community needs. This study addresses this gap by examining the current condition of mosque-based IRE in Sukadono, identifying the structural and socio-cultural constraints that hinder its implementation, and formulating revitalization strategies grounded in local needs and community participation. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings reveal that limitations in human resources, program sustainability, and community engagement significantly affect the effectiveness of mosque-based education. This study argues that participatory, context-sensitive revitalization strategies can restore the mosque’s educational role and strengthen its relevance in rural settings. The novelty of this research lies in its participatory focus on rural mosques, offering a sustainable model for community-based Islamic education development.

Abstract

Film, as a medium of mass communication, not only provides entertainment but also represents social phenomena, including the transformation of meaning in the era of social media virality. Viral circulation often detaches information from its original context, allowing meanings to be reconstructed through framing, selective dissemination, and public interpretation. This study examines how shifts in meaning caused by virality are represented in Wregas Bhanuteja’s Budi Pekerti and explores the ideological implications embedded in the process. Using a qualitative approach and Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework, the study analyzes seven selected scenes through the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth. Data were collected from dialogues, character expressions, visual symbols, and narrative situations related to social media virality. The findings reveal that virality functions not merely as a mechanism for information dissemination but as a process of symbolic reconstruction that transforms partial representations into socially accepted “truths.” At the mythological level, the film naturalizes the belief that visibility and repetition in digital media are indicators of credibility, regardless of contextual accuracy. The study’s novelty lies in demonstrating how virality operates as a semiotic mechanism that produces and legitimizes new meanings, thereby shaping public perception, social judgment, and digital reality in contemporary society.

Abstract

This study examines the role of UPTD PPA Banda Aceh in providing legal assistance to victims of sexual violence and analyses it through the perspective of Maqasid Syariah. The research is grounded in the increasing number of sexual violence cases in 2024 recorded by the Aceh Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Office (DP3A), totalling 1,227 cases, comprising 571 cases involving women and 656 cases involving children. The study addresses how legal assistance is implemented and to what extent it aligns with the objectives of Islamic law. This research employs an empirical legal research design with a qualitative approach, based on field data collected from personnel directly involved in assisting at UPTD PPA Banda Aceh. The findings indicate that legal assistance primarily manifests as juridical support and educational guidance, complemented by medical and psychological services to facilitate the judicial process. UPTD PPA Banda Aceh is mandated to fulfil victims' rights during legal proceedings; however, not all rights can be realised due to law enforcement authorities' dismissals of cases under certain conditions. From the perspective of Maqasid Syariah, this role falls under the dharuriyyah, emphasising the protection of essential human interests, including hifdz al-din, hifdz an-nafs, hifdz al-‘aql, hifdz an-nasl, and hifdz al-mal. The study contributes to strengthening the integration of victim protection within the framework of Islamic legal objectives in contemporary legal practice.

Abstract

Indonesia is widely recognized as a multicultural society in which religious and cultural diversity shapes everyday social relations. Medan City, a major urban center in North Sumatra, provides a concrete context for examining how diversity is nurtured and maintained through local cultural practices. This article analyzes the construction of relations between religion and local culture in Medan, focusing on how these relations contribute to social harmony in a plural urban setting. The study employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical method based on literature review, policy documents, and relevant previous studies. The findings indicate that religious diversity—encompassing Islam, Protestantism, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism—intersects with ethnic plurality in daily social practices such as communal celebrations, traditional rituals, and economic cooperation. These interactions demonstrate that local culture functions as a practical mechanism for fostering tolerance, mutual respect, national commitment, and non-violence. Despite ongoing challenges related to identity politics and disputes over houses of worship, the article argues that local cultural practices play a mediating role in sustaining interreligious harmony. This study contributes to urban pluralism scholarship by emphasizing diversity as a lived and negotiated process rooted in local cultural dynamics.
